3 Nurture & Evangelism submitted by Roxanna Maddox Caroling & Church Party We will meet at the parking lot Sunday afternoon, Dec. 10 and leave promptly at 4:00 pm to go caroling at Greystone and the Jacksboro Nursing Center. For those not wanting to go caroling with us, we will convene at the Jerry Mower residence (Barn) at 5:00 pm so meet us there please. Men & Women s Small Group Wednesday, Dec. 13, Graceists will be meeting jointly with the Men and Meat at the Maddox Home at 6 PM for a Christmas party. Please bring a $5 gift item for a Chinese Xmas. Also bring your favorite finger food to the party.

4 Worship_ Submitted by Lanna Moxley As we begin the beautiful season of Advent we are hopeful that you will join us as we anticipate the birth of our Lord and Savior. Each Sunday will begin with the lighting of an Advent candle by one of the families in our congregation. The message for each Sunday will include a highlight from a past Christmas movie. I promise you will enjoy this refreshing and thought-fillled meditation. We will be decorating the sanctuary on Saturday, December 2 at 10 a.m. Due to construction we will only decorate the sanctuary. If you are available, please join us for this special Hanging of the Greens. December 10 is the Caroling event. Please join us as we sing for the Jacksboro Nursing Home and Greystone plus some special people from The Parish. Following the singing we will gather at Jerry and Tina Mower's barn for food, fellowship, and a visit from a Christmas VIP! During this time of Advent may we take time to offer a daily prayer for peace and goodwill for all. Remember gathering around a piano and having a sing-a-long? We will be doing that on Sunday, Dec 10th as we gather to worship. White Christmas will be the song. First quick run through will be following the service on Sunday Dec. 3rd. Come join us!

5 Special Christmas Offerings _ Dec. 10th & 17th Celebrate the triumph of Good over Evil The BHYLF is a wonderful way to celebrate Epiphany and ring in the New Year. Beautiful music, costumes and pageantry make the festival a unique experience you don t want to miss! The Parish has already purchased 12 tickets for Sunday, January 7th at 3pm. Please call the church office to reserve your ticket!

6 December 10th: Caroling at 4 pm December 17th: End of year celebration at regular youth time No youth meeting on Christmas eve or New Years We're winding down for the semester with a couple of extra fun events! Keep up with our calendar on twitter and Facebook for more details. We are excited for the break and for all the events next semester! Our annual LORD S ACRE AUCTION was a record success this year! Over $41,000 was raised for local organizations in our community as well as aiding to furnish our newly built Youth Center. Nov. 5th A huge THANK YOU goes to Dianna Stockdale for the time and effort she spent putting the event together, as well as every one of you that contributed your time, items, and finances. We are incredibly excited to utilize these funds to do amazing things in our community. More info about a Disbursement Reception will be available in the Spring.

7 MDO Xtreme MDO s curriculum in November was focused on Farm Life, Harvest Time, and Being Thankful. Several of our classes planted wheat, sweet potatoes, and lima beans during Harvest Time. The children loved getting to water their plants and enjoyed watching them sprout! During Farm Life week, we had our own petting zoo, complete with chickens, goats, rabbits, and a miniature pony! This has become an annual activity and the children love it so much! We even got to watch Mrs. Jayme and Mrs. Jauna chase a rogue chicken that escaped in the front yard! :) The children spent Thankful week expressing what being thankful means and who they are most thankful for in their lives. During December, our focus is on Jesus birthday and how we show love to others. Our older classes will visit Greystone to make Christmas crafts with the grandmas and grandpas and all classes will have parties and a book exchange! On December 7th we will have a float in the City s Christmas Parade, so be watching for us!

9 If you are weary of over-the-top consumerism and crowded shopping malls and angry drivers waiting to get in the crowded shopping malls, you are not alone. More and more studies are citing that at least 50% of American adults find Christmas-related Consumerism bothersome. This year, at The Parish, we cannot simply continue in the same vein we have in years past. Some of that is volunteerism, lack of appeal or too-many-things-already-on-the-calendar. But the main reason is that our building is under construction. The Parish Council spent time considering how we can still celebrate the birth of our Savior and be intentional about our activities and gatherings. To that end, we are stepping back, and hopefully making things simpler in the process this Advent/ Christmas season with our series A Classic Christmas. Our grandparents didn t max out their credit cards or shop til they dropped. My question to you this season: WHAT REALLY MATTERS TO YOU THIS CHRISTMASTIME? Is it leaving behind distractions? Is it deepening your spiritual journey? Is it re-connecting to church and other friends/loved ones? During the holidays, we have many opportunities to focus more on family, faith and community and that s what The Parish will be doing this season. I m so excited! So I m asking you to engage in the practice of watching some classic Christmas movies. I know many of these are up for debate as more and more movies keep coming. But each week will use lessons from some classic movies to help us journey towards Christmas. I hope you will grab your friends or family, some popcorn. Turn off your social media and cell phones. Find some downtime. Most of these are available via streaming or you can find them on various channels this season. I ve listed them in order of how we will use them in worship.
