Announcements for February 17, 2019 WELCOME Welcome to all our visitors, friends and members. If you are visiting for the first time, please sign our guest book in the Narthex. Please join us downstairs in the Social Room for a time of Fellowship and Coffee after the 8:45 a.m. and a.m. worship services. Large Print Worship Bulletins and Bibles are available for people with special vision needs. Please speak to an Usher for the use of one of these Bibles and a copy of the Bulletin. Children s Bulletins are available. Children of all ages are invited to remain in church with their parents. If it becomes necessary to leave during the worship service, please use the door at the rear of the sanctuary. And please, as best as you are able, try to step out during hymns or other active times, so as to respect the worship experience of your neighbors. Thank you. Happenings TELOS Friendly's Fun Day Vernon, CT Thursday, March 21 st All Day = snacks, breakfast, lunch, dinner, ice cream; eat-in/take-out TELOSians on hand 5 pm 8 pm TELOSians receive a percentage of your purchase to put towards their mission trip. Please remember to bring your coupon and present it to your hostess when placing your order. Electronic views will not be accepted. Paper coupons will be available in the March Caller and in the bulletins closer to the March 21 st event. Thank you! TELOS Can & Bottle Redemption Drive Year Round! Thank you to everyone that has been supporting this TELOS project over the years we greatly appreciate the cans and bottles. PLEASE NOTE the indoor receptacle boxes have moved to the elevator alcove off the social room you may now sort by plastic, cans and glass. Quicker, easier and more room. Thank you for supporting our youths Mission work! Thank you for supporting the mission work of the ECC Senior High School students. All of the money they raise through the year goes toward their annual Missions trip. PLEASE remember when paying your offering by check to write your envelope/giving number on the memo line. 4 INCLEMENT WEATHER Policy A reminder that on Sunday mornings, church will occur as scheduled, except in extreme weather circumstances. The Sr. Pastor, Music Director and Deacon Chair all consult to determine the best outcome for everyone s safety. Notification for Sunday and all other closings are posted by visiting or viewing the WFSB Channel 3 (Connecticut) bottom screen streamer. The Church Office/Staff follows the Ellington Public School Closings and Delays schedule. Fragrance Sensitivity - For many people being exposed to perfumes, colognes and chemicals can pose a serious health risk. Please be considerate of your neighbor and think before you apply. Thank you! PRAYER CONCERNS - During Sharing Joys and Concerns, please clearly PRINT a Prayer Request Form that can be found in the pew rack. When the Deacon on Duty comes around with the microphone you are encouraged to state your prayer concern aloud. Give the completed form to the Deacon or drop it in one of the Prayer Concerns Baskets at the front or back of the church as you exit and this will be used to provide information to the church secretary for our Prayer List. NAME TAGS: Please assist with wearing a name tag. Need a permanent one? Request forms are in the Narthex. Wearing a name tag is greatly appreciated! 5 The Friendship Class meets at 1:00 pm in Room 201 the first Tuesday of each month Sept. June. On March 5 th the Friendship Class will begin a 4-month Bible Study on the Book of Galatians. Good literature is conflict driven. Last fall each novel we discussed had a conflict. Should Bible study be allowed on school property? If you come to terms that you are mortal will that affect your end of life decisions? Read Galatians chapters one and two and come to Friendship Class on March 5 at 1PM to discuss Paul's angry letter. His message is man is saved by the grace of God thru faith. That simple. The new followers had hundreds and hundreds of old laws to obey to gain salvation. Conflict. What do you believe? How is your faith? This letter has much to say to us today. We will examine our own ideas and beliefs of what is required for salvation. Virginia Dzen will facilitate. Sign-up to get the ECC CALLER on-line! It s easy! 6 A New Adult Study: Making Sense of the Bible Dr. Jay will be leading an adult study class called Making Sense of the Bible. This class is going to consider an over view of the Bible and questions such as: Who wrote the Bible? What do we mean by scripture being inspired by God? Is the Bible without error? How do we deal with contradictions in the Bible? How does God speak through the Bible? What do we do about the violence of God in the Bible? Did Jesus really say that? How should we read and interpret the Bible? Based on a book by Adam Hamilton, Making Sense of the Bible: Rediscovering the Power of Scripture for Today, and using a video each session, Dr. Jay will lead participants to evaluate what they believe about the Bible and why. His hope is that each of us will come to appreciate anew the spiritual teaching of the scriptures and find a deeper interest in studying, praying about and living its teachings. Each week the same session will be held on Monday evenings at 7pm and on Wednesday mornings at 10am. Purchase of the Hamilton book (on your own) is encouraged but not required.
