1 From Randy... Something a little different in August we will not be having our usual revival services this month. Instead, we will have the opportunity to come together and worship on nights in August. This is how it works: Sunday, August 5 Homecoming pulpit speaker will be The Pope From Pope s Creek.) You also know him as Rev. Richard Headley, former Pastor at Shiloh and now Pastor at Pope s Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his preaching, we will have a spirited service of worship followed by a delicious lunch in the Family Life Center. To ensure that people are aware of our Homecoming, our office will be sending out invitation post cards to everyone whose address is listed in the church directory. Then on s in August we will be having worship services with special music from outside groups and speakers from our youth, who went on mission trips, and adults in our church. services on August 8,15 and 22 will be as follows: 6:15pm Free supper 7-8 pm Music and Speakers (Note: A listing of music groups and speakers is listed below) Justified is a singing group of 5 from King George, led by Gordon McDonald. They play and sing older gospel songs and Southern Gospel music. Front Porch Gospel is led by Mike Dickey and resides in the Ruther Glen area of Caroline. They sing and pick Southern Gospel and Bluegrass songs. Sonrise is a group of 4 who recently were in concert with the Larry Stephenson band. This is a group of 4 who sing traditional and progressive blue grass. I hope you will come out and be supportive of our mid-week worship opportunities on s in August. You have heard her voice when she answers the phone Hello this is Sherri after some prayerful consideration Sherri will be taking a full time position at Ferry Farm Baptist Church in August. Her last day as Shiloh s secretary and as my right hand man is August 9. Like you, I will miss her but also wish her the best in her new role as Office Administrator. Personnel will be seeking both interim help for the office as well as a replacement for the secretary position. If you are interested in either, please let Kerry Childers know. 2 Star Quest: Search for the Stolen Scriptures by Joe Parker W hat do you get in 5 days when you combine 41 super, energetic, and talented children with 7 youth helpers, 5 adult helpers, 6 costume designers/seamstresses, 7 firstclass musicians, a cadre of 15 talented support personnel, a Director of Music named Barbara Perry, Children s Minister Rebecca Goff, Youth Ministers Cathy Lyon and Stephen Hagewood, plus one proud pastor? You get one of the best musicals Shiloh has ever witnessed in recent times. You also get a packed full house of proud parents, an amazed group of guests and folks who simply enjoyed an incredible fastmoving, out-of-this-world talented presentation that serves to ensure God s Word remains available to people throughout this world and beyond. Once you have witnessed this production, you have to step back and ask: How in the world can they achieve such a stunning production in that short timeframe? The answer lies in the fact that we have some fantastic talented children, some very dedicated church members, very talented helpers, an awesome Minister of Music, and a true God who loves to see His people do good works for Him. The plot of this story evolved around a power-hungry ruler obsessed with erasing all the scriptures stored in his database. However, the crew of J-316 lands on a planet very much like ours that has employed the old practice of Bible memorization coupled with the actual Word of God hidden in their hearts. Thankfully, a number of the inhabitants agree to go onboard their starship and assist in the restoration of their lost scriptures. They had a stellar cast of characters. Captain Holy Grammar did a great job of keeping the starship on course. There evidently was a speaking part for every child in the cast. The amazing aspect of this production was practically every single one of the children knew their part in its entirety with hardly a glance toward the wording projected on the screen in the rear of the Family Life Center. They not only knew their parts but projected their parts as seasoned actresses and actors. Everyone of them captured your full attention when it came their time to speak or act out their part. There was one little character by the name of Boogie who could not be overlooked. With his multi-shaded wig of pink, blue, red, and green, along with several glittering musical devices and a cowbell (I believe) attached to his belt, he stole the stage for a brief portion of time with his outstanding dance routine. Of course there was that rambunctious rap group that showed up on the right side of the stage, complete with dark sunglasses, and one slightly older teenager who was adding a little base known by all as Dr. Phil, only to be followed by a high-spirited rocker. No rock concert is complete without breaking the neck off the guitar and that happened, too. The backdrop encompassed several colorful galaxies; the center stage consisted of the starship J-316, and some very real-looking control consoles. Thanks to our talented technical folks, the audio, lighting, and overhead-simulated, computer-generated star illumination invoked the elusion of actual space travel. If you didn t have an opportunity to attend this production firsthand, you really need to have it on your calendar for next year s music camp production. I have no idea how each year is better than the one before; but somehow, it appears they simply excel beyond the bar that was previously set.

3 Youth Group By Cathy Lyon & Stephen Hagewood July was a busy month for our youth with VBS, youth summer camp, and 7 of Shiloh s youth serving on missions around the globe! August is back-to-school month, and we ll be celebrating with a Back-to-School Picnic Party on Sunday, August 12 th, immediately following the service. All rising 6 th graders are welcome and encouraged to participate! It will be at Scott Mason s house, and we ll transport the youth in vans, so youth should bring a change of clothes and lawn chair with them to church that morning. Parents should plan to pick them up at Scott s house at 3pm. night activities will resume on Sept. 5 th, and Sunday afternoon activities will resume on Sept. 9th. Before we know it, we ll be getting ready for the Youth Fall Camping Trip at Westmoreland State Park planned for October 5 th 7 th. Music News By Barbara Perry What a great summer we have had so far! So many people, new and returning faces and lots and lots of music! August will be a month of reviving our hearts and new beginnings so why not come out and get involved! night choirs will begin again in September and we are always looking for new singers and helpers. Let me know if you want to get more involved! Children s Ministry By Rebecca Goff First of all, I would like to send a big Thank you to all of those who have been praying for my brother and family. God has heard those prayers and truly given us strength. I also want to thank those that filled the gap during Vacation Bible School to allow me to be with my brother during his surgery which are too many to name here but especially Barbara Perry, Stephen Hagewood and Kerry Childers. Music Camp was a blast and I am thankful to be a part of that ministry! All night programs will start back up on September 5th with Music and Missions/Bible study for the children in grades Pre-K through 5. Another fun year of AWANA will also be starting in September. Please watch the bulletin for times and dates. Sunday School By Gail Davis September starts a new Sunday School year. What s the point of Sunday School, you ask? Other than the obvious studying of scripture, Sunday School is a meeting place for like minded seekers of the gospel, it s fellowship, it s family time, it s sharing of concerns and ideas, it s learning how to reach out to share Jesus with a struggling world. Shiloh is fortunate to have great teachers and leaders that make it possible to have a variety of classes for differing age groups and styles. There are children and youth classes for nursery through high school, post-high and college -age class, coed and non-coed adult classes in Exploring the Bible and MasterWork (topical) studies. In other words, there is a place for you and your family at Shiloh. We look forward to new faces and families in the coming Sunday School year. Church Resource Center By Diana Moore SUMMER READING CLUB It's not too late to sign up. The form is on the bulletin board in the hallway outside of the library. Books can be checked out before or after Sunday service. Everyone who participates can attend the end of summer party and the top reader in each age group wins a prize.
