2 Knights Reporter Membership Report Joining a common cause February has been a slow month but March plans to be a busy one. On February 20, Patrick Kearney is scheduled to take his 2nd Degree at Patapsco Council. March begins the membership weekends, St. Thomas More on March 15 and 16, St. Ursula on March 29 and 30, and St. Isaac Jogues on April 26 and 27. We will also do a membership drive at St. Clare's spring carnival, on May 14, 15, 16, and 17 at their liquor stand. Your help will be very appreciated on these dates. There is also a 3rd Degree scheduled on March 21 at Fr. Leo Abendschoen Council in Rosedale. I hope to have some men for this date. I have also been asked to run the liquor wheel at St. Clare on March 1 for their horse race nite. Again if you can help me it will be very appreciated. Remember membership is 365 days a year. Thank you for your support and always remember to carry a form 100 or the information card form 921A with you. Michael Mank, P.G.K. Membership Director Church Activities My Brother Knight s and Ladies, flyer for details. needs your parish has. Gather together as God s Children Happy New Year Everyone. See the dates below. Please continue to pray for our Priests, Deacons and those in Religious Life. We need to pray for all of our Priests because without them there is no Eucharist. Please let me know of any special Remember Ash Wednesday is March 5, Peace be with you. Fraternally, Robert J. Gilson, PGK Holy Hours at St. Ursula 7:00 pm March 2, 2014 April 6, 2014 May 4, 2014 (Continued on page 4) Culture of Life Activities Page 2 I am afraid that our culture of life is increasingly under attack by federal programs. You know that the affordable care act (generally known as ACA, and lovingly known as Obama care" demands (the fancy word is mandates ) that taxpayers, employers and individuals, must pay for abortions abortion causing drugs, etc. as part of the healthcare provisions of the law. This is contrary to our culture of life. The Catholic Church is presently challenging this portion of the ACA and the question is expected to end up in the Supreme Court for a decision. And, possibly you do not know that the universities and their students are being denied federal education grants if they do not foster diversity by promoting programs which promote homosexuality, lesbianism, etc. And at the same time the colleges are, in several cases in Catholic and Christian (Continued on page 4)

3 Community Activities We visited the assisted living homes for Valentine s Day and had a wonderful time talking to the residents. They are very nice people and are really appreciative of our efforts to remember them on special occasions. Our next visit will be around Easter time. I am afraid that this is only the beginning of attacks upon our Judeo-Christian religions. Take note of what is happening and follow your conscience and pray for our pope and our leaders so that truth will prevail. Bateman - Fraternal Benefits Advisor Fraternal Benefits Retirement Planning Planning on retiring within the next 10 years? If so there are some things you should have on your to do list to make sure you can enter into retirement with all your bases covered. Most people focus solely on the amount of their nest egg and the retirement income streams they will have. Of course those 2 items are paramount but not taking care of these other items can ruin anyone s retirement in short order. 1. Make sure you have adequate life insurance on you and your spouse. You should have enough to payoff all debts, funeral expenses and provide a lump sum that can generate an income stream to replace any lost income caused by the death of a spouse. 2. Make sure both spouses have long term care insurance. Not having long term care insurance means you are willing and able to shoulder that risk with your own money and income streams. You may think the premiums are expensive but if you get into a situation where you need to pay for long term care expenses out of pocket you will terrible regret not have an LTC policy. 3. Make your nest egg safe. I understand that inflation can eat into a nest egg but failure to protect your retirement money means you are risking it all just to get a few extra points of return. If the market drops and takes years to recover what difference does inflation make anymore you are in a loss situation that will threaten your ability to stay retired. Call me I am your Council s Benefits Advisor and I do this type of planning. Page 5
