"No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends." Christians are no strangers to sacrifice. Jesus lays down his life for our redemption, martyrs remain faithful to the end, and every believer faces "deaths" in the spiritual life when love requires a re-ordering of preference and priority. On Memorial Day, we honor those who laid down their lives for their nation and for the values we espouse - freedom, justice, and a better world for our children. In a day that often fills with barbeques and boat launches, remember to take some time in prayer! Intercede for those who have died and for the loved ones they left behind, and pray for peace on earth. Dear Lord, on this day, we remember those who have served us by protecting our freedoms. When we celebrate our long weekend with our friends and family, help us remember, that our freedom to speak of you, and our freedom to worship you, and our freedom to do that which we ought to do, have all been bought at the price and sacrifice of many lives. Your Son died for our eternal life in heaven. So too, your children died protecting us here on earth. Help us be mindful this weekend and always of the sacrifices made by those in uniform for all our freedoms. Amen. Fr. Jason EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Mary Queen of Heaven is seeking a Director of Parish Faith Formation. A N F. J This position will direct the religious education program. Good communication and interpersonal skills are important, as well as the ability to work collaboratively. Candidates must have zeal for the mission of the Church to evangelize and a vision for encouraging participation in the life of the Church. A degree in theology or a related field is preferred. Experience in catechetical (or other parish) leadership is required. Some night and weekend availability is needed. This position is part-time but could be offered as full time for a candidate with experience in evangelization, liturgy, and/or parish development. The position is available on July 1st. They have played several times this year. They will play on June 3rd at the 8:30am Mass. They are looking for another guitar, mandolin, woodwinds, strings, and small percussion. Please contact Joe Gornick at CCW DUES Annual dues ($5.00) for the Council of Catholic Women will be collected during the month of June. The CCW sponsors many events throughout the year including the Senior Citizen Christmas Dinner, Vino Van Gogh, the Grace Café, the Mother s Day Carnation Remembrance, and the Spring Plant Sale. All women in the parish are considered members of the Council of Catholic Women. The yellow CCW envelope can be placed in the collection basket anytime in June. If you would like to be informed of upcoming CCW events, please include your address on the outside of the envelope. Those who are enrolled in Parish Pay can drop any kind of envelope marked CCW Dues and your if you wish, in the collection basket throughout the month of June. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CLOTHING DRIVE - SATURDAY, JUNE 2nd AND SUNDAY JUNE 3rd The St. Vincent DePaul Truck will be in our parking lot from 9:00am Saturday, June 2 to 1:00pm on Sunday, June 3. We are looking for clothing, especially children s, shoes, linens, books, small houseware items and electronics, such as dishes, glassware, utensils, toaster, blenders, coffee makers, radios, CD players, etc. SORRY, WE CANNOT ACCEPT ANY TYPE OF BABY EQUIPMENT OR TELEVISIONS. For furniture and large item donations, please call to schedule a home pick-up by a St. Vincent DePaul Truck at a later date. Car donations are always needed. If you have a car to donate, please call this number to make arrangements for pick-up of your automobile. Your donations go to the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Shops where much of your donations are given away free to needy families. Some are sold at reasonable prices in the Thrift Shops so that needy families can shop with dignity. Proceeds from the Thrift Shops go into a general assistance fund to help Church Conferences help families with rent, mortgages, utilities, medicine & doctor bills. Invite your families and friends to join you in a delightful evening of conversation and the promise of delicious food. This event is especially planned to honor our Parish Woman of the Year, Ellen Walker. Each attendee will have a choice of Beef London Broil, Chicken Breast or Fish. The mystery of the Holy Trinity is introduced to our children when they are young. Teaching them the Sign of the Cross is one of the first things Catholic children learn. As the children grow, we unpack the Trinity as 1 God in 3 Persons. It is a mystery, so it cannot ever be totally understood or explained. Yet, we have that holy longing to know this God who is so big and loves us so much. Today when you make the Sign of the Cross, make it intentionally. Take time to sign yourself with the Cross calling to mind the Father and Creator of the Universe, and the Son, Jesus, our Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier who makes us holy.
