2 HOMECOMING CELEBRATION 2015 It is a pleasure to have you celebrate our Annual Homecoming Day with us. We are delighted to have former members and friends join with us for this grand occasion. As you may have heard or read, our theme for this year is Growing Together in Love. We feel the love you have for us and we are reciprocating, for that is the command of Christ Jesus. We are delighted to have two of our former members return to preach for our Homecoming and Revival Services this year. Reverend Dr. Coralyn Pinkney will preach for Homecoming and Reverend Lolita Hickman will preach for the three nights of Revival. We are anticipating wonderful, spirit-filled services. We hope that you are able to be with us for both services. How are things going in your life? Are you being abundantly blessed by our Heavenly Father? I trust that everything is going well for you and your love ones. This is a wonderful time of the year to be joining with family and friends. As we celebrate Homecoming, we hope that you will not only enjoy the spiritual food, but we want you to enjoy the physical food as well. We have prepared a delicious meal. Come and enjoy it with us. There is plenty of home cooked food, prepared with lots of love. Our Homecoming Committee has put forth extra effort to ensure that there is sufficient food for everyone. Again, it is so good to see each of you. Let us continue to grow together in the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Yours in Christ, Leon Grant, Pastor 2

Prior to that appointment, she served as Executive Assistant to the President of the Seminary, and as Associate Director for the Churches Center for Theology and Public Policy. Rev. 8 Responsive Reading Growing Together In Love Homecoming Litany Leader: God of love, God of unity, God of peace, You established a firm foundation in this church called Mount Calvary. Today, we celebrate Homecoming. Some rejoice for their historical journey with this branch of Zion. Others rejoice for their new journey here, where all are welcome in this family of Christ. How great is our God! Congregation: As a church family, we are one in the Spirit. We are united by God s love. We are growing together in love. We have strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow. Great is Thy faithfulness! Leader: Today, we give thanks and praise to God for songs of Zion that are steeped in our tradition, inspired by our experiences, satisfying to our souls and that unite our voices as one. Lord, You are worthy to be praised! Congregation: Beneath and above the shifting sands of time, Omnipotent God, You are with us and You do not change. You brought us this far by faith, and by faith, You will lead us on. Leader: As we remember the tie that binds our hearts and our community together in Christian love, let us remember the richness of our heritage, the reassurance of our future, and rejoice because today is a gift from God. Congregation: Whether we are from near or far, we give thanks for Homecoming, for precious memories, and for this time to be reunited with family and friends. All: God, You are our solid rock and our strength. As we stand celebrating Mount Calvary s legacy of love, heritage of hope, and traditions of truth, keep us on a firm foundation of faith and forever in Your path we pray. Amen. 8

11 Announcements September 14-September 20, 2015 MONTHLY FOCUS Community Outreach "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16, NIV. Community outreach is required to receive Blessings. Regardless of what stage you are in your spiritual growth, there will be times when you need assistance. Needed assistance may be in the form of health, monetary, spiritual, or otherwise. Members of Mt Calvary, as baptized believers, have a spiritual obligation to reach out and assist in our community. By reaching out to the needs of the community, it pleases God. God will bless us abundantly and strengthen our relationship with Him, while lightening the burdens of the needy as they learn to lean on him. A Moment in Black History September 12, Dr. Mae C. Jemison becomes first African American woman to travel in space. September 13, Literary critic, Alain Locke, first African American Rhodes Scholar, is born. 12 Celebration of Giving Litany MINISTER: It is now time for us to share in giving. Why do we give? CONGREGATION: We give because all we have comes from God. According to Deuteronomy 8:18, it is God who gives us the power to get wealth. MINISTER: Why do we give? CONGREGATION: We give because God commands us. Malachi 3:10 states that we are to bring the full tithe into God s storehouse. MINISTER: Why do we give? CONGREGATION: We give because God said in Luke 6:38, to give and He would give back to us a more abundant blessing. MINISTER: Why do we give? CONGREGATION: We give because 2 Corinthians 9:7 states that God loves a cheerful giver. ALL: Thank you Lord, for the privilege of giving. We are excited about paying the tithe and giving the offering. We know that you are faithful to your promises. Therefore, we trust you in faith to do what you have said. AMEN! 12

23 FROM THE EVANGELISM MINISTRY Returning Witness It is always fitting to commemorate the places where we have been spiritually led and nourished. We remember with gratitude how God has kept us since the last Homecoming, and we welcome and rejoice together with all those who return to this spiritual vineyard. With Revival traditionally following on the heels of Homecoming, we also await spiritual renewal with anticipation. In order that they would remember how the Lord had and would always be with them, certain annual observances were instituted and commemorated by the children of Israel and their generations. 'Sukkot' or the Feast of Tabernacles, the 7th of the required observances which commemorate God s 40-year provisions for the Israelites in the wilderness, is approaching ( ). The 2015 Feast of Tabernacles (Sept. 28 thru Oct. 4) will be marked by the 4th Blood Moon on Sunday evening, September 27, It will be possible to witness portions of this total lunar eclipse for a duration of 5 hours and 11 minutes (from 8:11 p.m. till 01:22 a.m. Sept. 28, EST), with peak viewing at 10:47 p.m. (www. Timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/Bethesda). This will complete the lunar tetrad or four full lunar eclipses in a row which occurred April 15, 2014 (Passover), October 8, 2014 (Feast of Tabernacles) and April 4, 2015 (Passover). Unique to this Jewish year s 7-day observance of Sukkot is its occurrence in the 70th Jubilee Year (every 50 years) since the Israelites entered the Promise Land ( ), which also coincides with the 40th Jubilee since Christ s Resurrection. This is a glaring reminder that a majority of God's chosen nation has yet to claim Jesus Christ as the prophecied Messiah. Bearing in mind that only God, the Father, knows when Christ will return to earth according to Matthew 24:36; numerous biblical researchers are declaring that prophecies according to Daniel, Joel, Revelation, and other prophets are now clearly being fulfilled. Pray that all Jews as well as all non-believers will come into the saving knowledge that Jesus has come to offer them lasting redemption. The Evangelism Ministry meetings are open to all. Our next meeting will be held Thursday, September 24, 2015, 7:00 p.m. in Room 207. Please browse through the Evangelism materials on the racks in the front lobby and rear lobby of the Leon Grant Family Life Center. Feel free, to take some for your use in sharing the Gospel. Please contact Deacon Mary for more information regarding this ministry.
