Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. 1. Nigeria Islamic extremists, who until recently have been concentrated in the northern parts of Nigeria, have been moving into and causing problems in the areas where the NCLC is located. Just recently four Catholic priests in the area were kidnapped and held for ransom. Three weeks ago Shia Islamic protests turned violent in the capital city of Abuja and resulted in the Nigerian Army opening fire on the protesters, killing several and wounding many others. Some have speculated that Boko Haram was also involved in these protests. In addition to all of this, local and national elections are scheduled for early 2019 with several Muslim candidates running for offices. Many fear that there will be an increase in violence if these Muslim candidates are not elected. Pray! 2. Nigeria Rejoice in the Lord s faithfulness in providing two men for the Gospel ministry of the NCLC. These men have successfully completed the five-year seminary course of the NCLC Luther Bible Institute and are scheduled to graduate and be ordained on December 15 th. Pray that the Lord will bless their ministry! 3. Nigeria There are six men who have applied to enter the NCLC Luther Bible Institute/Seminary in January. Their applications are being reviewed by the faculty. If all six of them are approved for enrollment, this will be one of the largest classes to begin the five-year seminary course. Pray that the Lord will bless the students and faculty in their work and that He will provide them all that is necessary to prepare themselves for the public ministry. 4. Nigeria Our brothers and sisters in Christ of the Nigeria-CLC are facing a variety of challenges as they work together to provide both spiritual and bodily care for orphaned children. The newly appointed NCLC Children s Home Committee is working to develop a set of guidelines and policies that will serve to provide much needed direction going forward. They will also be meeting with the Nigerian Ministry of Women and Children s Welfare to make sure the home meets government requirements. Please pray that the Lord will provide them the wisdom, compassion, and all that is needed to carry out this important work. 5. Togo Six men continue to attend the Mt. Horeb Lutheran Bible Institute as they also work fulltime jobs. They attend classes two days each week and do evangelism work on Sundays. Pray that the Lord will continue to bless their studies as they prepare to serve the Lord as faithful preachers and teachers of His saving word. 6. Togo Pray for the seven orphans that are being cared for by the pastors of the MELC in Togo and for the 40+ impoverished children who receive both spiritual and bodily nutrition one afternoon each week through support from the CLC Project Kinship. 10

3 Announcements Sunday school today God giving the Ten Commandments to Moses is today s Sunday school lesson. The children will learn that the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Talk about God s laws and how they guide us and show us our sin when we cannot keep them. Ask your children, Who kept the Law perfectly for us? Though we sin much, every day we have God s forgiveness because of Christ, His Son. Thank you! We thank the activity committee for organizing and providing refreshments for last week s seminar at Boerner Botanical Gardens. Who s on your prayer list? For whom do you pray and why? What do you ask on their behalf? We ll consider these aspects of prayer at our Wednesday Bible class. Everyone is welcome! Church decorating next Sunday The activity committee welcomes everyone who would like to join them in decorating the church and tree after second service. Sing to the Lord! Our caroling party/chili supper begins at 4 p.m. next Sunday, Dec. 2. Everyone is invited to join in singing the glorious news that God s Son was born into the world to save us from eternal death. A donation of $5 is suggested to cover the cost of materials and postage. J Immanuel Christmas Events: On Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 pm, there will be a piano/organ recital in the campus fieldhouse. The highlight of the music department will be the Christmas concert at Messiah Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on Friday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 pm. This will include the flute choir, band, mass choir, and tour choir. The choir portion of the event is considered a sacred worship service as the students sing the Christmas Gospel message. This is always a spiritually edifying concert to help one focus, even in the midst of the busy holiday season, on the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The concert ends the busy week of finals for the students as they conclude their first semester of the academic year. Classes resume on Jan. 7. Grant that Your Holy Spirit lead us in ways of peace as we await the resurrection of the body and the glory of life everlasting. Dayspring from on high be near; Daystar, in my heart appear. Prayer of the Church Pastor: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. (Minute of silence for individual prayer and meditation) P: For the Church, the gathering of God s forgiven people, that we remain steadfast in faith and good works as we await the day of the Lord s return, let us pray to the Lord. P: For our nation, our state, our local community, and our neighborhoods, that justice prevail in our courts and in all centers of government as we await the day of the final judgment, that we lead lives that are peaceful and secure, let us pray to the Lord. P: For those who bear the responsibilities of leadership in the church, that they find support and joy in their service, and that many young men and women would be led into the fulltime preaching and teaching ministries, let us pray to the Lord. Salutation and Collect of the Day P The Lord be with you. P Let us pray: Lord Jesus, You have promised that at the end of time You will appear in glory to gather Your people to You. Keep us firm and steadfast even in the face of hardships, challenges, and disappointments in this world that we never lose the hope in Christ that will sustain us until Your return as judge on the Last Day; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit are worshiped and glorified, now and eternally. P: For those with special need for our petitions in these times as the day of Christ s return draws ever closer, including the sick and hospitalized, the shut-ins, those facing challenges in employment or in other parts of their lives, and in particular for Dorothy Lillo, mother of Brian Lillo, who is seriously ill, that their needs be met according to God s gracious plan, let us pray to the Lord. P: For the proper use of the good gifts God has granted us, that we be thankful for all that we need to support our lives, that we be of blessing to our families, our neighbors, and our communities, let us pray to the Lord. 7 4

Distress to deliverance. II. Students to stars. We have already been raised from spiritual death to new life in Christ. On the Last Day our bodies will be raised to eternal life in heaven. P This is the Word of the Lord. Apostles Creed C I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 5 6
