Hymn 644 (red hymnal): Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow Announcements Sunday school begins today For the next few weeks the children will be studying the true-life story of Joseph. It begins today with the account of Joseph and his brothers. Though the brothers didn t know it, God would use their treachery to bring about His plan to deliver His people and ultimately to deliver us from sin and death through Jesus. A family discussion today might include: How can hatred and unkind thoughts lead to hateful words and actions? On the cross Jesus saved us from the hurt and harm of our own sins and the sins of others. Our teachers this year are: Pre-K and Kindergarten: Lydia Albrecht and Rebekah Busse. Grades 1-2: Sue Eichstadt and Emma Mueller. Grades 3-5: Nathan Rodebaugh. Grades 6-8: James Arndt. How can they teach that? The Bible tells us that God created the universe out of nothing by the power of His Word in six ordinary days. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made (Jn. 1:3). How then can some churches which claim to follow the Bible teach evolution? 4 Prayer: P: O Lord, let Your merciful ears be open to the prayers of Your humble servants, and grant that what they ask may be in accord with Your gracious will; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Hymn: O Son of God, in Galilee The Lord s Prayer: Epistle lesson: James 1:17-27.Let s not only count our blessings, but also thank the Giver by being doers of His Word. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures. So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. Gospel lesson: Mark 7:31-37.Jesus opens ears and mouths to hear and speak His Word. Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. 5 Prayer of the Church (Minute of silence for personal prayer and reflection) P: We come before our Lord in prayer, saying along with the psalmist, To You, O Lord, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me. O Lord, like those of whom the prophet Isaiah wrote, we often have anxious hearts. Give us Your Holy Spirit that we might be strong and not fear. May we hear and trust Your gracious invitation to cast all our anxieties on You because You care for us. To You, O Lord, I call; Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak. The Nicene Creed: I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. P: O Lord, through Your servant James, You admonish us to be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Through Your holy Word as we hear and study it today and read it at home throughout the week, give us the desire and strength to use our tongues to build others up, rather than tear them down. To You, O Lord, I call; P: O Lord, Your Son, Jesus Christ, cast out demons and gave hearing to the deaf. Grant that we trust in Your will today for healing and restoration of both body and soul. To You, O Lord, I call; P: O Lord, You have done all things well. You pronounced all things good at the creation of the world. Give us wisdom and resources to care for Your creation as faithful stewards, to provide for our own and our families earthly wellbeing, and to cheerfully offer our firstfruits for the work of Your kingdom. To You, O Lord, I call; And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by Whom all things were made; Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, Whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, Who spoke by the prophets.
