(John 15:5) There will be a resource available at our VBS training to encourage churches to give special attention in their worship services on May 19, 2013 to praying for Vacation Bible School. There are tremendous outreach and evangelism opportunities in VBS, and undergirding this ministry with prayer is important. I am grateful as I know all of you are for the great Associational VBS Team that we have. Please pray for them as they prepare to help all of us who will attend the VBS training at East Rogersville.

2 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is not just another church event or just another date on the church calendar. Vacation Bible School is a life changing opportunity for our churches, our children, their families and our communities. Vacation Bible School is an opportunity to make an eternal difference in the lives of our children, our family members, our friends and our neighbors. Vacation Bible School is an opportunity to tell others about Jesus. Think for a moment about the number 79,000.that number could represent your salary, your church yearly budget, the number of people in our town, the mileage on your car.but it does not represent any of these things. 79,000 represents the number of decisions that were reported to accept Christ in 2011 as a direct result of VBS. 79,000 individuals who were directly impacted by the gospel message presented in VBS. Approximately 10% of the children who attend VBS are unchurched and each of those children comes from families who are also unchurched. Could that 10% make a difference in your church growth? VBS is one of the most strategic outreach tools made available to your church. I encourage you to take advantage of the training opportunity made available to you for Vacation Bible School this year. Linda Chinery HVBA VBS Director Preschool Directors and Workers Have you ever watched preschoolers at a theme park? Their excitement is contagious! As they get out of the car and approach the entrance gate, their feet are dancing and jumping up and down. They can t wait to have fun! For some kids, the excitement continues as they approach their very first ride. Perhaps it is a carousel, a ferris wheel, or a kid-sized roller coaster. These kids are ready to get on and ride! For other kids, the excitement quickly fades as fear creeps in. The ride suddenly looks big and scary. These kids start to back away from the ride. Colossal Coaster World will help each child know that God helps me. I will not be afraid. Through Bible stories about Paul, Kids will hear that God is always with them and will provide the help they need. As we prepare for VBS Training, we are in prayer that you are preparing also. As always, we will have loads of giveaways! Jill and Linda Children s Directors and Workers Bible Study Crafts Missions Join the Younger and Middle Children s Bible Study team as we gather on April 13th to kick off each day s Bible Study. We ll look at the literature and learn how to customize it to your church s individual needs. We ll look at different ways to share our Colossal Coaster World with children in 1st and 2nd grades (younger children) and 3rd and 4th grades (middle children). We will also learn about crafts and missions for grades 1-4. Bring your best ideas to share and go home with new excitement and ideas. Be sure to jump-start this year s VBS at the Colossal Coaster World s Children s Workers Training on April 13th at East Rogersville. Elaine, Naomi and Margaret 2

3 Calling All VBX Teachers 5 6 Graders Come out to Colossal Coastal World where we are facing our fears and trusting God. We will be discussing the material, decorating ideas, and ways to get our preteens excited about VBS. We will challenge them to tap into God s promise to give them the courage to face their fears, by trusting Him fully in all situations! Let s go to the extreme for Jesus! Melissa Montgomery Youth VBS YES! There is VBS for Youth! I hope you are excited about sharing with older Youth in VBS at your church this summer. This year is one of the most exciting sessions since I ve been teaching VBS! The Youth theme is Thrill Seekers-Embrace the Unexpected. Please join in looking at the life of Paul and how it relates to our Youth today with roller coaster topics like: Sharp turns! Sudden Drops! Violent Shakes! Steep Climbs! And Barrel Rolls! Our Youth Certainly face an ever-changing and challenging life Just like Paul. The material has changed this year, themed with the other classes, and a new design that is very user-teacher friendly. I hope to see you at the training to share ideas and the material together. Come grab a seat and we ll experience an exciting VBS Training together! Roosevelt, once said that the only thing that we have to fear is fear itself. At a crisis time in our nation he knew that resources would arise that would see us through a challenging time so there was no real need to be afraid. You may think that this year as you serve as Director of your church s VBS using Lifeway s theme Colossal Coaster World that fear is overtaking you: I have never been a VBS Director before! I am late in my preparation for VBS so how will I ever get everything prepared! I m not sure I understand this year s VBS theme and what the purpose is. I have done this before but I still have this bit of uneasiness in my stomach about leading the VBS in my church. You know, kind of like when the roller coaster is getting ready to do a fast drop! Am I strapped in properly, and am I relaxed enough to endure the loop of VBS??? Kathie and I want you to know that the only thing you have to fear concerning this year s VBS is fear itself. (Sorry Mr. President) Come join us on Saturday morning, April 13, 9:00 am, at the East Rogersville Baptist Church, and we will show you that any fears you have about leading your church s VBS are really unfounded. There are a number of resources available to you to help you lead your VBS team to have a great VBS regardless of the size of your church. We will help you see that it is not too late to get prepared or even get better prepared to be your church s VBS Director. 4 Hey Pastors, How would you like to get your church better connected to your community, your community better connected to your church, and get your families all connected to your Sunday School? No one likes cold contacting and going door to door on visitation in hopes of finding a cold contact who may or may not come to your church. Come One! Come All! If you are a Snack Leader or Dinner Leader, you need to attend this class. Ideas will be given and demonstrated on how you can incorporate your snacks or dinners to reinforce this years VBS theme of Colossal Coaster World. You will learn how to decorate your snack/ dinner area and make it an exciting place to visit. We will discuss connecting to the children, praying for the children, and challenging them while filling their physical needs with fun food. Come join in and participate in hands-on preparation of Admission Tickets (made from graham crackers & Hershey s chocolate bars), Coaster Car Tracks, Carousel Poles, Fruity Towers, Popcorn Cupcakes, Disney s Teacups, and Colossal Coaster Cars (made with the all-famous Twinkies)! 5 VBS Materials Are Ready to View and Place Your Order! Are you finding it hard to think of VBS at this time of year! VBS time will be here soon! We will be getting our VBS materials this year from LIFEWAY STORE in Morristown, 130 Terrace Lane, Suite 3, (across from Mall, all on the east end of Morristown). We will be happy to get your materials for you just as we have done every year with no shipping cost. Just come by and view the materials and place your order or call and give me your order on the phone. If you want to help the association with our consignment, call the association office ASAP and order your VBS materials today. This will help us by letting us help you. If you are in the Surgoinsville Church Hill Mount Carmel area, we will be glad to get your materials for you. I know it would be closer for you to the Kingsport store but if you allow us to get the materials, Holston Valley will get the consignment which will greatly help our budget. Materials are NOW in the office for you to view! WOW! The materials are great and I get excited just looking over them. Colossal Coaster World OR Jungle Jaunt. You can have a first hand look at the material and all the goodies that come with it. VBS Open House will be on March 25th but you do not have to wait until then to see the materials and place your order. Just come by any day between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. (we are usually out for lunch between 11:30 1:00). Just give us a call if you are coming around lunch time. Sometimes we get out at 11:30 and other days it is later when we get to leave. Materials have to be ordered, so the earlier you get your material, the earlier you can begin studying, planning, gathering supplies for your class and praying over them every day until VBS. REMEMBER you do not need to wait until March 25 or April 13 to get your materials. I already have the materials for you to see. So come by and place your order NOW to get your materials before the clinic or give me a call and place your order on the phone! THE SOONER YOU ORDER THE BETTER! IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO GET THE MATERIALS HERE! JUNGLE JAUNT Psalm 145:1-2 River Guides, it is time to begin our expedition of adventure and discovery through the Amazon Rainforest. We will encounter cool caves, ride rough rapids, become entangled in jungle vines, see exotic birds and rest in jungle villages all while experiencing JUNGLE JAUNT - LifeWay style. Worship Rally Village, Bible Study Hut, Craft Cove, Recreation Rapids and Snack Shack will be among our many stops. River runners aka children, will discover how much God loves them; how much God cares for them; that God loves them so much that He sent His Son, Jesus; and that God wants them to love others. Our JUNGLE JAUNT adventure will offer ways for our kids to discover the One True God; challenge our kids to respond to Jesus as Lord and Savior and show them how to PRAISE HIM! TRUST HIM! FOLLOW HIM!
