1 VOLUME 9 ISSUE 9 MAY 2018 children s ministry June Brilla Soccer Camp: This is going to be a huge community event for the city of Byram! Brilla Soccer Camps focus on the technical and tactical aspects of the game as well as developing the character of each camper. The camp will provide them with the necessary components to be successful on and off the field. Brilla Soccer Camps are coached and staffed by highly skilled soccer coaches and players from Mississippi Brilla FC. Children ages 6-12 are invited to participate. The cost is $100 per child. Registration will open to our church members May 1 and to the public May 15. The first 30 children to register will receive a special prize pack! June Adventure Weekend: We are shaking up the way we typically do Vacation Bible School. This year we are packing all the fun and energy of a week long VBS into two days! VBS will be Friday evening (6-8:30pm), all day Saturday (9am-5pm), and Sunday morning (9am-12pm). My goal is to have every child bring an unchurched friend to VBS this year! Volunteer registration is now open! Check out the link on the Come to the Woods! Facebook page to register! Child registration will open to our church members May 1 and to the public May 15. Child registration will be open to children that have completed Kindergarten-6th grade. Church members will be allowed to register children ages 3 and 4. And VBS volunteers will be allowed to register children age 2 and under. Each child will pick two activity tracks when they register, so register early to guarantee your child gets the ones they want!

So grab your calendar & put these important events on your schedule: SPECIAL OFFERING FOR MISSION BYRAM BUILDING Sunday, June 3 continues to grow & expand & reach people for Christ, meaning that we desperately need a building to accommodate the ongoing growth of that ministry. So, on Sunday, June 3, we will take a special offering to help with the costs of that building. Talk to Mark Sandifer for more info about this project! CONQUER SERIES FOR MEN Starts Sunday, June 3, 9 AM There is a serious battle going on for the minds of Christian men, especially in the area of pornography & sexual purity! Because this is such a critical area, we will have a special study during Life Groups for the month of June for ALL THE YOUTH BOYS & ALL THE MEN OF CWBC!!! For 5 consecutive Sundays, we will meet in the gym at 9:00 AM for this video-based study called THE CONQUER SERIES. If you want to watch a trailer for this study, go to conquerseries.com. Then plan to be here for every session, & make sure your teenage sons & grandsons are here, too!!! MEN, THIS IS A LIFE-OR-DEATH ISSUE!!! 3 worship ministry team Celebrate...Come on! Laurie and I had a first time experience this weekend. We got to be a part of our first grandchild being baptized! Layni, our 8 year old granddaughter accepted the Lord in her living room a year ago with her parents helping lead her to the most important decision in her life. I am reminded of Psalm 78 where it talks about one generation leading the next generation and the importance of family and the legacy we leave. It is so vital for our community to see God centered parents walking Jesus out in their homes and in their children s lives. The Lord will use us to be His loving example to our world. So what will we leave behind? It all depends on the way we live out His love to each other as our family and community watches us. One generation will teach the next generation We will tell the next generation the praise worthy deeds of the Lord, His power and the wonders He has done so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born. Never forget they are watching.

4 discipleship and missions 8 Habits of Effective Small Group Leaders By Dave Earley I bought this book a few days ago because of it s title but once I began reading it I found so much more. The book lists 8 Habits of Highly Effective Leaders. The material is designed for Life Group Leaders but I think there is sound advice provided for anyone in a leadership position. The author, Dave Earley said that effective leaders Dream Big. He said having dreams increases potential for the leader. I know this to be true in my ministry. Earley states that leaders must pray for those they lead everyday! He added that leaders need to constantly invite others to their group. I love how so many of our leaders invite others to their group most every week. The author said effective leaders contact members often, plan and prepare effectively and Mentor and Apprentice future leaders. Earley concludes this little book by saying leaders need to promote fellowship and be committed to growth. These are great guides for our Life Group Leaders and we will be working through this book as a group over the next few months. Finally, please let your Life Group leader know you love them, pray for them and thank God for them. We at CWBC are truly blessed with a wonderful group of Life Group Leaders! 6 50 plus Well folks, I ended May with a trip home to visit family. My Uncle and Aunt came in from Maryland and stayed with Darlene and I at what was our parents home. This was significant for him in that the last time that he stayed there was 24 years ago when visiting with my dad. It was during this trip that my dad had a massive heart attack and passed away. I know that he was glad to have been with my dad at that time because they were close and my uncle was military with visits hard to come by. I believe there was healing, even all these years later for them. Darlene and I revisit that each time we enter the kitchen there. Slowly through the years, you can remember the good memories and make new ones instead of dwelling on the pain. Yet we never forget. It is coming upon the anniversary of the birth of our country, Independence Day. With this day, we also have many memories that run through our minds. It might be a personal memory for you or it can be memory of history lessons from school. It might be celebrations you have experienced with fireworks, food and family. My family usually spends a few minutes remembering Uncles who fought in the war and did not return. Also, we are a large family with many military members so we think of each of them. Marines, Air Force, Army, Guard, and Navy are our history and current members. In two weeks my cousin, Col. Andrea Miller retires from the Air Force yet this year we have two new members graduating the Air Force Academy. On July 1, 2018 at 4:00 pm, Country Woods Baptist Church will host God and Country Day. A day to remember those who fought so hard for our country to be free, those who are still fighting to keep our country free and most importantly, he who gave his life that we might all seek the ultimate in freedom, our relationship and freedom of our sins thanks to Jesus. Come join us and invite your neighbors. You will be hearing and seeing more on this throughout the church over the next couple of weeks. We will have food, games, flags, military vehicles, hoping to have some military representatives with a time to honor them and closing out with fireworks at 9:00 pm. Glad to be home, but sure am glad to have spent some down time with family. Love you bunches, Tammie
