1 Heartbeat INDIAN HILLS COMMUNITY CHURCH June 14, 2015 Lord s Supper Tonight The Passover Supper was very special to God s chosen people and although Jewish families had celebrated it together every year for nearly 15 centuries, they did not see it as a foreshadowing of what the Lord would one day come to earth to do. Instead, it reminded them of what God had already done, in leading them out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. When Jesus gathered with His disciples on the eve of His crucifixion, He wanted them (and us) to have a special way to remember Him. After Jesus asked God s blessing on the meal, He took the bread, broke it and gave it to the disciples, saying, Eat this bread, it is a symbol of my body given for you. Eat it in remembrance of Me. Tonight when we gather for the Lord s Supper we will do so in remembrance of our Lord. We remember His great love for us, His death on the cross for our sins, His resurrection from the grave and His promise to come back and take us to heaven. Picture Directory The picture directories have arrived and are labeled and ready for you to pick up in the south lobby, across from Sound Words. As you look through the directory, be sure to pray for one another. Thank you for making our directory a good representation of our church family. Flower Gardening Roxanne Nelsen and Jeanne Vallicott are working in the church flower gardens and they re calling for workers to join them on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. in the south parking lot. Come learn about flowers and how to care for them as you work. You ll enjoy the fresh air, exercise and fellowship while serving the Lord. In case of rain or other events at the church, call Roxanne ( ) or Jeanne ( ) to see if they plan to work that day. There are plenty of sidewalks, so bring the kids and their trikes, bikes, roller blades, and skate boards. They ll have loads of fun while you work in the garden. Heartbeat 3

2 Music & Arts Camp Music & Arts Camp begins tonight (June 14). Camp is for all children entering first eighth grade next school year and will be held from 6 7:30 p.m. every Sunday night. The final concert will be presented on Sunday evening, August 30. First third graders meet in the Family Center at 6 p.m. and finish in the choir room. Fourth eighth graders meet in the choir room at 6 p.m. and end in their elective room. Our desire is for the children to hide God s truth in their hearts as they learn the songs and have a Bible lesson. Then, by developing their God-given abilities in the arts, the children will find greater opportunities for worship and service in the church. Truth, music, worship, service! What a great way to spend Sunday evenings. 3 87 Year Old Man to Visit Music & Arts Camp Samuel Francis Smith to Speak Samuel Francis Smith (portrayed by Phil Boehr) will be speaking at Music & Arts Camp on Sunday, June 21 at 6 p.m. in the chapel. Children will gain insight from an 87-year-old man who wrote 150 hymns, but is best known for writing My Country Tis of Thee. Dr. Smith was born in Boston, Massachusetts in After completing his seminary studies, Smith went on to become one of the outstanding Baptist preachers of the nineteenth century. Later, as secretary of the Baptist Missionary Union, Smith visited many foreign mission fields. A gifted linguist, he was skilled in 15 languages, to which he attempted to add a sixteenth at the very end Samuel Francis Smith of his life. A year before his death at the age of eighty-six, he began the study of Russian. Samuel Francis Smith died in Evangelism Tools Stop tracts are available at the main entrances. 4 Family News Hospitalized. Neva Heidebrecht was a patient at Bryan West Hospital. She now resides at Sumner Place Nursing Home. Invitation. Everyone is invited to an open house in honor of Marge Caldwell s 80th birthday on Saturday, June 27 from 2 5 p.m. at Hy- Vee (84 & Holdrege Streets). Come to the second floor party room. Thank you for your prayers, for visiting Del in the hospital, for sending cards and for your encouraging words. Thank you to Pastor Eddie for your uplifting visit and thank you to my Dust and Pray girls for bringing food, praying with me, for staying overnight when I was alone and providing everything I needed. Missionary Prayer meets on Wednesday, June 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the Lending Library. All women are encouraged to join us as we pray for missionaries around the world. Branson Trip. Deposits are due July 1 for those planning on the November 3 6 trip. Please contact SueAnn at if you need more time. Sonshine Kids (4s & Ks) meet every Sunday evening at 6:30 in the SS Kids room. Prayer Meeting. Everyone is welcome to join together in prayer at the church on Wednesday evenings beginning June 17 from 7 8 p.m. in The Father Knows Best classroom. Prayer meeting will meet each Wednesday night through the end of July. VBS Decorating & Supply closet is open. It is located in the the unfinished area upstairs just north of 6 Heartbeat

If you d like to help June 22 26, contact Kathleen Anderson, Pringles cans are needed for VBS! We need 100 full-size Pringles cans with the plastic lid to turn into lighthouses. The cans and lids can be dropped off at the north or south information desks. Gardening. Please meet in the south parking lot on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Cleaners Needed. Cleaners are needed to vacuum and wipe down surfaces in a section of the church once every five weeks. If you d like to serve in this ministry, call Tami Coffin, Nursing Home Door-to-Door Evangelism. If you d like to give it a try, contact Adam Flaugh, Door to Door evangelism meets Mondays at the church s north entrance at 6:15 p.m. Evangelism for June 16 Jazz in June.
