2 421 St. Aloysius R. C. Church Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Page Three Fr. Rene s Letter Dear friends, Today, we join the whole Church in celebrating this feast of Christ the King, the King of the Universe. Yes, I am a King, says our Lord Jesus to Pilate. Prophet Daniel announces him as the Son of Man, whose dominion is everlasting, and whose kingship shall not be destroyed. The Book of Revelation proclaims him as the faithful witness, the first born of the dead, ruler of the kings of the earth, the Alpha and the Omega, the almighty One. Undoubtedly, the most authoritative proclamation of Christ s Kingship comes from his own mouth. In that most solemn moment during his trial before Pilate, he says unhesitatingly, Yes, I am a King. Before the highest civil authority in Palestine Christ proclaims his Kingship, and in the most formal manner. Moreover, bound in chains, powerless, and in the midst of the unspeakable humiliations of his passion, he proclaims himself King. Pilate is uncomfortable before Jesus, who is the Truth, and not prepared to look at the mirror that Jesus is holding up to him. Unwilling to listen to the truth, he cannot accept the Kingship of Jesus. Jesus is a King who serves not one who rules. Are you prepared for the eternal King, whose Kingdom is no borrowed kingdom? Prepared to invite Him to direct and govern you entirely, your memory, intellect, will, emotions? Ready and willing to follow His path of love? Let us consider the Thanksgiving Mass to be a key part in our Thanksgiving celebration on Thursday, November 26, Please make sure to mark your calendars so as to be able to join in our parish Thanksgiving Mass at 9:00am. In this joyful and vibrant liturgy, we will celebrate and express our profound gratitude to God, who loves us more than we can imagine. And within the Mass, we will have a blessing of food and wine. Next Sunday, the Season of Advent begins. A season of waiting, watching, and wondering. And a season of promise. Of new life, of a prayerful and humble trust in God. At every Vigil and Sunday Mass during the Advent Season, we will ask volunteer families to carry the lighted Advent Candle during the entrance procession and place it on the Advent Wreath candle holder that is located in the sanctuary. Many, many thanks to all those gave their time, talent, food, assistance, and strength to the wonderful installation of the new pastor. Richly blessed by the eternal Shepherd, the celebration was a celebration of a joyful and serving Church. Special thanks especially to the Spanish Charismatic community who prepared the auditorium, decorating it, putting out the tables and chairs and arranging them beautifully, and restoring it. Thank you all! Thank you! And from the "So you think English is easy column?" 1. The bandage was wound around the wound. 2. The farm was used to produce produce. 3. The dump was full and had to refuse more refuse. 4. We must polish the Polish furniture. 5. He could lead it but could not get the lead out. Peace, Fr. Rene

5 421 St. Aloysius R. C. Church November 22, 2015 Page Six Getting Ready for Next Sunday November 29th First Sunday of Advent Cycle C Scripture Readings ONLINE The website of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops provides the text Reflections on Next Sunday s Scripture Readings Jeremiah 33:14-16 Psalm 25 1 Thessalonians 3:12--4:2 Luke 21:25-28,34-36 Life is filled with in-between situations. We work toward success, but have yet to achieve it. We plan for a home, but haven't yet built it. We train to win a championship, but haven't yet won it. These inbetween times are crucial. Today's readings talk about life where there is beginning but not yet completion, hope but not fulfillment, expectation without realization. The Jeremiah passage offers hope to the people at a time when there is no Davidic king. The author teaches that God will provide, the future will bring change. In this in-between time there must be continued trust in God's promise to David. It's true that the fulfillment of this promise lies in the indefinite future, but there is still an obligation to hope in the present. Writing about twenty years after the death and resurrection of Jesus, Paul tries to strengthen his Thessalonian converts in their new faith. For Paul, an essential part of the Christian message is the Parousia, or the Second Coming. Without that event, the drama of salvation is incomplete. Paul believes the Parousia is imminent, but preparation is required. Paul asks two things: (1) an increase in mutual and universal love and (2) the attainment of the Christian goal. The goal is holiness expressed in loving concern for one another. The Parousia is not imminent for Luke. When the Parousia does occur, it will be a day of redemption for the oppressed and a day of vengeance on the oppressors of God's people. Constant prayer and vigilance will remove all fear about the return of the Son of Man. The Second Coming will make salvation complete. For reflection Today s gospel reminds us to be vigilant, and pray for strength. During this Advent season, what might you need to be most vigilant about? For what special strength will you pray? What positive signs of the times encourage you? What negative signs challenge us to work toward transformation? God s presence in our lives offers hope. What does hope in God mean for you? Who has been a sign of hope for you? To have yourself a merry little Christmas, it s been suggested to have yourself a simple little Advent. What s your reaction to this? -- John Craghan, Th.D., S.S.L. Copyright 1997, Liguori Publications / Liguori, MO
