While reading sacred scripture, read the words with a love and sense of discovery until something seems to strike home. Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend-not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Call to Prayer: Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press The Word of God: Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing: Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer: At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer or Spontaneous prayers or a faith-based song. Reflection Question for Next Sunday, June 29, 2014 It s hard to imagine how the early Church would have grown if Peter and Paul had not been her first leaders. They are so different the blustering, impetuous fisherman and the educated scholar. But once they had fell in love with Jesus and been filled with the Holy Spirit, they offered everything they were and had to the service of the Kingdom. God was able to do extraordinary things with them and through them in different ways. Ever think you are too ordinary to be a committed disciple of the Lord? Think again: let the Spirit work through you. 2 Dear Parishioners: This is certainly a most joyous weekend in the life of our parish. Yesterday at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, Archbishop Lori ordained three men of our parish to the Priesthood. Our parish extends our prayers and best wishes to: Father James Boric Father Canisius Tah Father Ned Conklin As they prepare now to be sent to work in the Lord s vineyard, please remember to continue to pray for them that God will use them and their priesthood to touch many hearts for Christ and that they may find much joy and fulfillment in serving Our Lord faithfully as His Priests. Although the students are gone for the summer months, we are open for business! Please come by to learn more about your parish school and all that we have to offer your family for a comprehensive academic and spiritual education. Over these next weeks and months, we will be hosting a few play dates to meet new students and families that will be joining us in the fall. If you would like to join us, please contact Colleen Craig at ccraig@stlouisparish.org, and we would be happy to add you to our contact list. Have a wonderful week! RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Please know that we understand the busy schedules of families with young children and teenagers. We d like to suggest that you take the time now to prayerfully consider other obligations (sports, scouts, school etc.) that your family may participate in this Fall and next Spring and make religious education class choices that will allow your child/children to attend class faithfully. Some of our optional programs: ACT NOW, WIRED, EDGE and Faith in the Family have a very limited number of spaces and registration for these programs WILL CLOSE once the spaces are full. If one of these optional programs is your family s first choice, you must register early, or risk the chance of the program being full and your registration for these options not being accepted. What an exciting and exhausting week we had moving into our new office space! We are so grateful to all who have contributed to the Capital Campaign to make the Parish Activity Center a reality. The space is just beautiful, and although not completely done just yet, we are unpacking in our new offices where everything has a proper place. We are looking forward to sharing the space with the parish community and cannot wait until you can all see it! Over the summer months we begin preparing for the next school year and wrap up important initiatives and events that occurred during the late spring. One of those events was our Annual Golf Classic. We are thrilled to announce that not only was it a wonderful day of camaraderie and friendship, but also financially successful, raising over $30,000 to use toward our technology needs next year. Our Laps for Learning event that occurred on Field Day, was also very successful thanks to our energetic students and our generous parents, grandparents and friends who pledged and sponsored to help us raise money to provide tuition assistance to our families. To date we have collected almost $9,000 in gifts and pledges and are so grateful! Thank you to Mrs. Lynne Layug and her army of volunteers for assisting in this important effort. Thank you to all who registered and designated St. Louis School for their grocery rewards at GIANT. You helped us earn over $11,500 in the Giant A+ Bonus Bucks reward program. You can register your card at anytime and designate up to 3 different schools to receive the rewards. Please visit Giant s website at and put your name on the list for St. Louis! We appreciate it! PLEASE ALSO REMEMBER If your child is currently enrolled in one of these optional programs, you are not guaranteed a spot next year. You MUST REGISTER EARLY to secure a spot for the 2014~2015 religious education year. Registration for our Saturday morning elementary religious education classes and Monday evening middle and high school religious education classes is not limited and may be the only option available for families who choose to postpone registration. We recognize the importance of your family s faith formation. We commit to providing excellence in catechesis and thank you for partnering with us to assure consistent class attendance and a continued emphasis on the support and encouragement needed to form faith filled young Catholics. If you have any questions, please call: for Elementary Religious Education or for Middle/High School Religious Education. YOUTH MINISTRY If you have anything to do with St. Louis religious education or school or CYM, chances are you are thinking about THE MOVE. As you can probably see pretty easily right now, the new building is just about completed and the various offices are slowly but surely transitioning to their new locations. CYM has TWO moves and will be in the Bishop Rooms until the area that used to be the school office is torn apart and renovated. Our CYM staff has been patiently packing box after box and yes, even getting rid of files and pictures and furniture that is outdated and no longer needed. It is, in a sense, a luxury to be made to go through everything and purge ourselves of that which is not necessary here.

6 Isn t that what being a Christian is, though? Maybe the season of Lent isn t the only time to take a look at the unhealthy and unholy areas of our lives. Maybe summer is the perfect time to pack up or even throw away those things that keep us from a better relationship with God and others. And maybe, just maybe, the luxury of a different schedule without school can help us do what is necessary to become more right with God. I LL BE PRAYING FOR ALL OF YOU.
