1 SUNDAY MASSES (All in Main Church) Saturday at 5 p.m. Sunday at 9 & 11 a.m. Holy Days as announced. WEEKDAY MASSES (All in Historic Church) Monday-Friday at 9 a.m. PERPETUAL ADORATION (In Chapel of the Nativity) RECONCILIATION (In Main Church) Friday 8-8:45 a.m. Saturday 3:30-4:45 p.m. Any time by appointment. Easter Sunday April 1, 2018 Dear Friends, Happy Easter! Alleluia! My sincere prayer that you and your families may know ever more deeply the Joy and Peace of the Risen Christ. Let us be joyful in the victory of Jesus Christ over sin, Satan and death a victory which Jesus shares with us, which we welcome anew each day and to which we recommit ourselves, during the Sundays of Easter in the renewal of our Baptismal promises. These promises, and all our liturgical celebrations throughout the year, remind us that the Easter mystery of Christ s Resurrection is our life, woven into all that we are, what we believe and how we live as God s people. St. Paul spent much of his life helping the Churches he founded to understand what it means to live a resurrected life in Christ. In his letter to the Colossians, for example, he tells the new Christians: If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. In most of Paul s letters, the message is the same: Do not go back to the old, former way of life that you left behind, but embrace the new life you now have in Christ. This is the purpose of our times of Lent. Our greater commitment to prayer, alms-giving and fasting helps us to live more fully in the resurrected life of Christ, letting it live in us. When we grow closer to God through prayer Christ is Risen! As we die to all forms of selfishness and become more generous in serving others Christ is Risen! When we overcome certain attachments through self-denial and discover the joy of a greater freedom to live for God and others Christ is Risen! When we repent of our sins or forgive someone, Christ is Risen! All of these are resurrections, signs of Christ s risen life within us and how we are signs to each other of Easter s true meaning. Christ is Risen! He has risen in us, and the fruits of his resurrection in us becomes more and more our daily joy. One of my favorite go to books during this season is by the English author, Caryll Houselander. In this book, she has a beautiful description of what it means to lead a Risen life, after the example of Jesus. She writes: It is to be a life of love, love that creates, love that fills up the measure of each life with joy. Love that is light and peace. Love that forgives and heals and sustains, that makes us one. Love that gives life to the world and gives beauty to life. Love that is food and clothing and water for thirst. Love that is bread. It is the love of the Eternal Father for his only Son, given to us and it is given to us for ourselves and for one another. Let us take to heart the message of St. Paul; let us not throw away the progress and growth we have made through Lent. Let us not give up our greater freedom from the bondage we left behind but hold fast to the graces of new growth, so that we can be better signs and proof to the world that Christ is truly risen!! God love you, Fr. Steven He is risen indeed, Alleluia!! ONLINE stpetersmendota.org 1405 Highway 13 PO Box Mendota MN church@stpetersmendota.org

5 PASTORAL MINISTRY FOLLOWING JESUS The resurrection of Jesus is our living hope, a real, solid hope of God s invincible love. It is hope in the victory of Jesus over sin, Satan and death in our lives, the certain hope of eternal life with God in Heaven. As followers of Jesus, let s remember every day this week to express our gratitude for the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead, for all the ways it impacts us now and for hope that it gives us in the life to come. Happy Easter! Hello everyone, Happy Spring! I don t know about you, but I am enjoying the sunshine and warm weather after a cold and snowy winter. It is a reminder that even when things aren t going well, they can get better. As many of you know, March was an exciting month here, because we were all geared up for the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign. Thank you to all who took the opportunity to put together a food drive at your school, church, business or neighborhood and to those generous individuals who have been stopping in to drop things off! Fund and food donations made during the campaign help us do better in this friendly competition among other agencies; the better we do, the larger share of FoodShare funds we receive. April is National Volunteer Month! To celebrate a little early, I thought I would share why some of our volunteers enjoy their work so much, in place of our regular Spotlight feature. Here are some of the things food shelf volunteers like about their experience: the camaraderie and the people. It connects me with everyone in my community, and it builds community, respect, and admiration. It gives you a greater appreciation for what is needed in the community and for what you have. It gives me the same feeling of being needed that I had when I had a career. Lastly, The coffee break! Many thanks to those who kindly donate their time! I hope you have the chance to brighten someone s day today! Thanks for all you do, Scott at Neighbors, Inc. NEIGHBORS, INC. ADORATION CHAPEL "Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again in glory. These words contain the very essence of the Eucharistic mystery. In them we find what we bear witness to and share in every day as we celebrate and receive the Eucharist. In the Upper Room Jesus effects the consecration. By virtue of His words, the bread - while keeping the external appearance of bread - becomes His Body, and the wine - while maintaining the external appearance of wine - becomes His Blood. This is the great mystery of faith! This is the living bread which came down from heaven!" ~ St. John Paul II Join Christ in our adoration chapel and immerse yourself in this mystery. Indeed, He is risen. Indeed, He is with us. The chapel is closed during Masses. If you need a sub for your hour, please refer to our substitute roster to cover your hour in advance. Contact Lisa Amos at or at lamos@stpetersmendota.org to sign up for an hour of adoration. We still need adorers at the following hours: Sunday: Monday: Tuesday: Wednesday: Thursday: Friday: Saturday: 2 to 3 pm, 4 to 4 pm, 5 to 6 pm 2 to 3 am, 3 to 4 am, None 1 to 2 am, 3 to 4 am 10 to 11 am 1 to 2 am, 4 to 5 pm, 7 to 8 pm 3 to 4 am, 4 to 5 am, 5 to 6 am, 7 to 8 am DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Divine Mercy Sunday will be celebrated on April 8, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 4030 Pilot Knob Road in Eagan. I want this image, which you will paint with a brush, to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter; that Sunday is to be the Feast of Divine Mercy." Diary, 49.
