Please make arrangements for the Pre-Baptismal instructions after the birth of the child in person at the rectory. Pre-instruction for both parents is required. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Arrangements must be made at the rectory in person by the couple. Where possible, arrangements should be made one year in advance and no later than six months. SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING Communal anointings of the sick are celebrated. Individual anointings may be celebrated anytime by request. HOSPITAL AND HOME VISITATION Please notify the parish of any family member who may be ill at home or in the hospital. We welcome the opportunity of visiting them and bringing them the Eucharist. 2 ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI PARISH, WESTON, CT MARTYRS OF KOREA (ANDREW KIM TAE-GON, PAUL CHONG HA-SANG AND COMPANIONS) September 20 th is the feast of the Korean Martyrs. Christianity came to Korea in secret in the 17th century. People who traveled to foreign lands learned about Jesus and were baptized. When they returned home, they shared their faith with others. The Korean government did not allow Christians to practice their faith. The Church in Korea was led quietly by lay people for many years until priests and a bishop were brought into the country and hidden from the government. When these Church leaders were discovered, they were martyred. Andrew Kim Taegon was the son of Korean parents who became Christians after hearing the Word of God. When Andrew was 15, his father was executed for being a follower of Jesus. The faith of his father and other brave Catholics inspired Andrew to become a priest, the first born in Korea. Andrew traveled 1,300 miles to the nearest seminary in faraway Macao, China. After six years of training, Andrew was ordained and returned to his country. Members of the Christian community helped him get past the border patrol. The Korean Catholics were overjoyed to finally have a priest who could celebrate the sacraments with them. But in 1846, Father Taegon was arrested and put to death for his faith at the age of 25. Paul Chong Ha-sang was a catechist training him for the priesthood with Father Taegon. He, too, was captured and martyred. In all, 103 Catholics died for their faith between 1839 and They were young and old, men and women, peasants and wealthy people. Pope John Paul II traveled to Korea in 1984 and canonized these Martyrs of Korea. We honor their sacrifice. They help us to remember that faith is a virtue that makes it possible to know and believe in God. 3 THE TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Eucharistic Adoration is held every Weds. From 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Adoration Chapel across from the Rectory. Adoration is also on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be sung at the Holy Hour of 3 p.m. on the second Weds. of each month. In the event either of these is canceled due to inclement weather or Holy Days of Obligation, we will send an as soon as possible. Dear Parishioners- Do you know of someone who is infirm and/or homebound and would like a home visit? I would like to visit our homebound/hospitalized parishioners regularly, so if you know of someone who would like a visit, please let me know. No Ordinary Path will explore ways that we can be attentive, intentional, and cooperative with God s grace in serving the world. Together we will take a journey, with the hope of discovering that who we are and what we do matters. We ll reflect on how living an ordinary life of holiness can lead to extraordinary happiness and peace. The retreat begins with a buffet dinner on Friday evening and concludes with the celebration of Sunday Eucharist at 10:45 a.m. followed by a hot brunch at noon.
