Viceroy, Governor and Captain General of my New Spain and President of m.y Royal Audiencia there 9was kind enough, in a decree dated the twenty-third of the current month, to appoint Adjutant Major don i`ielchor Afan de Rivera. In conformity with this, in consideration of the fact,. that all of the parts and qualities requisite and necesss.r.y for the discharge of this employmen.t come together in the person of yourself, the named don Melchor' and with the agreement of the before- said, my Iv viceroy9 //l have moved toward choosing and appointing you, as with the present instrvment, I do choose and. appoint you' as captain of the Presidio of San Augustin of Baunada, so that as such, and until something else is decided, you may carry out this employmient according

To this end, l command the governor of the Province of Tejas' with due obedience to this deci sion' to refrain from placing any impedim,e,nt or obstacle to handing over the said presidio and company to you, the cited Adjutant Major don. Presidio of Our Lady of Pilar of Los Adaes, on the sixth day of the month of November of this present year of one thousand seven hundred and sixty-five, I, don Angel de Martos ynavarrete9 lieutenant colonel of the royal armiesg governor and captain general of this Province of Tejas' New Philippines, its presidios, conversions and frontiers, by the Kir_g, our Lord (may God protect him): laving seen the preceding superior title issued in the City of Mexico on the twenty-seventh of August of the above-mentioned year by the M c st Excelle,nt Seor N.tarqeues de Gruillas which arrived in my hands at twelve //o'clock eiv S torn, His Majesty has conferred the office of provisional captain of the Royal Presidio of San Augustin of Ahumada, within this province, upon Adjutant Major don Melchor Afan de Rivera for the reasons mentioned therein along with everything.else contained therein' to which I refer, I, said governor, standing, and with head uncovered, took it into my hands and, as a sign of my due obedience to the sovereign cor^^ands 9 kissed it and placed it on my head.
