146 Presentation made, in the Royal Presidio by d,o,n Lorenzo de Bustamean,te requesting the freight, due him, for his mules and their supplies of Our Lady of Pilar of Los Adaes, on the fifth day of the month of July of this year of one thousand seven hundred and sixty-six' the petition of the following tenor, by reason of its contents5 was presented before me, don Anjel de Martos 35 y Nauarrete, lieutenant.colonel of the royal armies, governor and captain grene, ral of this Prov4inc,e of Texas, New Phil7'ippines, its presidios, conversions and frontiers by the King, our Lord, may God pr,otect him: Very Illustrious Sir:,I,, don Juan Manuel de Bustam,:an,te, resident at present in this royal presidio, appear before Yrour, L,ordshi.p, in the best manner to be found at law and convenient to myself and state that of the freight earned by my mules when by order of Commander don Marcos Ruiz they made a trip to this above-said presidio for the purpose of conveying the corn Y.our,. Lordship, remitted to aid the troop at Orcoquiza, fifty pesos
147 0 were lopped off and given as compensation to Captain don Raphael for as many more paid from his goods to the muleteers who handled the mules, during the time he was in charge of the administration of the troop. My said mules made some trips to San Antonio at don Raphael's expense at that time, returning from there loaded with corn for the above-mentioned troop, the freight for which is, as yet, owed to me. When the. above-mentioned Captain don Raphael made satisfaction lv for them, the said fifty were lopped off //ems. torn, said MS. torn, to said freight CMS, torn, I request they be MS. torn, to me. In like manner I demand of Yrour, Lrordship, the quantity of one hundred and forty pesos for the last trip which my said mules made from the Presidio of San Antonio de Vejar to the jresi.dio, of Orcoquiza, from where they went by order of Your, L,,ordship, to bring, at your expense, the corn from San Antonio. I make this demand, basing myself, on the reasons I have expressed and because Your, Lordship, charged the sixty-one p}^eso,s spent by the muleteers for their maintenance, salaries and harness repair to the account of the freight which my said mules had previously earned from Y,our, I,6ordship,. One and the other amount make the quantity, of one hundred and ninety pesos7 which I request you be pleased to have
148 paid to me with a curree,nt draft. Therefore, I entreat Yeour, L,,ordshs.p, to have done and provided as I ask, for it is just, and, if it cannot be done, to return to me this writ and its judgement for whatever purposes I may find convenient. I swear I do"not act with malice and to.what is necessaryl etc. I also request, that.this rinstrument, be accepted from me on the.pr'.esent common paper, for there is none of the stamped in this royal presidio. Juan Manuel de Bustamante. l-lv in E ,.
Once I had seen the preceding instrument,l I accepted it as having been presented and admitted on this common paper without detriment to the Royal Treasury. In attention to it, and inasmuch as a,o,n Lorenzo Bustamante received the fifty peeso,s therein expressed by means of a current draft and d,o,n Phelis Pacheco loaded the mules therein mentioned with corn upon their arrival in San Antonio, this party may make use of the rights belonging to him in order to collect the two 2 amounts which //cms..,torn, of the M,. torn, the corresponding certified copy for whatever contingency, may arisep Thus I provided, ordered and signed with my attesting witnesses, with whom I act for lack of a notary, on this commonpaper for lack of any other in this provci.nc,e, To all of which I certify: don Angel de Martos y Nauarrete FranEcis,co Antonio Solis Antonio Samora Between lines -- lack -- valid 6C, lv-2 in E ,
15 0 Agrees with its original, which was given to the party, to which I refer, from which I, d.o,n Anjel de Martos y Navarrete' lieuctena,nt colonel of the royal armies, governor and captain g,,ene, ral of this Provcinc,e of Texas by the King, our Lord (may God pr.otec,t.him) had it made on these two used pages for the purposes convenient to me. It has been faithfully transcribed, corrected and adjusted, Present to see it transcribed, corrected and adjusted were my attesting witnesses, with whom I act for lack of a notary, on this common paper for lack of any other in this Royal Presidio of Our LCa,dy of Pilar of Los Adaes, where it is done on the fifth day of the month of July of the present year of one thousand seven hundred and sixty-six. To all of which I certify: n d. Angel de Martos y Navarrete (Rubric) co 0 Fran. Ant. Solis Antonio Samora (Rubric) (Rubric),DS 2 in E ,
