r_gross, D,o,n Angel de Martos y Nauarrete, Lieur_tena,nt Golonre, l of the R,oya, l.ar,mi,es9 Gov,ernor and Captrai,n G,ene, ral of this Provrinc,e of TY?ej.a,s, New Philipc.^i.ne,s9 its Presridi, osi Conversions and Frontierr,s9 with the military command of Panzacola and Coaguila and with the ass, istanc,e of the New Kingdom of Leon by His 1,11,ajest,y (may God pr,otec,t him):?nasmuch as it has been ordered in a supceri,or dispatch 0 from the Captrainc,yG,ene, ral of the Veery Fxcelle,nt S.etor Viceroy of these Kingdoms, with an opinion from the SreP^^or Auditor GCene, ral of War, that the detrimental distu.rbances and dissensiorn,s, along with the continual and repeated appeals to the Capt,a.inc,y Grene, ral of His Fxcrellenc,yq be prevented, it has become necessary to cut, with full knowledge, the seed and root of said disturbances in order to settle the peace and tranquillity of all the cit^ize,ns and inhs.bit, ant;,s of this Villa of San Fernran,do and P.roya,l Presr_idi,o of Sarn-r`Antroni,o. If for this it should be con-.sidered convenient to banish some of the troublesome families who cause the disturbances, the Govrern,or of this Provrinc,e of the Thejra,s shall do so.
By virtue of the above,; inasmuch as, I find myself with a sup, erior orrde,r from the Verry Encelle,n.t Setor Viceroy of these rkingdoms,: in which His Excellency, orders that the sreni,or alguacil Dron Vis,en,te Albares Trauieso and Dro,n Franrcis,co de Arocha, not.a,ry public, leave all of this before-mentioned provrinc,e in exile because of their being the principal leaders in the mentioned disturbances and dissensio,n;'s in this above-mentioned villa; rinasmuch as, it was. established in a contradictory judgment that the two mentioned were the principal leaders in all the discords, fac= tions9 quarrels and entanglements which had occurred among these inhabitants; rinasmuch as, the xto,:tary Arocha stated, in order to release his conscienrc,e^ that all the judicial acts he had performed against the Rerverend, Missionary Fa,th.ers, were false, void a.nd of no value or effect, as contained in the point of death.declaration he made, authorized by the LSePi,or Vicarria,l Curate and -Ecclesiastical Judge of this said villa the Bachelor D,o,n Juan Yg,nacio de Cardenas Pinilla y Ramos; r-inasmuch as,9 in view of everything, i must attend to the fulfill,me,n.t of my exact obligation of maintaining the peace and tranquillity in t&ich. all of these inhabit, ant,s should remain; inasmuch as, the naturra,l turbulence of said Trauieso has suffered no.correction, for, lv being //aware of that dire,ct,ed and ordered by the superiority of His Excrellenc,y, instead of restraining his natural
turbulence he has attempted new disturbancre,s by claiming not only the right of voice and vote in the cauildo but also the first place and precedence over all of the mentioned rei_idor_,,e.,s9 intending that the rods of office of the alcaldes should devolve on him during their absence in order that he might be absolute and sole judge over everyone, thus opposing in his designs that direrct,ed and agreed upon by his M.ajesty, (may Grod p,rotec,t him) in his Broya,l laws; inasmuch as, he also wishes^ by his sole will, to go against that accustomed and followed in the cities and villas of these Kingdoms (all of the referred can be proved)9 opposing the gro,.ur,th and extension of this settlement, in the manner contained in the Book of Cauildo of this said villa, by not placing in its Archive the original papers which belong in it; r^inasmuch as, I issued an order.in my decree dated, the fourteenth of September of the year of fifty-nine concerning which subject, after I, said Gov,ern,or9 had made the corresponding charge' said Trauieso replied that each one took what was in his favor and what he needed; but, notwithstanding all of this, attentive,to his great age and large family and making use of the g^reate,st compassion so that he will not lose or suffer severe damage to his proprert,y, I should command and do command that all_, this be registered in the Book of Elections,.after making evident to the cauildo, judiciary and 0
admin, istrati,on of this above-mentioned villa that which I have resolved. In the same manner I order and conlrr?and said cauildo to watch and observe with the greate,st attention' care and effort that said Trauieso not move, disturb or excite new disputes and disturbarices among these cit, ize,ns and inhabitrant,s and rincite, them to again disturb the tranquil peace and unity in which they now exist. Said cauildo shall try to obstruct any meetings in the house of said Trauieso or in any other house, whatsoever from which might emerge or originate new dissensions so damaging to the community. If said Trauieso should continue in his natural 2,//troublesomeness and not try to live with the greate,st of tranquillity, peace and quietness' assisting in the gro'^w,th of the political state and the extension of this settlement, they shall suspend him from the office of s,eni,or alzuacil and shall give me nrotificati,on of this through writs in order that I may take the other measures suitable to justice. He shall be notified personally of this writ, Thus I decreed, ordered and signed in this Villa of Sra,n. Fernran,do on the sixth day of the month of Seprtem,- ber of the year one thousand seven, hundr,ed and sixty-two, acting in my own presence as recedtoria for lack of a pu,bl,ic or R,:oya,l norta,ry, of which there is none in this

Once he understood everything, he stated that his conduct here in this land is known and that in other places through which he has travelled they know whether he is good or bad. He gave this as his reply, which he signed with rrae, 0 said Grovern,or, and the before-m,ention,ed cauildo, judicriar,y and adminristrati,on in the nresre, nce of my attrestin,g witn;^ess,es as has been stated. In witness whereof I certify: Dro,n Angre,l de Martos y Nauarrete Bisren,te Albarre,s Trauieso Luis Ant.oni o Menchaca Andres Ramon Franr-cis,co Delgado Dredr,o de Ocon y Trillo Juan Jrose,ph de Montes de Wca Domring,o Castelo
