3 NOVEMBER 1, 2015 ALL SAINTS DAY The 2015 Great Fall Hymn Sing THIS AFTERNOON AT 3PM At St. Luke s Church HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING: SONGS OF THE PEOPLE featuring the Senior Choirs of West Plains United and St. Luke s Anglican churches As always audience participation is welcome and yes there will be a "Lucky Draw" so you can request your favourite hymn. The Hymn Sing is a fun afternoon & everyone is welcome. Admission is $10.00, children aged 12 and under will be admitted for free so plan to bring your children & grandchildren. Tickets are available at the door. Following the Hymn Sing there will be a reception with delicious treats in the parish hall. Bill's Bridge to Raise the Roof Bill and Verna Lavergne are hosting an afternoon of Bridge in support of the new roof. St. Luke s Great Hall, Thursday November 5th, 1 pm-4pm. Tea, coffee, treats and door prizes-all for $20 a ticket! 4 The Raise the Roof Campaign We hav We have a new logo courtesy of one of our talented parishioners, Fergus Kyle! Thank you Fergus for doing thiswe especially loved the assist we are getting from Angels ORDERS FOR YOUR CHRISTMAS POINSIETTAS AND WREATHS WILL BE TAKEN AFTER THE 8:15 SERVICE AND AT COFFEE HOUR FOLLOWING THE 10 AM SERVICE. ORDER FORMS ARE IN THIS BULLETIN. The next Community Lunch is Nov. 4, followed by a break until Dec. 2 as the Christmas Market needs the hall. Thank you to our volunteers for the work they do to offer our delicious lunches. There are openings on our volunteer teams for new volunteers. Call Heather White at if you are interested. Donations of plastic containers such as 500 and 1 litre yogurt or cottage cheese containers would be appreciated by the community lunch. Thanks! Taizé Night Prayer FRIDAY, Nov. 13, :30 p.m. In the busyness of our work-a-day lives, we all need a place and a space where we can be still and know the presence and the peace of God. In a world that is filled with noise it is good to have a place where quiet is respected and conversation is not required. Come and Pray With Us in the stillness of a candlelit hour. Please join us for coffee/tea and a time of fellowship immediately following the 10am service. Please remember to sign up to serve one Sunday. We can t do it without your help! LUKE S CHRISTMAS MARKET SATURDAY NOVEMBER 21st 9AM The Christmas Market will be here before you know it, and we have a few updates/requests for you to help us be successful: 1) Volunteers are needed to take over the task of creating Christmas Urns for the market this year. After years of dedicated service, Gini Bettger is retiring from that position and we are looking for some new (or old) talent to keep this valuable group going. 8 NOVEMBER 1, 2015 ALL SAINTS DAY The Speakers Lunch Group The aim of the speakers lunch group is to foster awareness among parishioners of happenings and endeavours in the wider community that may be worthy of interest and support. The group meets at 11:30am on the second Thursday of each month for social time, followed by a Bring your own lunch and a talk by the speaker of the month. Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings. Please call Richard at or 510kbraithwaite@gmail.com for more information. On Thursday November 12 Our speaker scheduled for November is Betty Laron. Betty tells her story of how she and her Jewish parents survived in German occupied Holland during the Second World War. Her story is quite similar to that of Anne Frank, except for the ending. Betty and her family hid under the German noses for 786 days until liberated by Canadian soldiers. PHOENIX FELLOWSHIP DROP IN CENTRE meets Wednesday morning in room 201 of the Parish Hall, following the 10am church service. 9 SATURDAY MEN S PRAYER BREAKFAST PRESENTS The importance of the Old Testament to Jesus and Christians SATURDAY NOVEMBER 14, 9:30AM For most of us, the Old Testament offers many challenges for our reading and understanding. Come and be a part of a lecture/discussion about the Old Testament, by a well respected Old Testament scholar and teacher in the Faculty of Divinity at Trinity College at the University of Toronto. He will consider some of the different ways Christians, ancient and modern, have worked to interpret these ancient texts that make up the only Bible Jesus knew. Dr. Walter Deller worked for the Diocese of Toronto and was Principal and Professor of Old Testament and Congregational Life at the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad in Saskatoon. He has also lectured on human rights and the church, on the Bible and human sexuality, marriage and same sex unions, and on violence and the Bible. He collaborated with colleagues at the University of Saskatchewan studying the impact of government policy and social change on the health of northern First Nations communities over the course of the twentieth century, and from time to time has been a church musician. This event will take place in the Great Hall. A Continental breakfast will be served. Please register your attendance (for catering purposes) by phoning George (905) and leaving a message. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. Canadian Nurses for Africa, a previous presenter at one of our Advocacy Breakfasts, believe that access to basic health care is a universal human right.
