5 Speakers Lunch Group The next meeting of the Speakers Lunch Group 2017/18 season is on Thursday October 12 and our speaker is Peter Fisher Peter is a longtime Burlington resident and his talk is entitled The History of Fisher Farms years of farming in Nelson Township." The aim of the Speakers Lunch group is to foster awareness among parishioners of happenings & endeavours in the wider community that may be worthy of interest & support. The group meets at 11:30 am on the second Thursday of each month for social time, followed by a Bring Your Own Lunch & a talk by the speaker of the month. All are welcome. Monday Evening Bible Study On Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 the Monday Evening Bible Study group reached a monumental milestone: our journey through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation reached its conclusion. We finished our journey with Rev. 22:21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you and all of God s people. Amen So, where do we go from here? On Monday, October 16, we will gather to begin our odyssey again this time with greater insight, a stronger understanding of sacred scripture and a deep respect for each other s knowledge, opinions and reflections. St. Luke s Blanket Exercise Saturday November 4 9:30am to 1pm The Blanket Exercise is a simulation that illustrates the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-indigenous peoples in Canada. Lead by the Venerable Val Kerr, Archdeacon for Truth, Reconciliation and Indigenous Ministry, this hands-on truth and reconciliation activity teaches the Indigenous rights history we are rarely taught. This information may be included in Jim s homily on November 12th. Givings Horse Race: Each week we will update how our general offerings are doing relative to budget. It ll look like a slow-motion horse race which will last all year! Here are our current numbers as of Sept. 24: Weekly Budget for general givings each week is $ Budget Actual Difference Last Week $7, $9, $ Year-to-date $283, $302, $18, We did very well on givings last Sunday, receiving more than $2000 over budget. This is partly because some people make their donations annually rather than every Sunday and this happened for a key giver this past week. Please note that, although we re $18, ahead of budget on this giving line, there was still about $12,700 carry-over deficit from last year as well as an Additional Revenue Required budget line of $29,000 which we are also chasing this year. That totals an additional $47,000 we need on other budget lines. Fortunately being this far ahead on givings knocks that down to only another $23,000 that we still need to find by the end of the year to meet budget. We are only in this position because we made the difficult decision of moving from 2.5 clergy to 2 (and were only at 1.5 for a quarter year.) If we had not made that decision, we would definitely be in a difficult financial situation at this point. We appreciate all that our parishioners do to support their Church throughout the year!

7 The Christmas Market (Saturday, November 18th) will be here before you know it, and we would like to ask that you begin in earnest to collect / save for us the following: **Jams, Jellies and other preserves (inquiries to Group Leader Eileen Spidle ( ); **Knitted, crocheted & sewn items for our sewing and knitting area (Group Leader Marlene Marks ( ); ***Craft Items & new or very gently used Christmas decorations (inquiries to Group Leader Pam Farrauto ( ). ***New and gently used items for our Children s Table, including toys plush animals, books, puzzles, model cars, play kitchens etc. (Leslie Allen ( ) ***Please also keep us in mind when you begin your Christmas baking! Drop Off Days for all of your generous contributions will be as follows: Treasure Room - Monday, November 13 through Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 9-5. The earlier in that time frame the better; this gives our Treasure Room elves time to organize their displays attractively and put the finishing touches on on the Friday. All Other Areas - Wednesday, November 15th through Friday, November 17th, 9-5. Raffle tickets will be on sale in October at coffee hour, and sign up volunteer sheets for those who are not already working with a specific group will also be available at coffee hour in October.
