Doors Open at St Luke's Saturday, September 30, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. This is a wonderful chance to open our doors again this year to our community and we are very pleased to be invited to be part of this again. In the past we have had about 400 people come through our beautiful church on this day where many historic buildings in Burlington open their doors for many interested visitors. But we need your help - volunteers for a 3 hour shift to welcome and guide visitors through. A most rewarding time to meet up with many of our community. Please contact Janice Skafel or the.skafels@sympatico.ca Save the Date: St. Luke s Blanket Exercise November 4 The Blanket Exercise is a simulation that illustrates the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non indigenous peoples in Canada. This hands on truth and reconciliation activity will engage you on an emotional and intellectual level. It is a profound learning experience that teaches the Indigenous rights history we are rarely taught. We are pleased to announce the exercise will be led by the Venerable Val Kerr, Archdeacon for Truth, Reconciliation and Indigenous Ministry. The event will take place from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Watch for more information and registration details later this month. PLEASE HELP US TO KEEP IN TOUCH If you have a friend or family member who is in the hospital please let the clergy know or contact the office at or office@stlukesburlington.ca Or, if you notice that a parishioner who usually attends our services hasn t been here for a while, or you know them to be sick or in hospital, please let us know. The clergy will be happy to contact them to arrange a visit.

6 El Hogar in February 2018! It s hard to believe that it s already time to think about organizing our 2018 trip to El Hogar. The date of the trip is Saturday, February 24 th to March 3 rd, If you ve been pondering whether or not this might be an item for your bucket list, please join us on Tuesday, September 26 th at 7:30 in the board room. We will discuss El Hogar s mission and goals, team members obligations and expectations both financial & personal, as well as the work involved as we prepare for the trip, while we are in Honduras, and after our return. Stamina, flexibility, a sense of humour & the ability to be involved over a period of 7 months from pre to post trip, are essential. The rewards of service there and how this can be a life-changing experience will also be discussed. Please bring any questions you may have about this wonderful project. For more information please contact Ros & Rick Reycraft at , rosreycraft@hotmail.com or Janice Skafel at Givings Horse Race: Each week we will update how our general offerings are doing relative to budget. It ll look like a slow-motion horse race which will last all year! Here are our current numbers as of Sept. 3rd: Weekly Budget for general givings each week is $ Budget Actual Difference Last Week $7, $7, $ Year-to-date $261, $274, $13, We almost made our budget for givings last week, but not quite. Note that although we are $13, ahead of year-to-date budget for this giving line on the budget, there is still about $10, 000 of additional revenue that we will need to find on another line of the budget. So, all in all, we re tracking quite well to budget. We hope that with the generous support of parishioners we will balance our budget by year end. We appreciate all that our parishioners do to support their Church throughout the year! Shalom/Salaam.. Stuart ALLERGY ALERT We have a number of parishioners with scent allergies, so we are reminding people to please refrain from wearing any perfume or perfumed products to church. Thank you for your consideration for those who suffer in this way. Have a suggestion/comment? Please use the suggestion box in the Narthex. Be assured that all suggestions & comments are directed to the appropriate person or group, but we can only provide feedback if you include your name/contact info.

7 SEPTEMBER 10, 2017 PENTECOST XIV ST LUKE S FAITH AND FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST A TALK BY BISHOP MICHAEL BIRD WALKING ON WATER IN NIAGARA SEPTEMBER 23, 2017 at 9am Bishop Michael Bird will be our guest speaker. The Bishop s talk will focus on God s greatness at work in many parishes throughout our Diocese. This event will be held in the Great Hall at 9am. A light breakfast will be served beginning at 8:30am All are welcome. Registration is required so that we know how many to expect and can plan for breakfast. Please call Dave Beck at Free will offering. CHRISTMAS MARKET SATURDAY NOVEMBER 18, 2017 A reminder to those Christmas Market Group Leaders (and other interested parties) just returned from summer vacations: We will be having a Group Leaders Meeting on Monday September 11 at 7:30 in Room 201. Please mark this on your calendars; we hope to see all of you there. Also, we are still in need of someone(s) to take over the responsibility of ordering/selling the wreaths and poinsettias this year. If you think either of these endeavours might be a way you would be interested in contributing, please do come along to the meeting and make yourself known to one of us. Although November 18th (Save the Date!) seems far away while we all have the glow of summer still about us, November will be here before you know it, and we begin in earnest to save those items that might be suitable to the Treasure Room & Children s Tables, as well as producing items such as baked goods, sewn and knitted items, craft items etc. for contribution to the cause. Whatever your creative passions, we hope you will find it in your heart to contribute some to the Christmas Market. Notices will follow as to drop off times during lead-up week, and sign up sheets for interested volunteers who do not already have a fixed position in one of the many groups will be available at coffee hour in October. Thank you one and all! Sincerely, Your 2017 Christmas Market Convenors, Lesley Emery (905) Colin Campbell (289) Carole Prytula (905)
