4 Divine Mercy Novena - April 18 thru April 27 Pray the Divine Mercy Novena beginning Good Friday, April 18th through the Second Sunday of Easter - Divine Mercy Sunday on April 27th. Booklets will be available at our parish churches. Divine Mercy Sunday April 27th On the Sunday after Easter the entire Church is called to gather throughout the world to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. From St. Maria Faustina s Diary it is clear that this Octave Day of Easter is a day chosen by Christ as a day of extraordinary graces - a complete outpouring of His mercy upon all who approach Him with great trust and expectant faith. To properly celebrate this day, it is good to prepare well. Preparation for Mercy Sunday 1. Consider your ability to focus on performing spiritual and corporal works of mercy. 2. Spend more time in prayer, as well as doing penance and giving alms. 3. It is important to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation sometime before of after the celebration of Divine Mercy. For those who feel called to confess, it would be well to consider the example of Saint Faustina herself, who made her confession on the Saturday before Mercy Sunday (Diary, 1072). 4. Praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet especially during the 3 o clock hour 5. Praying the Divine Mercy Novena (April 18 thru April 27) can be helpful preparation as well. 6. Many people benefit from doing more spiritual reading or reflecting on Sacred Scripture. 7. The Diary entries recording the words of Our Lord in regard to confession do not explicitly say that confession is to be received on the day itself, but that Holy Communion must be received on that day (Diary, 300, 699, 1109). Sunday, April 27th from 12noon until 3:30pm join us for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and praying of the Divine Mercy Chaplet at St. Faustina Church in Jackman. The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited 20 minutes before each Mass on the weekend of April 26 and 27. ABC s of Mercy Ask for Mercy Be merciful to others Conpletely Trust in Jesus. Weekly Prayer For Priests April 13: Bishop Robert P. Deeley, DD April 14: V. Rev. Lionel Chouinard & Rev. Placid Barius OFM April 15: Rev. Aaron Damboise & Bishop Paul Baltakis OFM April 16: Msgr. 5 Liturgical Celebrations Come, Worship the Lord together with Us! Holy Week Schedule Monday, April 14 4:30pm in Holy Family Chapel Tuesday, April 15 ticket needed 5:45 Chrism Mass at Cathedral in Portland 6th Annual Tennebrae Service April 16th at 6:30pm in Holy Family Church Triduum Schedule Holy Thursday, April 17th 6:30pm at St. Faustina Church Good Friday, April 18th 3:00pm at Holy Family Church 6:30pm at St. Faustina Church Holy Saturday / Easter Vigil, - April 19th 8:00pm in St. Faustina Church Easter Sunday Masses - April 20th 8:00am Mass St. Faustina Church 11:00am Mass Holy Family Church The Triduum The Essence of our Faith Holy Thursday - The Triduum is the whole of our faith in three days the Paschal Mystery in its essence. It begins with the gift of Jesus Himself in the Eucharist and includes His command that we serve others as he served, that is, with His whole life, even in the grittiest dimensions of human life. Prayer intentions for the day: vocations, service to the poor, faith in the unseen presence of God in the Eucharist and all the sacraments. Good Friday - The Passion encompasses every kind of suffering - physical, psychological, shame, humiliation, mockery and more - including death. In the case of Jesus, it made no sense for a totally innocent man to be a scapegoat for us and endure the unmerited suffering as an archetype for all our suffering. Prayer intentions for the day: victims of violence, bullying, scapegoating, those suffering physical and mental illness. Holy Saturday and Easter Vigil - At the end of the normal course of human life, that is, death, all seemed to be lost. And from a strictly human, earthly perspective it was. The Resurrection came unexpectedly, beyond our imagining and made it possible for all of us to hope for eternal life. Prayer intentions for the day: hope in what appears to be a hopeless situation, gratitude for the gift of life, trust in God s mercy. The Mystery of the Cross and Resurrection assures us, however, that hatred, violence, blood and death do not have the last word in human affairs. The final victory is Christ s, and we must start afresh from Him, if we wish to build a future of authentic peace, justice, and solidarity for all. Pope John Paul II, Reflections on the Triduum
