2 Pastor s Pen Annie, Our Parish Play Last weekend our parish theatre group, also known as The Players, performed for the people of New Hyde Park, here at Holy Spirit Church. Annie was the play, Marilyn McClain and Mimi Jaye the brains behind it. As usual the acting was spectacular, humorous, serious at times, fun and inspiring. It was a lift me up in ways. The theme was, although times may sometimes be difficult, there is Always Tomorrow! This is also the Christian message, no matter how trying times may be, we always have God on our side. I thank all of our actors and actresses for a job well done. In a special way I thank, and congratulate, our two Annie s: Holly Gannon and Braidy Nidermaier, 13 and 11 years old, for an incredible performance. I was proud of them and in awe of how great a job they did! As we celebrate the season of Advent, in anticipation for the miracle of Christmas, the cast presented the parish with a beautiful gift. 3 Pastor s Pen Advent Continue.s One of our responsibilities during Advent, our preparation to meet the Lord, is to be grateful to others. I would like to thank two parish organizations for their support of our parish. First, the Rosary Society. I few weeks ago, the members of the Rosary Society raised almost $13, at the Christmas Fair. This was a tremendous accomplishment! More importantly, I thank the Rosary society for their important work all year long. Before their monthly meetings they meet in the Church to pray the Rosary. There is nothing more important than prayer and to pray the Rosary is a gateway to heaven. Last Monday, the Rosary Society had their annual Christmas party. It was well attended and everyone seemed to have a good time. It was at this event that the ladies presented the check to me for our parish. The Rosary Society is a group of women with a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and they honor her with words of prayer and acts of love. Their presence in the life of our parish is a blessing to all of us! Spiritual Bouquet The Christmas spiritual Bouquet Cards are present throughout the Church. Everyone is welcome to take one in memory of a loved one. Please consider making a donation to cover the cost of the cards -4-

4 2018 Christmas Eve Pageant This year, the Holy Spirit Christmas Pageant will take place on Friday, December 21 st at 7:30 pm in the Church. All children from 4 years old through 6 th grade are invited to take part in our Christmas Pageant. If you don t want to be in the pageant but would still like to be a part of it, you can also sign-up to sing. Children 2 nd grade through 12 th grade are invited to sing in the Christmas Pageant Choir! Sign up will take place on Sunday, December 2 nd and Sunday, December 9 th after the 9:30 am Mass, in the back of the Church. All children in the pageant need to attend a rehearsal on Saturday, December 15 th at 2:30 pm in the Church. Members of the Parish are also invited to come to the pageant! After the pageant is over, we will have hot chocolate and other treats in the cafeteria! It will be a great night and a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas! 7 Sunday Scripture Reflection. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are behind us. The presents are ready to be wrapped. The ingredients for the Christmas cookies are in the pantry. The decorations have been brought down from the attic. Stamps for the card have been bought and the cards are addressed. We are getting ready for Christmas. Or are we? Perhaps we can take a few moments each day to contemplate the true meaning of Christmas, the great mystery of the Incarnation, God made man. FORMED can help with our spiritual preparation for Christmas. If you have already registered for FORMED, you should have received an invitation for a brief, daily thought of the day for each day of Advent. Be on guard, Jesus warns in today s gospel, lest your spirits become bloated with indulgence. Those attending are asked to meet at Holy Spirit Church s Parish Center parking lot (located at c/o South 6th St. and First Ave., NHP) at 8:30 AM. Coffee and doughnuts in the Church basement will be served prior to boarding the school buses by 9:00 AM. 10 Holy Spirit Social Ministry At this time of year - November and December, we welcome a turkey or ham if you have one to donate. Our families are always so grateful. During the season of Advent the Social Ministry Office sponsors a Giving Tree. The tree will be up in the Church on November24/25 thru December 8/9. You are invited to take one or more ornaments from one of the trees. The gifts As always, thank you for your genneed to be returned by the weekend of December 8/9, as we distribute the gifts to the families the week before Christmas. Please attach the labeled ornament to a new gift. Each ornament is marked with a number for a specific person of a family. PLEASE DO NOT Our "Giving Trees" are up in the church. Just a few simple rules: Please don't change the ornament tag, as it is made out for a particular person. Please attach the tag to a new gift, so we know who it belongs to.
