Today, many are frail, elderly, and in need of assistance. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for the Religious helps to furnish medications, nursing care, and other necessities. RELIGIOUS ARTICLES FOR SALE Next weekend, November 17 & 18, Roni Salsa representing Bethlehem Christian Families, a non-profit organization through Land of Peace, will be with us speaking about the Christian situation in the Holy Land. The group will be selling crucifixes, religious art work, and rosaries, all made of olive wood which is native to Israel & Bethlehem. The sale of religious items will take place after all Masses in the meeting room. Since tourism has greatly depleted, Christian Families in the holy land, who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. The goal of this mission is to help many organizations and Churches in the Middle East and to help establish a Charitable Hospital in Bethlehem to help needy families in the Holy Land and the Middle East. Sale of these goods will help them very much and also give you the opportunity to have something authentic from the holy land. Please browse and buy some articles. 3 Connect with Parish and Community She, From Her Poverty, Has Contributed All She Had Generosity is one of the many virtues of an authentic Christian life. Our hearts are formed to recognize that everything we have is a blessing and a gift from God and, as we are taught from our earliest years, it is good to share what we have been given. Typically, our generosity whether it is in the form of time, talent or treasure is a gift of our surplus. Our volunteerism or fundraising support is budgeted in light of the many other obligations, expectations and responsibilities of our daily lives. Yet, today s Gospel reading gives us some food for thought as we reflect upon the charity and service that are hallmarks of the Christian life. The poor widow, we are told, sharing those two small coins gives all she has as an act of generosity. In a way, she becomes an image of Jesus Christ who would ultimately pour himself out entirely and give of his own life for us all. Does this mean that we have to give everything we own to charity or quit our jobs so that we can spend every waking moment volunteering for this or that? Not quite. However, it is an invitation for us, as we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! to not simply give what is leftover to acts of charity and service, but that we give our best in service of God and others. Let us recognize that our livelihood is directed by the God who loves us and gives us so many good gifts. 4 LOOKING AHEAD...TRC & STV Some new changes the TRC & STV parishioners will experience in the near future: New Metal Signs: Parish Community Church signs are being made to acknowledge the unity of both parishes. These signs will be hung outside each parish entrance once they are completed. One Bulletin: Beginning the first Sunday of Advent, our Parish communities will share one bulletin. You will continue to see changes in both TRC & STV bulletins as we progress forward towards one bulletin. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Architect We are seeking a parish volunteer with a professional background as an Architect to help with design ideas for more offices and a meeting room at St. Victor Parish. This individual would work with maintenance supervisor, Chris Galbraith. Call if you can help. Human Resources we are seeking four Volunteers (2 from St. Victor Parish and 2 from Transfiguration Parish) with a professional background in Human Resources. Snow Shoveler- The Parish is looking for dependable individuals to be paid for clearing the sidewalks at Transfiguration Parish, along with minimal shoveling and spreading salt at doorways and walkways during the winter months. All equipment and materials will be provided by the church. This will take place at the 9:00 am Mass. Confirmation students are to arrive at church by 8:45 am and meet in the Meeting room to process in with Father. NO CCD CLASS on Sunday, November 25 because of the Thanksgiving break. Classes will resume on Sunday, December 2. TUTORING PROGRAM The tutoring program has begun! We are in need of tutors. This is the closing class for this session of The Six Steps to Sanity, which is adapted from the bestselling book Setting Boundaries with Your Adult Children, by Allison Bottke. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS BISHOP'S PROJECT FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN SEALS The Knights of Columbus are asking you to support the Bishop's Project for Exceptional Children. Via the bulletin next weekend November 17 & 18, they are distributing seals for the Bishop's Project which they encourage you to use and to support with a donation. Donations from the seals program are used to fund the McGuire Homes for children and adults with profound physical & mental disabilities and also the St. Anthony School Program for students ages 5 through 21 with developmental disabilities. Express your Christmas wishes through your generosity for those challenged children and young adults and add the seals to your Christmas mailings. 31 CLUB PRAYERS FOR VOCATIONS MEETING DATE CHANGE The 31 Club Rosary to pray for priestly and religious vocations is prayed at churches throughout the Diocese. Our day has previously been the first Tuesday of the month. Due to the changes in the morning Mass locations, the 31 Club Rosary will now be prayed at Transfiguration Parish at 7:30 AM on the SECOND FRIDAY of each month.
