1 2018 Retreat Class Schedule Friday Classes Main House 5:00pm-7:00pm Registration & Supper Main House 7:30pm - 8:00pm Yoga Outreach Opening & Welcome Sky House 8:00pm - 9:00pm Candle light meditation This is an opportunity for self guided reflection and quiet. Main House Saturday Classes Main House 8:00pm - 9:30pm Kirtan Vancouver 7:00am - 8:00am Suzette Birrell Kirtan Kirtan is the ancient practice of call and response chanting, combining mantra and music to open one's heart. The chanting is transformational with multiple benefits including a peaceful state of mind. The primary instruments we use are traditional Harmonium, Mridanga (drum), and Kartal (hand cymbals). No previous experience is required to derive the benefits of this spiritual practice, also known as Bhakti Yoga. Rise n Shine - Awaken to your day of Self If you are an early riser, begin your day of self-care with a morning yoga class. Whether you need a gentler approach or move a little deeper, you will be guided through a practice that prepares your body and mind for the day ahead. We will stretch and open, linking breath and movement together incorporating some easy flow. Appropriate for all levels. 9:30am - 11am Dominique Vincenz Touch ground, invite breath, witness mind Open to all levels, this gentle practice will start with an experience of the BackMitra, connecting the

We will move at slow pace allowing an opportunity to witness the habits of the mind. This kind of practice creates space for each student to connect with their physical, emotional and mental senses from a compassion place of curiosity. By slowing down, connecting to the ground and the rhythm of breath, our yoga practice can become a mirror and a map for how to find greater balance in our daily lives off the mat. Easy like Saturday Morning Ease into your day with a deep and slow-flowing asana practice. We'll explore spaciousness in the hips, bring comfort to the low back, and nourish all the parts of you that could use a little TLC - body, mind and spirit. Heart Balm An all levels, slower-paced flow practice to warm your bones, soothe your soul and hone your most tender, and honest, attention. Expect some weight-bearing on the hands, simple, soulful threads of shapes, hip openers, side body attention, gentle backbends, and generous breathing. Exploration of the 8 Human Talents to Prevent or Overcome Burnout In this class we will explore the 8 Human Talents, based on Kundalini Guru Gurmukh s book. To Accept, Create, Will, Love, Know, Communicate & Connect in order to free us and activate the body and the mind for healing and resilience. Using Kundalini movements, Chi Kung energy cultivation exercises, Pranayama Yogic breathing techniques and Mindfulness meditation. The level of skill is for beginner to intermediate students. Variations and Restorative/resting poses will be offered. Mindful strategies to be resilient As the demands on your time and energy increase, what choices will you make? How will you stay calm and strong when the inevitable storms hit? Self-care is a practice. Discover simple and powerful methods to navigate and stay your course, and to be resilient no matter what comes your way. This is coaching style class (not movement).

3 2:30pm - 5:30pm Natalie Rousseau Radiant Ease: Summer Wisdom Practices Summer is a magical season, full of light and warmth, and yet it is also a very extroverted season that brings with it certain challenges. In this workshop we will explore the seasonal wisdom practices of Ayurveda to learn how we can align ourselves with the potent energy of summer in a way that allows us to access more radiant ease in our daily lives. This workshop will include a mix of presentation, group discussion, yoga practice, & pranayama. Participants will also receive a follow up handout and recipes for the summer season. 2:30pm - 5:30pm Farah Nazarali Temple of Light Caring for the body is a profound act of love and the foundation for all spiritual practice. When we come to know the Light within, caring for ourselves and others becomes a natural expression of who we are. This workshop includes singing, dancing, ritual, prayer, and a gentle asana practice rooted in the themes of self-love, compassion, gratitude, and devotion to the Light within. All levels, all bodies, and all parts of yourself are welcome. Living Room 2:30pm - 4:30pm Sjanie McInnis Caring for the Self, Caring for the Other Self care is essential to healthy and kind living. It also has the potential to become an end unto itself, increasingly commodified, and separating each individual from the larger whole. Sjanie will offer some analysis of this phenomenon and you will have a chance to connect with others in this discussion, developing solutions and a path for yoga moving forward in a challenging world. Though each solitary soul has its own needs, ultimately we are one and we have a responsibility to all. Lecture/discussion, no asana, all experience levels welcome. Main House 8:00pm - 9:30pm Urszula Lipsztajn Kundalini Yoga Dance Party Don't let your mind tell you that you can't. Kundalini is a dynamic, powerful practice that challenges the limitations of your mind. Sweat, dance and sing out all the stuff that's holding you back.

4 Sky House Living Room 8:00pm - 9:00pm Lori Edwards 8:00pm Yoga Nidra Please join Lori for this practice of doing nothing, which is really quite something! Yoga Nidra is guided sleep-based meditation rooted in the ancient teachings of Yoga, specifically designed to allow you to enter a sleep-like state that will take you into the deepest levels of relaxation while remaining consciously alert and awake. As the body rests in this receptive state, the body s innate ability to induce healing spontaneously and effortlessly occurs, leaving you feeling replenished and revitalized. You will leave more relaxed, integrated, expansive and present. Pajama Party Put on your pj s, grab your favourite guilty pleasure, and come curl up on the comfy couches for a relaxing evening doing less. Fire Pit 9:00pm Campfire & s mores Sunday Classes Main House 7:00am - 8:00am James Fairbanks 9:30am - 11:00am James Fairbanks Morning Meditation - Insight Meditation Practicing curiosity and affection for whatever arises is the foundation of my self-care practice. Thousands of research studies are showing how mindfulness can alter the way your brain functions in enduring ways supporting you to deal with anxiety, depression, stress, addiction... and much more - the catastrophes of everyday living! We will begin with some gentle movements, then practice a few styles of insight meditation. Morning Class - Talk with a written exercise This class will NOT be a Hatha Yoga class. Instead James will give a talk on some essential ways he is practicing self-care plus supporting staff and clients he works with to develop their own physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and communal practices. Please come prepared for an interactive class that will challenge you to perceive and listen differently.

5 11:30am - 1:00pm Lori Edwards Therapeutic Restorative Yoga Join Lori in this practise dedicated to healing, recovery, and rest. Explore the pathway to calm through gentle breath and movement followed by restorative forms. Experience the therapeutic benefits of calming the nervous system, quieting the mind, and resting the body while staying present to sensation as tension is released. You will leave the session with accessible take home practises for self-care and nourishment of the body, mind and soul. Ahhhhhhhhh 9:30am - 12:30pm Dr. Genieve Burley-Howes Anatomy and the nervous system Dr. Genieve Burley will be reviewing all of the anatomy as it relates to self-care and soothing the nervous system. Prepare to dive into anatomy, physiology and some yoga poses, all with a smile and ease. All levels of anatomy knowledge welcome, bring a notebook! 2:30pm - 4:30pm Chris Clancy 2:30pm - 4:30pm Leila Stuart Embracing Wholeness In this gentle interoceptive practice we will: explore the continuities within the body through philosophy, meditation, pranayama and asana move from parts to whole cultivate presence and open to grace Standing up for Yourself Your feet are designed to support you. When they are not in harmonious relationship with gravity, you may feel ungrounded, unsupported and off balance. The way the feet meet the ground affects alignment in the rest of the body as well as your "emotional alignment". In this class we will use experiential anatomy, gentle movement and breath to explore how "standing on your own two feet" and "standing up for yourself" are good strategies for self-care. All levels. 6 2018 Retreat Instructor Bios Suzette Birrell Suzette has been a yoga practitioner in Seattle for over 20 years. Shaped by her initial training in the Viniyoga tradition, Suzette s hatha teaching style takes a more gentle and therapeutic approach. Although she enjoys teaching all levels, her primary love is working with Prenatal and Postnatal Women. This passion directed her to train with renowned teacher Collette Crawford of Seattle Holistic Center, and with International Prenatal Instructor Janice Clarfield from Vancouver, B.C. Whatever class she leads, Suzette s goal is to improve each person s health and well being. She does this by helping students value their uniqueness, live each day finding optimal balance between effort and ease, and taking life one moment at a time. Suzette is registered with Yoga Alliance at E-RYT 200, RYT 500 and RYPT500 level. Dr. Genieve Burley A Vancouver-based chiropractor, yoga and fitness instructor. She has been a recognizable face in the yoga community both locally and internationally for 7 years. Genieve is a sought-after anatomy instructor for yoga teacher trainings, and teaches both 200 and 500 hour levels. Her love of mixing humour with knowledge allows the teachings to land a little deeper with anatomy and physiology. Genieve has spoken on topics of health and wellness in magazines, blogs, conferences and television appearances. She is passionate about yoga, as a way of life and healing, and is excited to be a part of the Yoga Outreach community this weekend. Dominique Vincenz Yoga found me over a decade ago. My first lesson was transformative. After many years of a busy life existing as a human-doing, I had become disconnected from my body. It was not until I began to practice yoga that I understood I had lost the ability just to be. Tired both physically and emotionally, yoga began to wake me up to the possibility of living a life authentic to me to learn when to slow down and rest and how to cultivate more resilience - first on my yoga mat and then in my life. Over the years, yoga has also taught me not to take myself too seriously! Ten years ago, before I began this journey I would never have imagined the gifts that I have received from yoga. I am grateful for the teachings and mentorship of many teachers along the way. I am particularly thankful to my teacher, Swan, who taught me that yoga is the practice of learning how to stay steady in the chaos of life'.

7 Christine Morita Clancy Christine Morita Clancy is a dedicated yogi who honours her calling by empowering other people to live their best lives through the practice of Vijnana Yoga and the Embodied Biotensegrity movement. She serves students who are ready to live yoga through profound experiences based in authenticity and embodiment. Her multi-faceted trainings integrate philosophy, meditation, pranayama and asana, and serve students who are looking for more than a typical yoga class or training program. Shedding the typical teacher-student hierarchy, Chris collaborative, community-focused approach encourages students to explore, share wisdom and build on their experiences. Together, the community generates new knowledge while uncovering and deepening their truths. With over 25 years of yoga experience, Chris offers the biotensegrity paradigm to yoga teachers and movement professionals through her Embodied Biotensegrity Training. She is a lead trainer for Vijnana Yoga International, is a faculty member at Karma Teachers college and offers workshops and retreats both at home and abroad. Christine Price Clark Mother, teacher, and mentor, Christine has been teaching 13+ years; a journey that began in New York and landed her (back) in Vancouver in Her classes reflect a passion and respect for both rhythmic, fluid movement, and strong, focused attention. Pairing precision in alignment instruction with artful language, she works to create a space where you are both safe to feel, and supported to grow. She is regarded as a teacher who speaks openly and honestly about the full spectrum of the human experience; able to offer relevant teachings from both the ancient and the everyday. Natalie Rousseau A passionate student of yoga, Ayurveda, earth-based wisdom teachings, and meditation. She has been teaching since 2002 and lives in Pemberton BC. You can expect her classes to be skilfully structured and infused with the teachings that inspire her most, namely the power of practice, the wisdom of nature, and the wonder of living an ordinary life lit up through mindful presence.

8 Urszula Lipsztajn An international life coach, guide, speaker and author at urszula.co. After a near burnout experience, Urszula left a dream job to pursue her calling. With over 10,000 hours of people development, she now runs an impact business specializing in self-actualization. She integrates mindfulness and positive psychology as pathways for personal development and whole life fulfillment. Urszula has worked with hundreds of leaders and entrepreneurs from every sector, and for awesome brands like lululemon, Arc teryx, Yoga Outreach, and Simon Fraser University. Known for her powerful, simple approach to transformation, Urszula s workshops and coaching programs are guided by a simple question: do you want to thrive? Leila Stuart Leila Stuart BA, LLB, C-IAYT, is a Registered Massage Therapist and has loved, practiced and taught yoga for over 40 years. Leila developed and taught an innovative and cutting edge training for 15 years; the Anatomy of Yoga Therapy focused on experiential anatomy, alignment and movement repatterning, and embodiment of the deeper teachings of yoga as pathways to self-healing. She now offers these topics and principles in articles, workshops and online trainings. With a deep love and intuitive knowledge of experiential anatomy, Leila specializes in transforming academic information into kinesthetic intelligence and life changing experience. She recently wrote Pathways to A Centered Body, co- authored with Donna Farhi, and is presently working on her second book. Leila teaches in Canada and internationally as well as as online for for Yoga U Online. Farah Nazarali Yoga has transformed everything about my life. Yoga is who I am and how I show up. Most of all, through yoga, I am able to cultivate a sense of harmony and happiness that is not dependent on anyone or anything. Happiness, peace, and joy are an inside job and yoga is the path to get there. Farah Moolji Nazarali is the Founder and Producer of Drishti Point Yoga Podcasts and The Smiling Yogi, a BC-based business dedicated to spreading joy, health and wellness. Farah skillfully weaves yoga philosophy, Buddhist wisdom, and conflict resolution research and theory into her classes and workshops. She is known for her ability to encourage and inspire people to be their best. When she s not teaching, she produces podcasts for Banyen Books and Sound, and Hollyhock Learning Center.

9 James Fairbanks M.Ed., M.Sc. James has practiced many styles of yoga for over forty years and taught for over 30. He works as the Clinical Manager at Kinghaven Treatment Centre, a residential facility for over 60 men wanting to live free from substance misuse. Self-care has been essential as a therapist but especially working in addictions since well over 30 clients have overdosed in the past couple of years. Plus, my greatest personal challenge - and gift - has been caring for my mother dying at home with my family from dementia. It is the best thing that I have done for years yet has really challenged me to deepen my engagement with life. Mariana Perea In 2015, I collapsed and the doctors told me that I will probably died because of the chronic stress that I was living in. My brain and my body decided to make me stop. I was a 33 year old overweight depressed woman, neurotic, unhappy that couldn t handle more stress, focus or make decisions. After 2 years of self-compassion and self-care, I m free. I m free to do what truly makes me happy. I learned how to let go and embrace my present life. I speak my truth and I love unconditionally! I m committed to sharing yoga as an ongoing life transformation, a pathway to our embodied true self and connect with the divine in us. I enjoy the joyful powers of active Kundalini Yoga and the healing benefits of the stillness in Yin Yoga, Restorative & Therapeutic Yoga with a Pain Care approach in everyday practice. As a Health & Life Style Coach, I share a holistic approach to healing using food as medicine, meditation, nature, yoga, laughter and soul-fire connections. I m looking forward to sharing tools to live a life full of possibilities in the now and creating a more beautiful, sustainable and peaceful world together! Laura Track Laura is the Chair of the Yoga Outreach Board of Directors and a volunteer yoga teacher at the Pacifica Treatment Centre. Laura has been practicing yoga for over 15 years, and obtained her teacher s certification in Inspired by the transformative and healing influence of yoga in her own life, Laura has always sought to share yoga with those around her. She serves as a volunteer teacher at the YWCA and YMCA in Vancouver, and has been involved with Yoga Outreach for over a decade.

10 Sjanie McInnis Sjanie has been blessed with yoga from all sides: still+moving, hot+cool, reverent+unattached. Sjanie began teaching in Vancouver in 2004 and is a member of the Vancouver School of Yoga faculty. She currently instructs public classes at many Vancouver studios as well as offering private instruction and mentorship to her fellow teachers. Sjanie lives in East Vancouver where she raises her twins with her partner Morgan, an artist and musician. Lori Edwards The deeper I go, the more I have to share Lori s yogic journey began as a student of Yoga Outreach while working through recovery from PTSD and addiction. The experience was profoundly empowering and yoga became a key component of her healing. Lori stepped onto the teacher s mat through a deep eight-month teacher training on the Sunshine Coast and continued on to train with Yoga Outreach in Trauma -informed Yoga. In 2014, Lori founded EmpowerYoga, dedicated to Trauma Sensitive Yoga programs and workshops in Mental Health and Addictions and Community Services. Lori is currently completing Certification in TCTSY (April) with the Trauma Center in Brookline Mass., under the direction of David Emerson. She has presented and shared this practise in Ottawa with the Mental Health Commission, and is currently working with community organizations and agencies to expand EmpowerYoga programs and workshops in her community and beyond. Lori is (100 hr) certified in the Amrit Method of Yoga Nidra, and a graduate of Langara College s Therapeutic Yoga for Pain Management. She completed her nine month, 500 hour Advanced Teacher Training in 2017, including direct study with Yogi Amrit Desai at the Amrit Yoga Institute. Lori offers ongoing Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra classes at Yoga by the Sea on the Sunshine Coast. Lori s deep gratitude for Yoga Outreach is with her every day-both on and off the mat. Kirtan Vancouver Kirtan Vancouver is a non-profit organization run by a group of friends who love kirtan! Like most people, we are immersed in lives of career, family and responsibilities that don't always allow us the time to get together and share in our spiritual practice. For this reason, many years ago we created an initiative to meet and chant together a couple times a month. We enjoyed it so much that in 2010 we decided to start an official organization to share this practice with people all over Vancouver. Now we have a whole community of wonderful people who meet with us regularly for all kinds of Kirtan events! None of our directors and organizers are paid. We love to volunteer our time as an offering and we only accept donations to keep the events going and growing.
