1 A YOGA CELEBRATION DAY Sunday 8 th July 2018 I am excited to announce, for the forth year running, the Stockbridge YOGA CELEBRATION DAY, with inspirational teachers, on Sunday 8 th July Once again, this will be an exciting event with local teachers to celebrate YOGA with many styles of classes and taster sessions. Whether you are a yoga teacher, yoga practitioner or new to yoga and curious, come along and try out one class or stay for the whole event and enjoy several sessions hosted by an experienced group of teachers. It will be fun, relaxed and friendly. Everyone is welcome; men, women, teens. of all levels. The event will take place in the fabulous Stockbridge Town Hall, just a few miles outside of Winchester, Andover and Salisbury. Stockbridge, a former market town in Hampshire s Test Valley, has a wide and attractive High Street, free parking with lots of shops and cafes. This draws in many who come to enjoy a walk, a snack and a browse among the shops. I look forward to welcoming you on the day and sharing this FANTASTIC event with you. 3 Amy Taylor: About: Amy has been practicing a variety of styles of yoga for a number of years and has always been interested in health and fitness and the positive effect this brings upon people's lives. Amy initially started yoga to help with super tight hamstrings from long distance running and not enough stretching. She never imagined yoga would take such a hold on her, but instantly fell in love and could not get enough of it. So much so that she packed her bags and headed off to India to complete her 200hour YTT (Yoga Teacher Training). Amy is a qualified in Ashtanga/Vinyasa Flow, Kriya s, Pranayama, Pre & Postnatal yoga and Barre Ballet. She is extremely passionate about sharing her love of yoga and welcome's anyone to her classes whether its for tight muscles, physical fitness, mental tranquillity or just to try something new. Class Description: Ashtanga Inspired Flow: This class will be a strength based, energetic flow working all muscle groups, bringing fun to your practice and warmth to your body! Bridget Pallas: About: Bridget began teaching yoga 9 years ago in New York and quite unexpectedly, this journey took her around Central America, India and Europe to where she now resides in Hampshire. Several back surgeries in recent years created quite a shift for Bridget when she was told that she may have to live on medications as further surgeries wouldn t help her to be more mobile. As a stubborn NY er she wouldn t accept this so looked for other solutions and discovered the ancient Chinese energy work Qigong. Bridget jumped at the chance to train under a Zen Master in the rigorous Rinzai lineage. Bridget is now specializing in qigong, mindfulness and meditation, helping people to look inward for solutions using the body s energy and focus to bring calmness, to relieve stress and to ease pain. Class Description: Zen Yoga & Qigong: Come and explore the ancient practices of the samurai with qigong and Dan Tian breathing meditation. We will work our energy lines for this summer season which can help you to feel a sense of abundance and groundedness. Gemma Nash: THE TEACHERS continued About: I found yoga or yoga found me and from the start I fell in love with the practice and the way it makes me feel. Forever enjoying the journey and learning something new every day I practice and share with others every element of Yoga I can. I am passionate about how we can keep our bodies and minds in the best possible health for the happiest and most fulfilling lives possible. Class Description: Yamuna Body Rolling - Yamuna Body Rolling - Is a method of self-healing that uses balls of differing sizes and densities to elongate muscles and create tone and flexibility. It gives an incredible sense of going inwards, awareness of your own body and movement that leaves you feeling deeply relaxed and calm. The perfect companion to all forms of yoga practice.

4 Helen Portas: About: Having practised yoga all her life, Helen made the move from classroom teaching to teaching yoga full time after training at Yoga Campus and establishing LIM yoga. The varied teaching styles she experienced at Campus are reflected in her own classes which are breath-led; creative; fluid and fun! Helen firmly believes yoga should be accessible to all ages and abilities and teaches Chair Yoga and Yoga for Palliative care as well as mat-based classes. Class Description: Slow Flow Spacious Body, Open Mind - Explore creating space in both body and mind in this breath centred, slow flow practice. When we create space in our lives; in our bodies and in our hearts, we can open ourselves up to inviting in calmness and creativity and encouraging us to dwell in the present and 'Honour the space between no longer and not yet. (Nancy Levin). Jake White: About: With over 1000 hours of trainings under his belt, Jake Paul White has been studying the art of movement for over 10 years. With keen attention to detail and an obsession for fluidity in movement, Jake builds his classes on two principles : balance and creativity. He believes that balance and unification between the mind and body is the key component to any class, while creativity allows for the freedom of self-expression. Jake is also highly trained in alignment and adjustments to make any student whether a beginner or an expert feel safe and comfortable in class. Class Description: Inspired Vinyasa Jake will take you on a journey of inspirational yoga which will both challenge and delight. Expect inversions, arm balances, familiar and yet some less familiar poses in a surrounding of creativity and self-expression. Jo Dowey: About: Jo Dowey trained with the highly acclaimed founder of Sun Power Yoga Anne-Marie Newland and is also registered as an Experienced Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance International. Jo teaches inspirational yoga Vinyasa (flow) classes that include a unique blend of several innovative styles of yoga that is geared to all abilities. Classes are designed to awaken your playful spirit to help take your practice to a whole new level of strength and openness. Class Description: Fluid Flow - Expect a fluid flow inspired yoga session that is deep, dynamic and informative. Through unique, creative and evolving sequences you will be encouraged to discover what your body is capable of in a playful, non-competitive way. You will leave feeling invigorated, open and grounded with a deeper connection to your Self. Class Description: Yin & Deep tissue release Recover and relax and experience the effect of Yin related Yoga on your body using props including a tennis ball and blocks. These techniques will help with flexibility and release tension and muscular discomfort. Anyone can do it! Afterwards, you ll notice a difference. THE TEACHERS continued

5 Leela Hunt: About: Leela has been teaching yoga and meditation for around 9 years. She completed her teacher training at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in the Bahamas, where she spent a prolonged period of time studying and practising the yoga of synthesis (Jnana, Bhakti, Karma and Raja). Since then she has taught around the world including New York, The Bahamas, Portugal and London. As well as teaching, Leela works in the NHS and is also a fully qualified therapist. She explains that Yoga can really help those who are going through difficult times. The body and mind must work together to process our experience of life. Class Description: The Sivananda Experience - The Sivananda system works on increasing the vitality, strength and relaxation of both the body and mind. Leela invites practitioners to tap into their own inner experience of the Asana, to find stillness and space and a greater sense of peace. Asana variations are given in mixed ability classes. Nikki Lewis: About: Nikki has a passion for movement and exploring the connection between body, mind and soul. She has been practising yoga formally for about 10 years but has instinctually explored Asana since childhood believing passionately that yoga is our natural state. With training based in Ashtanga and Vinyasa her teaching style incorporates a dynamic flowing practice with a strong sense of personal enquiry. Nikki encourages students to connect with their own body working with integrity to explore the self, listening, learning, healing and nourishing the soul. Class Description: Open your heart - A flowing heart opening practice designed to open the chest, release tension in the shoulders and break down some of the layers or Koshas that we build up within the subtle body, ultimately creating space for the heart. This will be a fairly dynamic, flowing class but modifications and variations will be offered to suit all. Come with a willingness to push the boundaries of your comfort zone and all the benefits are coming your way! Stella Tomlinson: About: Stella Tomlinson is a Dru yoga & meditation teacher, using her first-hand experience of how yoga can relieve stress and anxiety to teach those of us who often feel anxious and overwhelmed how to connect to inner strength, stillness and joy to find peace amidst the demands of everyday life. Stella teaches weekly classes, monthly workshops and 1-2-1s in Southampton & Eastleigh. Class Description: Calm Space: Yoga, Relaxation & Mindfulness - Come into a calm space of joyful ease, contentment and stillness. Release tension with simple flowing movements; rest with a blissful guided deep relaxation; and reconnect your body, breath, mind & soul with mindfulness meditation. THE TEACHERS continued

6 Tamsin Kelly: About: Tamsin has been practising yoga for more than 20 years and teaching for 10. She qualified with the British Wheel of Yoga in 2009 before studying to become a Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs teacher in She owns and runs Studio Yoga, near Stockbridge, where she teaches general Hatha style classes and the specialist Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs course - a clinically proven programme, shown to be effective for improving and preventing chronic low back pain in the largest research trial on yoga to date, worldwide. Tamsin teaches adults and kids from age three upwards and believes yoga provides skills for life, no matter how old you are. Class Description: Yoga for heathy lower backs This session will you give you an introduction to a specialist yoga course, developed to reduce the incidence of chronic low back pain. The programme was successfully tested in a randomised controlled trial conducted by York University and funded by Arthritis Research UK. Suitable for beginners and those with previous yoga experience

7 DIRECTIONS Stockbridge Town Hall, High Street, Stockbridge, SO20 6HE - Directions: Stockbridge lies at the junction of the A30 and the A3057 both of which can be accessed from the A303. The southbound A3057 leads to Romsey. he B3049 from Winchester joins the A30 and A3057 in a large roundabout at the east end of the town. To the west the A30 leads to Salisbury. The Town Hall is a major feature on the south side of the High Street. Parking: There is no specific parking for the Town Hall itself but plenty near-by as shown in the map. The wide High Street in Stockbridge allows free parking on both sides and also on the off roads where it is legal. I have also arranged with the Bodybarn (SO20 6EZ) at the top end of the High Street, to have the use of their carpark. If you park here, please don t obstruct any other vehicle. Plus, you will also notice, slightly beyond the Bodybarn, is the bus park area for Test Valley school. You may be able to find a few spaces up there, as the school will be closed.
