3 I 10-2s I RECKNER As far as can be determined neither the Reckners nor the Kauffers had a presence in Germany prior to the end of the Thirty Years War. Like so many of the families who inhabited the Kraigau after the war these families probably had emigrated there from Switzerland. One of the early entries (3 March 1652) in the Kirchardt, Baden, Germany, church book was for the service as sponsor by Anna Catharina Reckner, at the baptism of Anna Catharina, daughter of Wolfgang Bender and his wife Margretha Bullinger. Anna Catharina Reckner was identified as the legitimate daughter of Hans Georg Reckner. No attempt has been made by this compiler to trace these families before the beginning of the Kirchardt church book in 1650.

6 10-31 SAXER/SACHER Hans Sax.er was probably baptized 18 November 1642 at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Altstiitten, St. Gallen, Switzerland. He was the son of Uli Sax.er and Barbara Schaubing. 1 Hans Sax.er of Hinterforst married Catharina W allter, daughter of Hans W allter of Marbach 7 Jan There are so many Saxers with the same given names in the Altstiitten parish records that positive identification is difficult. It is possible that with careful study of these records the Sax.er and W allter lines could be established back several generations. While living in the Altstiitten parish Hans and Cathrina (Wallter) Sax.er had two sons baptized there.3 Sometime between 1674 and 1677 Hans and Catharina moved to Richen, Baden, Germany, where daughter Veronica was baptized 11 September By the time of Veronica's marriage to Hans George Klein in the neighboring village of Kirchardt on 5October1700, her father Hans Sax.er was deceased. 5 The widowed Catharina (Wallter) Sax.er appears to have married someone surnamed "Hatz," as on 8 December 1697 Veronica Sax.er acted as sponsor to a child of Hans Willhellm Hatz. Veronica is referred to as "the child's father's stepsister. " 6 1 Parish records of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Altstiitten, St. Gallen, Switzerland (no page numbers).
