1 Ashtabula County Compiled by Charlotte Stewart, Formatted by Nancy Mehaffie History Northern Ohio was considered to be part of the land grant given to Connecticut, which said it extended from its eastern boundary westward with no limit. New York and Pennsylvania already had land claimed for some distance, so it was called the "Connecticut Western Reserve" when surveyed and settled from Connecticut. 1 Ashtabula County was formed in 1806 from Trumbull and Geauga Counties. The County Courthouse is located at 25 W. Jefferson St. Jefferson, Ohio , Telephone Probate Court has birth and death records from 1867 to 1908, marriage records from 1811, probate records from 1800 s, Health Dept has birth and death records from 1909, Clerk of courts has divorce records from 1811, civil court records from 1800 s and county Recorder has land records from Ashtabula County Genealogical Society, Inc.
