We are grateful to those who have built up St. Januarius to be a welcoming, active, and spiritual parish. With the Eucharist and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we strive to use the gifts and talents given to us by the Father to support the lives of parishioners at all age levels and stages of life. We also pledge to live our lives so that through our words and actions all may feel the presence of Jesus Christ in the world today. JESUS AND THE DEVIL The devil tempted Jesus by quoting scripture, as today's Gospel reminds us. Try a self-serving miracle. Try selling out. Try dazzling the audience; people are gullible, after all. Try all these easy ways. The tempter tries to urge Jesus onto the slippery slope, attempts the old soft-soap, the snake-oil solutions that are always readily at hand. The devil knows better, but is powerless to do better, much less be better. The devil is evil personified, who senses in Jesus the stronger, truly attractive presence of holiness. Evil is exposed and engaged, we are reminded in this Sunday's Gospel. Evil knows the jig is up. The undoing of lies begins with Jesus, who takes up the work of soul-healing and world-healing. 2 Page 2 This past week we had the Rectory roof inspected again. There is an immediate need to address the roof and the A/C unit All resources from the Capital Campaign will be directed to this project, as the necessity of this being done supersedes any other project at this time. Lenten companions have been ordered and should be here shortly for you to use during Lent. Stations of the Cross will begin this Friday at 7:00 p.m. Renton Fire Department Fish Fry will be every Friday during Lent from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can eat in, take out and delivery service is also available. Thank you to everyone who pledged towards the 2015 Parish Share Goal. Our 2016 Parish Share goal we have this year is $26,755. Letters will be sent out to each parishioner, included will also be a pledge card and return envelope. Anything which is collected over the goal is tax free and remains here at our parish. Its purpose is declared to be: "World Marriage Day honors husband and wife as the foundation of the family, the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life. Wednesday: The Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order - The Servite Order is one of the five original Catholic mendicant orders. Its objects are the sanctification of its members, preaching the Gospel, and the propagation of devotion to the Mother of God, with special reference to her sorrows. The members of the Order use O.S.M. (for Ordo Servorum Beatae Mariae Virginis) as their post-nominal letters. The male members are known as Servite Friars or Servants of Mary. The Order of Servants of Mary (The Servites) is a religious family that embraces a membership of friars (priests and brothers), contemplative nuns, a congregation of active sisters and lay groups. 5 First Sunday of Lent, February 14, 2016 Around Our District ROSARY FOR LIFE - Knights of Columbus will be conducting it s annual Rosary for Life. The Joyful Mysteries decade will be recited at a different parish each week. Will begin with a time of reflection and prayer, followed by Joyful Mysteries decade. Will commence on Thursdays at 7:00 pm. By the grace of God this prayer group has been spending an hour with Jesus for over ten years. This Lenten season, please com and enjoy the hour of Peace and Serenity with us. FREE EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR FAMILIES LIVING WITH MENTAL ILLNESS: The NAMI Family-to-Family Program is a 12 session education program for family and friends of adults who are living with mental illness. It is sponsored by NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania and is offered at no cost to participants. Not only does the course provide critical information and strategies, but you also find out that you are not alone and there is hope for recovery.
