Happy New Year! I trust everyone had a healthy and wonderful Holiday. We are ready to go back to work in the quarries. There are many special events planned for the upcoming year. More information will be here in the Valley Voice and in Reflections e-blasts. lease make sure your contact information with is correct in your file. Go to the website ScottishRiteNMJ.org, log in to the membership portal, and review your file. The Nominating Committee will be interviewing candidates for new officers, board members, and committees this month. We are always looking for members to get involved. You want to see something happen in the Valley, get involved. Contact Roger D. Moore, MSA, Chairman, at: rmoore4234@wowway.com for an interview. Make sure you read the information on our scholarships in this issue. If you have a child, grandchild, niece and/or nephew, even yourself, all are eligible for one of the three scholarship programs we have available. Act fast as the applications need to be turned in to the office by February 25. The applicant themselves need to the office for an application packet, tim@32nddegreemasons.org. Know a member that is ill or shut in? Contact the office, and let us know. We will have the Hospitaler call on them. Why not make a New Year s resolution to make at least one meeting or event this year? All events have a dollar value built in that reduces the cost of your dues. Usually, if you attend a reunion and one or two events, the savings we provide will cover the cost of a year s dues. Keep in mind the Valley of Detroit Endowment Fund we started last year. For a nominal fee, your benefit is paid up dues for the rest of your life. Over 150 members have taken advantage of this program last year. You can buy into it at any time. Call the office for more details. Copyright 2018 Board of Trustees of the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valley of Detroit
3 January Valley Meeting TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2019, 7:30.M. Following the usual business portion of the evening, we will have a presentation by Jennifer Baross, resident of the arducci Society, on Corrado arducci. WHO IS CORRADO ARDUCCI? Corrado arducci is mostly referred to as an architectural sculptor, however, I think a proper title would simply be designer. These days, he would probably best be known as an Industrial Designer, with having designed countless commissions of architectural sculpture, interior plaster work and bronze work. Examples of his work may be seen in the Detroit Masonic Temple. Additionally, he designed hub caps for Budd Wheel, and bumper designs for Hudson Motor Car Company. In his personal time, he sculpted busts of Greek and Roman figures from antiquity, painted intricate patterns on the walls of his home and even wove tapestries. arducci was revered by many architects who wanted him to work on their most exclusive projects both in Detroit, Michigan, and nationally. Because of arducci s training at New York s Beaux-Arts Institute of Design (BAID) and the Arts Students League, he was able to quickly see the architect s vision for a space. Many times, the architect would provide a set of architectural drawings to arducci where blank spaces had been left for him to fill in his designs. By working with arducci, this would free up the architect s draughtsmen for other things. rior to this, the draughtsmen would furnish full scaled drawings of sculpture, ornamentation, or even doorknobs and window casings. It s important to remember that during the early 20th century, everything was custom made for each architectural project. There was no Sweet s Catalogue, whereas even arducci said, today we design by number. This presentation is open to all. Reservations are a must and may be made online at32nddegreemasons.org or by calling the office at: HAVE YOU CONSIDERED BECOMING AN OFFICER FOR THE VALLEY OF DETROIT? The Nominating Committee is looking for a few good men. There are openings for Valley officers, committee chairs and members as well as stage, actors, robing and techs. Call the office at: or send an to Brother Roger D. Moore, MSA, Chairman of Nominating, at rmoore4234@wowway.com.
