Living Generously Giving Tree Story As our giving tree leaves continue to multiply, I found a leaf that simple said others. I asked Nelson Crisp to tell her story. Here s a real life example of giving and the connection it can help nurture. Many years ago Grandmother decided to leave her beautiful diamond ring to her first grandchild, Caroline (Nelson s niece). The years passed and Caroline, a teenager, came to visit Grandmother. All she brought to wear were ragged blue jeans and tee-shirts. Grandmother was horrified as she had planned to take Caroline to visit friends and neighbors; but what would they say when they saw Caroline so disreputably dressed. Visits were cancelled and Grandmother changed her will. She removed Caroline s name and replaced it with Florence Amanda (Nelson s daughter), her youngest granddaughter, Caroline s cousin. Again years passed and Grandmother died. When Caroline learned she was not receiving the beautiful diamond ring, she was devastated. Fortunately, Florence Amanda gave up her right to the ring and handed it to Caroline. Now she and Caroline have a very close relationship, communicate often, have close ties with their children and grandchildren and share many visits. Furthermore Caroline has promoted an enduring and loving relationship with all her North Carolina family from half a continent away. Maybe the ring was not the catalyst, but it was certainly a kind and generous act. Nelson Crisp Consecration Sunday is this Sunday, November 11. Our Presbyter Rev. Ted Churn will be our guest preacher. We have one worship service at 11:00 followed by a Celebration Luncheon. The nursery will remain open through lunch. It is a joy to be one of your pastors. Our updated Mission Study has been approved by our Session and sent on to the Commission on Ministry of New Hope Presbytery. Our FPC Nominating Committee is working on forming a slate of members to serve on our Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC.) We have a Congregational Meeting called on Sunday, November 18, for the election of the PNC. Just as soon as we hear from Presbytery on the Mission Study, the search for our new pastor will formally commence. On another matter: please remember that there will only be one worship service this coming Sunday, November 11, at 11:00 am. Our guest preacher will be the Executive Presbyter of New Hope Presbytery, Dr. Ted Churn. The purpose for holding this single service is so all of our church may be able to attend the Consecration Luncheon to be held in the Fellowship Hall immediately following worship. We already have 215 reservations for the luncheon! If you ve not yet made your reservation, you may contact Janice at the church office. And one last reminder: we will be taking photos for our upcoming Pictorial Directory this week. The photos will be taken here at the church Tuesday through Saturday. Note that because we have had so many sign up, we have been given an extra day for photos Tuesday, December 11 th! So you can still be included. A sign-up sheet for the 11 th is available in the Welcome Center. Questions concerning any of the above: feel free to give me a call. Prayers are welcome and needed! Dave
