1 The Service of Worship Second Sunday after Epiphany January 20, :00 a.m. Chiming of the Hour Greetings and Welcome The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you. Opening Voluntary All Praise to Jesus, Hallowed Name, BuvWV 189 Dietrich Buxtehude Concerns and Celebrations of the Church Fellowship Registration Please pass the fellowship pad found at the end of the row, record information, and return the pad to its starting point. Then please remove sheet and place in the offering plate when it is passed. Moment for Mission Introit Let the Whole Creation Cry Presbyterian Women SALZBURG *Call to Worship How do we respond to the grace of God? We rejoice in the Good News of Jesus Christ, and seek to proclaim and practice Christ s Way with lives of discipleship! How do we fulfill this glorious challenge? We reach out to our God for strength and courage. Yea, we count on our God to strengthen us and dare to believe our God will always be with us! Let us worship God! *Hymn #331 God of the Ages, Whose Almighty Hand NATIONAL HYMN *Prayer of Confession O Lord, our God, so often we take our potential for graceful and faithful living, and leave it undeveloped, as if survival and existence are all that we can do. Abundance you have offered to us freely, but we choose to live as if there is not enough. We fail to recognize not just the needs of others, but also our need to worship, pray, serve, and give. We declare ourselves to be selfsufficient and capable of living without you. We lower ourselves. We do not trust. We do not hope. So Merciful God, we ask for your grace, yet again. Remind us that we can care for others, as you have cared for us. Remind us that compassion and hope do bring about abundance that demonstrates the reality of your glory. Show us that you do forgive us when we stop the foolishness and repent before your glory. Forgive us of our sins, O Lord! Hear now our silent prayers of confession...
2 *Period of Silent Prayer In our Savior s name we pray. Amen. *Assurance of Pardon Hear the good news from Psalm 32: Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. I acknowledged my sin to you; I did not hide my iniquity from you. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, then you did forgive the guilt of my sin. We praise God for the gift of Grace! We strive to practice the Grace of God in our daily lives. *Congregational Response #447 We Are Forgiven WE ARE FORGIVEN We are forgiven. We are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Thanks be to God. We are forgiven. We are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Thanks be to God. Scripture Lesson Psalm 51:1-13 pew Bible, OT, page 492 The Word of the Lord. large print, page 520 Thanks be to God. Ages four through six are invited to participate in Godly Play in Room 113 following A Time for Young Disciples. Scripture Lesson Matthew 4:12-17 pew Bible, NT, page 3 The Word of the Lord. large print, page 3 Thanks be to God. Sermon Scripture s Two Greatest Sinners Dave McNeilly Invitation to Discipleship To speak with someone about becoming a Christian, church membership or a special prayer need, please go to the parlor following this service. The room is to the right of the Fellowship Hall. *Affirmation of Faith Apostles Creed (ecumenical) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *Hymn #792 There Is a Balm in Gilead BALM IN GILEAD
3 Prayers of the People and the Lord s Prayer (using sins and sin) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. The Offering Offertory Andante Sostenuto *Doxology with Alleluias Robert Lau LASST UNS ERFREUEN Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ all people here below; Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise Holy Spirit evermore, Praise Triune God, whom we adore. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! *The Prayer of Dedication *Hymn #749 Come! Live in the Light!
