The Sacrament is administered to the living. In the event of death prayers are offered. 3 SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, My god-daughter just graduated from college and with graduation season upon us, here are four pieces of advice for both high school and college graduates (and reminders for all of us, in any stage of life). 1. Ask God to speak to you through His Word. Something I encourage you to do every day is to go before the Lord and say, God, open your Word to me, and open my heart to your Word. Let Your book always be very important to me not simply as words on a page, but as a tool of your indwelling Holy Spirit. Evaluate your spiritual life and ask Him to speak to you through His Word, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, to give you the ability to live a life that is pleasing to Him. 2. Seek to do everything to God s glory. First Corinthians 10:31 says, So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. Isn t that interesting? It doesn t say, Whether you spend time in the Word, evangelize, go out in foreign missions, pray, and attend church, do it all to the glory of God. (Though those things are certainly important.) No it says to glorify Him when you re eating and drinking and in every other simple, basic thing. Don t draw a line in your life between the secular and the sacred. Your whole life should be one of devotion to Him, so that when you re working in a mundane job, playing sports, listening to music whatever you re doing you ll be doing it for Christ s glory. 3. Remind yourself of God s promises and your responsibility before Him. Throughout the day, continually remind yourself that Christ is in You, He is with you, and He has promised you an eternity with Him. Remember that Christ has given you gifts and a sphere of influence, and He s entrusted money and material things to you that He calls upon you to share with others. Ask Him to use you as His vessel wherever you go and in whatever you do. 4. Make it all about Jesus. He says that if you want to save your life, you re going to lose it (Matthew 16:25). If everything you do is all about you and making your life the way you want it, you re in danger of following the rich fool s example (Luke 12:13-21). But Jesus says that if you lose your life for His sake, you ll find it. That s the fulfilling life of following Christ. And remember to pray well, pray hard, pray often, save souls and don t lose yours in the process. And tell the Devil to go to Hell. AMEN Wish All Y all a God glorious week. 5 SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Congratulations to young parishioner Justin Flynn for receiving Eagle Scout honors this weekend. His Eagle Scout project was completed last summer at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the beautiful wooden benches located in the back of the church. Great job! Prayer Blanket Ministry Meetings are held on Saturdays from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Contact Janice by Next meeting is Saturday, May 26th, 2018 New members are always welcome. Come join this exciting ministry we create prayer blankets, lap robes, baby blankets, preemie hats, Christmas stockings, pink scarves, etc. and donate them to various organizations, nursing homes, etc. We also share ideas, patterns and offer instruction for anyone wishing to learn to knit or crochet or brush up on their skills. 9 SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER From the Pastor s Desk May the glory of the Easter Season lift you, mind and heart, to God s Love! As the Easter Season continues, God shares with us more of His glorious gifts! This past week we celebrated Ascension Thursday, a holy day of obligation. That was the day when Jesus, having risen from the dead, ascends to Heaven to take his place, in full divinity, on the throne of God beside his Father and the Holy Spirit: three divine persons, one Almighty God. Today s Gospel from St. John describes when Jesus is just about to ascend to heaven. He has prepared his Apostles. They have been with Jesus from the beginning, have witnessed his life, suffering, death and resurrection. They will now witness his ascension, in full divinity, to the Father in Heaven. He consecrates them in the truth, and commissions them to carry the fullness of the truth into the world. They do not belong to the world, but to the truth of God. The world will hate them, but God loves them! We, likewise, must not hope in our hearts that the world will love us. If we stay true to God, the world will hate us. And it does. The world embraces sin, superiority and self-satisfaction, and calls it good. They say that our teachings, the teachings of God, are old fashioned and hateful. However, we know that God s teachings are truth and love. Truth never gets old; it has no fashion. God s truths of humanity and goodness are true even now. Moreover, God s love is never hateful. He gives us freedom, but this does not mean that we are free to embrace sin and unholiness. We are made in God s image; we are made for holiness. When we pursue unholy things, we eat away at ourselves on a basic level. When we embrace unholiness, we are literally killing ourselves! The world is killing itself. It embraces sin, and the wages of sin are death. Our Lord has paid the price of our sin to free us from death, but we must release our grip on sin! We must leave sin behind. Therefore, we must leave the world behind. However, we are not strong enough to walk away from sin on our own. The Holy Spirit is our source of strength. He comes to us in a special way on Pentecost Sunday! The Third Person of God came to the Apostles as a tongue of fire on Pentecost to bring holiness and understanding, and to support all that Christ has taught. We receive the Holy Spirit at Baptism, and more fully at the sacrament of Confirmation. He embraces us, guides us and leads us to truth. He enables us to abandon sin and turn to holiness. The Holy Spirit has guided the teaching of the Catholic Church over the years and protects it from error. Pentecost, however, is always new, every year! Let us prepare ourselves this coming week for the resurgence of the Holy Spirit in our lives on Pentecost Sunday. Let us pray to Him, welcome Him, embrace Him and choose to live our lives to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our souls. Praise God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Blessings and Peace! Fr. We delivered or served more than 550,000 meals to senior citizens and young families. Parish outreach centers, including our food pantries, assisted more than 100,000 families. Our Office of Hospital Ministry served more than 300,000 people in local hospitals. 12,000 volunteer Catechists taught Religious Education to more than 110,000 of our children in public schools. In our 133 Parishes there were more than 17,000 Baptisms, 17,000 First Communions, 19,000 Confirmations and 3,000 Weddings. We provided safe and affordable housing for struggling seniors through 15 housing facilities with more than 1,200 affordable apartments. Our parish received a cash rebate of more than $12,000 which helped to offset expenses needed to maintain our building and to fund the many programs we offer. Please consider making a pledge to this most worthy charity. We need the help of every parish family to reach our goal of $52,300. You have until January 31, 2019 to pay off your pledge. No down payment is necessary. The Diocese will send monthly reminders. Keep in mind this is not a legal document. If you feel you cannot keep up your payments, simply discontinue them. Let s support Fr. Richard in his first CMA campaign, by making a pledge to this years Catholic Ministries Appeal. The programs and services supported by the Appeal have a significant impact on hundreds of thousands of parishioners throughout our Diocese. Whatever you are able to give, large or small, will be accepted gratefully. Please keep in mind your gift is payable over ten months. 13 SUNDAY, May 13th, 2018 Parish Outreach Ministry Food Pantry: Thank you for the non-perishable food that was donated this week. At present Outreach is in need of mustard, coffee, instant potatoes and cereal. Blood Drive: As a result of our 2 nd blood drive of the year that was held on Sunday, April 29, 2018, 47 pints of blood were collected. The day was a success and the New York Blood Center thanks all who participated. Our 3 rd and last Blood Drive of the year will take place on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 8:45-2:45. Please keep that date open and help save lives by the gift of your blood.
