1 1 P a g e June 2017 Mt. Pleasant Church Volume XVII, No. 6 0 I Don t Always Want To See The Truth Has this ever happened to you? You hear a good sermon about grace, marriage, sin, gossip or forgiveness and the first thing you think is, So and so really needs to hear this! Sound familiar? Instead of using Scripture as a mirror, we often use it as a magnifying glass to point out faults in others, the very ones we might struggle with ourselves. It's not easy to look in the mirror, to look inward and face our own sin. Focusing on others negative qualities is much easier and makes us feel better. The problem is we deceive ourselves into thinking we re fine when we re not. This blame game has been going on since the beginning of time, when Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent (Genesis 3:12). But in James 1:22-25, we re given the perfect prescription for this sickness: Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. Don t be afraid to face the truth, even when it is in the mirror. It may be painful for a moment, but God s grace is sufficient and offers us a peace and freedom when that truth leads to repentance. I have never been a big Michael Jackson fan, but was reintroduced to a song of his recently and it will preach. I m starting with the man in the mirror. I m asking him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer. If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change. I m starting with the man in the mirror. 3 3 P a g e Hello Mt. Pleasant Church! This has been an exciting time for the MTP Youth CREW! The Summit class (9 th -12 th grade) have moved into the new Youth Center and now we are working on decorating and getting the rest of our games and furniture moved in there! It's a work in progress, but what a blessing! Now that the Summit class has moved to the Youth Center the X-Change class (5 th -8 th grade) has moved into their old room, Room 116! However, as we consistently work to make a better learning environment for all the Youth we have decided to introduce a third Youth CREW class! Starting the first Sunday in August the Youth will still be comprised of 5 th -12 th Grade Students, however the classes will look a little different. We invite all the Youth CREW Members, Parents, and Volunteers to join us on Sunday evening, June 4 th at 6pm for some food, fellowship, and some information on the Beach Retreat, the Missions Trip, and some of the exciting changes on the way for the MTP Youth CREW!!!! The MTP Youth CREW Beach Retreat is Finally Here!!!!! Please keep all of the Youth and the Volunteers in your prayers during this time! Looking forward, July has a 5 th Sunday, which means another exciting opportunity for the MTP Youth CREW to enjoy a Thrive on the Five! Instead of going out like we normally do, this time we invite all the parents and volunteers to join us as we celebrate our Youth advancing to the next grade. July 30 th at 6pm we will celebrate the accomplishments of our Youth. Students rising into 5 th Grade will be welcomed into the MTP Youth CREW! And the students will be introduced to their Youth classes (X-Change, Vertical, and Summit)! It will be a great time of celebration, food and fun!!!! Thank you! Pastor Craig Stockwell
4 4 P a g e The MTP Youth Breakfast & Devotion has seen our largest numbers of students thus far! We have been averaging 40 students per morning, with our largest showing being 43!!! The MTP Youth CREW would like to express our gratitude to all the volunteers that come out and cook on Wednesday s as well as those that have donated food or contributed money so that food could be purchased. You are all such amazing people and examples to our young men and women! Thank you and God bless! Mission Trip Members of the Summit class (High School students) will have the opportunity to participate in our Youth Missions trip this year from July 10 th -14 th. We will be helping out with Hurricane Matthew Relief in Lumberton, NC. Please see Pastor Craig Stockwell or Teresa Hardin for more information. To register, go to MtPleasant.church/MTP-Youth

9 9 P a g e The June Outreach Offering will go to Keith Knolmayer's parents. Keith's dad was in a serious accident and his mother is under a lot of stress as she watches her husband recover - a long recovery that will probably be many months. In addition to the Outreach Offering, please continue to pray for them and their entire family. For more information, read below. Prayers do provide for healing but not in our time With each passing day, we should take time to realize the importance of FAMILY as well the importance of humility in our lives. Where days turn into weeks and weeks into months the complexity of our daily grind can get in the way of how important praying daily truly is, not only to our faith but also in times of suffering. Each family will certainly incur trials and tribulations, but through suffering we can rejoice, the Bible promises this (Romans 5:3-5). We can rejoice that we all have hope and should not cease our prayers. On April 23, 2017, our family realized the fragility of life when my Pop, affectionately known as Stumpy by the grandchildren, and two of his friends decided to head out for a motorcycle ride in sunny Florida. While riding, tragedy struck our family right to the core. Ever since, Pop has been cared for by a wonderful ICU staff at Ocala Regional Medical Center. My pop is the recipient of countless prayers, prayer blankets, cards, from all over the world. Many people have approached our family with, How is your Dad?. How should I answer, I ask myself? Well, this is where I have to think back to what my Pop has taught us over the past 40+ years. What would Pop answer with To thine own self be true. So, here is how I answer, Pop is still in the weeds, God continues to work in his healing process, and every day is a new opportunity to pray. The truth of the matter is Pop is in critical condition from his accident. Lately small improvements have been realized, which excites our entire family. The realization of these small improvements is the direct result of prayers through the gifted medical staff. Prayers are truly the way to healing the soul, a repentant heart reinforces God s grace. Most importantly, prayers are powerful, but the process of all our healing is the will of God which we must not attempt to waste time to figure it out. God transcends our thoughts. Healing is not in our time, but that at the will of God. While we pray with boldness and ask for healing, Let s keep our thoughts focused on the being a disciple for God. If we make ourselves available to the will of God, he WILL make us able. Our family would like to thank you, our church family, that means so much to us for all the thoughts, prayers, cards, kind words that which have truly been felt. Please continue to pray for our family and more importantly that God s will continue to work in healing process of my Pop. HIS will be done Keith, Paula, Austin, Corey Knolmayer
