Suddenly Lou finds herself coming of age in a new landscape, making her first true friend, and experiencing adventures tragic, comic, and audacious. 9 9 P a g e 9 9 Yo u t h M i n i s t r y Summer Mission Trips: With spring fast approaching us I can t help but think that summer is soon to follow. I want to inform you about the two mission trips that the youth will be attending this upcoming summer. The middle school students (gr.6-8) will be heading down to the Quad Cities (Rock Island, IL) July While in the Quad Cities, students will be able to partake in various service opportunities in the community. These may include helping out with a homeless shelter, food shelf, nursing home, etc. This is a great way for the students to grow in their faith and put it into action. The high school youth group will be heading down to Sautee, Georgia this summer coordinated with a group called TEAMeffot. Here students will be working in a Spanish speaking community doing home repair projects and helping to run a summer long VBS program. This trip is July 27-August 4. The youth are excited for the trips but are in need of your help to make it happen. A list of possible opportunities for you to help contribute to the youth programs and these trips is found on page 10. CONFIRMATION CAMP REGISTRATION June 9-14 Interstate Park Taylors Falls, MN Confirmation Camp is an opportunity to spend five nights camping in tents, participating in a number of fun activities, building friendships, and being stretched and challenged to grow in your faith in Christ. All Confirmation students are expected to attend camp at least once during their Confirmation years but DON T WAIT until your final year! Those who wait tend to ask themselves why they didn t go earlier so they could do it again. Registration forms are available in the Narthex or can also be found on the church website. Your total cost for a week of camp is only $150. 9
10 10 V o l u m e 1, I s s u e 1 P a g e 1 0 MISSION TRIP FUNDRAISERS!!!!! SOUP SUPPERS FOR LENT Students will be serving soup suppers during this year Lenten period. The students serve the meal and the proceeds go towards the two trips this summer. Come hungry and leave fed - not only by the great food but by the interaction with the great youth of Our Savior s. Hope to see there. KWIK TRIP CARDS ON SALE NOW Students going on mission trips this summer are selling Kwik Trip gas and car wash cards. The gas cards can be used to pay at the pump, and can also be used to buy merchandise in the stores. We will sell the cards at face value, but students earn 10% of their cost to apply to their trip. Car wash cards will sell for $30 and are good for five Ultimate car washes at any Kwik Trip car wash. You save money yourself, and students will also earn money for the trip. Starting some time in February, we will have students at a table with these cards available for you to purchase on Sunday mornings between services. PINK FLAMINGO FUNDRAISER Students have a new way to raise funds for their respective trips, called Flocking, and they need your help to make it work. For a small donation ($15 for a small flock or $30 for a large flock) members of the congregation can have the yard of a friend or neighbor flocked with plastic pink flamingos. This is a fun way for not only the youth but for the whole congregation to get involved in the action. Anyone in the Faribault area is open to having these flocks land in their yard. The only way to stop the flocks from landing in your yard is to purchase Flock Insurance. This is a one-time fee of $20 that saves your yard from these birds. The duration of this event is spring/summer. If interested in being a part of this fundraiser please visit the youth who will be at a table in the Narthex every other Sunday or call the Flamingo Flocking Hotline: ( ask for Brad or Timmy). Start plotting today where you want these birds to land. WOW Worship Wednesday Nights At 7:30 In the Chapel Followed by Youth Group In the Youth Room. 10
