1 On Becoming Missional - In 2012 April 2012 Pastor Joanna sent out a letter to all small groups in December challenging us this year to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus and to try something new to bring the love of God to the people of Faribault through our hands and feet. Faith Circle has accepted that challenge and are in the process of deciding what we can do. In one of our early studies, we learned about Stephen, a contemporary of Paul and the apostles, who became an outstanding leader, teacher, debater, and eventually a martyr for Christ. He didn t start out that way, however. One of his first jobs was as a manager of food distribution in the early church. He started small and got involved. His desire to serve God led him to use his gifts and talents; he saw a need and responded to it. His acceptance of small assignments prepared him for future and greater responsibilities in the church. Our Circle started small, looked around us for a need, and used our God given abilities to spread God s love. One of the first things we did was to gather some children s books which were then given to little ones who were patients at the Health Finder s Collaborative. Another time we drove to Northfield and participated in preparing packets of food for Feed My Starving Children. Once we pooled our donations, purchased fabric and made wraps for the women of the Sudanese congregations that Wal Reat serves. Currently our offerings are going to Basic Blessings. Sometimes our monthly offerings have gone to the Food Shelf, to the Hope Center or to Ruth s House. Whether we go on to do something as great for God as Stephen did remains to be seen, but the important thing is that we looked around, saw a need, and used our gifts to help wherever they were needed. Have questions? Need ideas? Pastor Joanna is in the know. Call her. We d like to challenge you, whether you are part of a small group or not, to look around the community for a need provide bedding plants or seeds to be distributed to those who have plots in the community garden, help prepare meals for the Community Cathedral Café, sign up for Service Sunday whatever it may be, GET INVOLVED AND GET STARTED! The exact schedule for worship style has not been completed yet but should be finalized by the May Newsletter. Summer Camp Opportunities for the whole family! Good Earth Village Summer Camp Opportunity Join Pastor Joanna for a wonderful week of outdoor ministry. If you have kids who will have completed 3 rd -9th grade who are looking for a summer adventure consider sending them to camp at Good Earth Village. July 29 th August 3 rd, Pastor Joanna along with leaders from First English Lutheran Church will be teaming up and taking a Faribault Group to Good Earth Village. There are a variety of different camping opportunities. " 3 rd and 4 th grades will participate in the Pathfinders program. They will stay at the Hilltop cabins all week and eat meals prepared in the kitchen. " 5 th and 6 th graders will participate in the Pioneer Program. This is a more rustic program where kids will stay in Old Town with no electricity they will cook their meals over an open fire. " 7 th -9 th Graders will participate in the Explorer Program staying in covered wagons and preparing meals over an open fire. Each group will participate in hiking, bible study, worship and more. There are brochures outside of Kira Anderson s office. Our congregation is a member of Good Earth Village. You should register through Good Earth Village and please let me know if you are signing up so I will have an idea of how many Our Savior s kids are participating. If you have any questions please contact Pastor Joanna. I d be happy to talk with you about this great opportunity. We will still have day camp with Good Earth Village for our 1 st through 5 th graders. Family Camp at Good Earth Village: July 1-3 rd Family Camp is offered at Good Earth Village. Join Pastor Joanna and her kids as we enjoy the wonder of summer at Family Camp. Family Camp is spending time together in the quiet and natural beauty of Good Earth Village. It is designed to give your family time to play, worship and talk together. Our hope is that your family will be renewed in your time together and that you'll have a great time participating in "camp life" with our staff. As a family, you'll share meals together (no cooking or dishes involved!), worship together, play together and grow in your faith together. Each day will include opportunities for worship and Bible Study. Good Earth Village invites pastors from around the area to lead a Bible Study time for adults. These sessions are times for sharing, listening and gaining new insight on familiar, and perhaps not so familiar, Bible stories. The Good Earth Village summer staff will lead morning worship and evening campfires, which provide music and messages for all ages. Please contact Pastor Joanna Mitchell if you are interested in attending. Blessings!
