4 Applying Today s Sermon to Your Life Applying Today s Sermon to Your Life Applying Today s Sermon to Your Life 1. Our church-wide Bible reading has us in the Old Testament book of I Chronicles and in the gospel of John. Are you seeking the Lord through daily Bible reading, prayer, reflection and quiet time with us? If not, wouldn t you like to join us? 2. The Bible doesn t tell us a great deal about some of the original twelve disciples. Which of the twelve do you suppose are among the best known? Which are lesser known? What might even this simple point suggest for us today? 3. Read John 1:45. From this verse alone, describe Nathanael s view of the Bible. How did he know who Moses and the prophets wrote about (1:45)? What would it look like in your life if you followed Nathanael s example in this? 4. Nathanael s heart demonstrated a degree of prejudice, in John 1:46. How so? Do you confront and overcome the prejudices in yourself that the average heart holds? Is it possible to grow beyond our prejudices? Do you suppose Nathanael grew beyond his prejudices? Why does this matter so much? 5. How would you describe Nathanael s sincerity, in 1:47? Why do you sometimes become jaded, cynical and hypocritical over time? What s the remedy for the heart? 6. What does Nathanael s statement of faith indicate in 1:49? Why is it important? 7. What special insight did Nathanael seem to have about Jesus power, in 1:50 and 51? Where does insight into Jesus power come from? In your own words, describe Jesus power. How has His power come through for you? 8. Do you consider yourself a disciple of Jesus? What exactly does that mean? When it comes to following Christ, what else competes for your allegiance? What distractions are you currently facing? How will you overcome these in order to become and remain An Authentic Disciple, like Nathanael? 9. Read I Chronicles and John with us this week. Write down your thoughts, discuss it with a group, and hear a sermon from it next Sunday. Be inspired to live by faith. Recognize that Christ is still calling all people to Himself today for salvation, discipleship and service today. What s your response to Him as He calls for you today? 1.
