8 He is survived by his widow and six children, Mrs. Lou Ramsey, Mrs. Benton Wilkerson, Mrs. Charles Coleman, Bessie, Constantine, and Albert Gentry. Putnam County Herald, Cookeville, TN: Thursday, 14 January Silas W. Gentry Obt. Silas W. Gentry Called By Death: Silas W. Gentry was born October 30, 1857, near Baxter, TN, departed this life January 11, 1932, age 74 years, 2 months and 13 days. He was married to Miss Mary Robinson Maxwell on April 4, to this union was born 13 children, eight boys and five girls. He is survived by his wife, two sons, L. C. of Paden, OK, and Albert, of Oak Hill, WV, four daughters, Mrs. Benton Wilkerson and Mrs. Joe Ramsey, of Cookeville, Mrs. C. W. Coleman and Miss Bezzie Gentry, of Baxter. Besides the immediate family, he leaves five brothers, John, of Baxter, R. O., of Cookeville, Sterling, of McEwen, Joe, of TX, and Elmore, of Monterey; three sisters, Mrs. Joe Leftwich, Mrs. Hick Maxwell, of Baxter, and Mrs. John Duke, of Nashville, and several grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn his departure. Silas W. Gentry was a true type of the old line citizenship. Possessing to the fullest extent a genuine hospitality he always met you with a smile and never failed to invite you into his home to spend the day or the night, as the case might be. He was always interested in all public questions and was never too busy to chat with his friends, at the same time he has demonstrated to the world that an honest living could be made and a large family could be reared on a small, poor farm. He did not forget the great Bible question, "What would it profit a man if he gained the whole world and lost his own soul?" He obeyed the gospel and was baptized by Rev. Williams in 1905, and lived a faithful Christian life until the end. Religiously speaking as in all other principles of life, he was true to his convictions and was always to be found at his post of duty. Although he lived two miles from the meeting house in which he worshipped and in spite of the fact that he was made a cripple by a fall on an icy street in Cookeville, forced to use a crutch or crutches for the remainder of his life (about five years) he would often make the two miles along a narrow, muddy road on foot through the mud, the snow and the rain, ready to perform his duty and contribute his mite on the Lord's Day. The family has lost a good companion and father, the State has lost a good citizen, and the church has lost a most excellent member. Funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ by Chester Patton and J. P. Watson; also O. H. Tallman was present and made a talk. The body was laid to rest in the Gran Maxwell cemetery to await the judgment morn. Putnam County Herald, Cookeville, TN: Thursday, 24 March Toy Gentry b. 29 May 1912 d. 16 December 1918, Jonathan R.
