He was born November 16, 1947 in Putnam County to the late Jon and Aline Henley Harris. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers: John Harris, Jr, Dillon Harris, Larry Harris, Royce Harris and William Arthur Harris. He was a retired bull dozer operator with Loyd Shores Trucking Company. He loved squirrel and coon hunting and fishing. He was a member of Silver Point Church of Christ. Interment will follow in the G.V. Herren Family Cemetery in Silver Point. Mr. Herren passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at his home. He was born December 1, 1940 in Putnam County to the late General Vester G.V. and Mary Thomas Herren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Lois Phillips, Lucy Jones, Eunice Jones, Sue Rhea Nord, Mary Lou Herren, Dorothy Martin and Belle Youngblood, brothers Howard, Jere and Zina Herren. He was a 1959 graduate of Cookeville Central High School. He was a member of Herrens Chapel Church of Christ, where he had served as a Deacon. He loved reading his Bible, working crossword puzzles and playing card games. He was a retired bookkeeper. Mrs. Herren died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, peacefully at home in her sleep. She was born in Baxter on June 11, 1933 to the late Joe and Elva Dyer Bradford. Her father died when she was two and her mother and step-father, Collie Brown raised her. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Zina Lee Herren on October 9, 2003, foster son Tommy Hicks, sister Rose Sutton, brothers Joe Bradford, Jr. and Floyd Bradford. She was a member and devoted Christian at Herrens Chapel Church of Christ.

4 Helen was a retired cook. She cooked for the Meals on Wheels Program at the Senior Citizens, for King Salads, at Baxter Elementary School and retired from Upperman High School in Baxter. He was owner-operator of Jere Herren Auto Sales, Empire Homes, J.T. Herren Livestock Co. and J&M Farms. He was a farmer and member of Silver Point Church of Christ. His family includes his wife of 51 years, Helen Bradford Herren of Baxter; two daughters and sons-in-law, Terasa and Bruce Clouse of Baxter and Kim and Rick Smith of Cookeville; a son, Carson Herren, of Murfreesboro; a foster son, Tommy Hicks, in the US Air Force at Tucson, Ariz.; four sisters, Eunice Jones, Lois Phillips and Belle Youngblood, all of Silver Point, and Sue Ray Norrod of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Jere Herren of Baxter and Charles Herren of Cookeville; five grandchildren and two spouses, Shannon and Angie Clouse, Matt and Heather Clouse, Cody and Kristin Smith and Brandon Herren; and five great-grandchildren, Jared, Jordan, Cori, Cayse and Clayton Clouse. He was a retired information systems manager with Institutional Wholesale (IWC) of Cookeville. He was a member of Samaria Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed farming, driving tractors and was an avid Boston Celtics basketball fan. Survivors include wife of 48 years, Sandra Jones Welte of Baxter (married Aug. 17, 1968 in Akron, Ohio); a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Eddie Bilbrey of Cookeville; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Kimberly Welte of Cookeville and Jeffrey and Jaime Welte of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; grandchildren, Emily, Luke and Brad Welte; and sisters and a brother-in-law, Norma Jean and Floyd Sickler of Idaville, Indiana,, Lois Wright of Florida and Carolyn Lawson of Indiana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Ladd; and a brother, Robert Welte. Bro. David Eldridge will officiate at the services.
