Mahan was born October 30, 1859, died December 12, 1944, having lived 85 years 1 month, and 13 days. He was a son of W. C. and Sallie Mahan who were among the early pioneers of Putnam County, TN. Mr. Mahan was married to Miss Maggie McCaleb in 1882 and to this union was born 6 children, 4 girls and 2 boys, all of whom survive. Mrs. Maggie Mahan preceded him in death by many years, leaving him the car and protection of the children. He was later married to Miss Leona Farris in 1906 and to this union was born 1 daughter, who now lives in CA, and could not be with her father and family during his illness and death. Mr. Mahan was never united with any denominations as to church affiliations but he professed a strong belief in Christianity and lived a very devoted and outspoken Christian. He always active in any activities for an uplifting benefit to his community and fellow man, he was a good, kind, loving husband, an affectionate father. He will be missed. Rev. McCaleb was once an honored member of the Central Tennessee conference, but is now deceased. Sister Maggie was married to J. P. Mahan Aug. 31, To this happy union was born two boys and four girls, all of whom are living... [Date 6/28/1905, Vol. III, No. 21, Page 5] Sister Mahan was a dutiful wife, a loving mother. She was converted and joined the Methodist Church at Macedonia and lived a Christian life up to the days of death. The community has lost a true and loving friend and neighbor, the church a devoted member, her husband a faithful companion, the children a tender, loving mother. The writer was her pastor 7 years and always found a warm welcome in her home. Her companion and children do not mourn as those without hope. She has gone to her reward to dwell in a home not made with hands. The service was attended by the writer, and her remains were laid away in the Stewart Cemetery to rest until the resurrection morning. May the grace of God sustain the aged mother, husband and children, brothers and sisters, and many friends. G. W. Nunnally Robert S. Mahan
