Words from Glennie Smith, Our Spiritual Leader Dear spiritual family: Our garage sale was a huge success as we made over $2000. Thanks to all of you who donated your time, talent & household items. We give a special Unity blessing to all of you working angels who worked the sale every day. A special thanks to Julie Thompson for her tireless effort in making this year's sale of success. My personal thanks to Norma, Karen, Marlene, Larry, Kathy, Mary, Agnes, Alana, Arlene, Doris, Sharon and, and Jackie for the many hours you worked. Who knew that work could be so much fun? What a great experience. This month, Unity celebrates the power of Power. The personal energetic power we experience when we are aligned with divine will. Our power is a gift from God. What we do with it, and how we use our power, is a gift to the world. If we seek power for selfish gratification, it will bring us disappointment and often disastrous results. However, power rightly used, under the guidance of Christ mind, will accomplish only good and prosperous results. Personal power is located at the base of the tongue, the throat chakra. We gain power when we control our thoughts and feelings. We empower ourselves when we set aside personal ego and allow divine love to direct our course. Thy will be done. We reinforce our power when we empower others- through our faith in them and by holding them in sacred space. We reinforce our power when we speak the truth. Honesty is the best policy. All power comes from God. As we connect to our divine source, we realize that perfect mind, the same mind which was in Christ Jesus. So plug in your power, and stay connected to your source. Namaste, Glennie Another successful Rummage Sale! Photos on Page Manchester Drive, Rockford IL (815) info@unityofrockford.com

CORNER Christ Church Unity of Rockford: Board of Directors Steve Jerry Kathy Craig Pearson comcast.net Babs Bill Service: Sundays at 10 AM. Prayer Circle: Tuesdays, 10 AM. Yoga: Tuesdays, 10:45 AM (Love offering). 's monthly newsletter is distributed/ ed mid-month, after the month's Board meeting. To submit info for the Christ Church Unity of Rockford newsletter, to report corrections, to place an ad, or to suggest a member to feature in "Member's Corner," please addiwp@gmail.com. Thank you! Editor's Note: I thought it would be fun to feature a member of each month. It should be very interesting (and enlightening) to learn what "path" we took to get to Unity & will give us an active "voice" as we travel along our spiritual paths. Each featured member will have free reign on what they want included in his/her "corner." Since this was a "last minute" addition to the newsletter, I decided to use myself as the guinea pig! I hope you enjoy this new feature for the monthly newsletter. Thanks & enjoy. Member's Although my given name is Donna, I much prefer to be called "Addi," a nickname bestowed upon me way back in the early days of playing softball. I was raised in Franklin Park, Illinois, coming to Rockford in 1980 when I chose to attend Rockford College. I liked Rockford so much, I've stayed ever since. (I can't believe I've known Glennie since 1983!) I was raised in the tradition of the Catholic church. I even served as an extra-ordinary minister (a layperson who has approval--blessing?--to serve Communion). I was married in the Catholic church (which was not annulled, so incredibly I am still considered married within the Church!). I found myself at Unity via quite the winding path, trying out churches, meditating & praying on my own, learning Reiki, getting to the point of wanting nothing to do with organized religion. Thankfully, I learned of Unity & joined the church last fall. As I have told Glennie, I finally feel like I am "home." The people of Unity are so warm, welcoming, healing. I feel incredibly blessed to be part of such a wonderful community. I am a board certified, registered art therapist and a licensed clinical professional counselor. I worked with the chronically mentally ill for almost 20 years before beginning my tenure as the Director of Brightside Adult Day Service in I live with Tammy, my partner of 26 years, and our two feisty shih tzus. All of whom keep me entertained & in line! 4831 Manchester Drive, Rockford IL (815) info@unityofrockford.com

May's Spiritual Power: We affirm: "I have the power to create my world." Power The ability to master, have dominion and control. The disciple is Philip. He represents power over our thoughts and feelings. The corresponding color is purple. The location is the root of the tongue. From the Unity.org website: "Charles Fillmore, cofounder of Unity, identified 12 spiritual abilities perfectly expressed by Jesus, which are also present in each one of us. Fillmore called them the Twelve Powers. Unity is designating 2010 The Year of the Twelve Powers. You can find information on the 12 powers at Also, Unity is on Facebook & has a 12 Powers tab: Who can pass up a piece of pie or a cup of coffee? Join us for fellowship, fun, conversation & a tasty treat each Sunday after service. Feeling social? Have a computer? Join our Facebook group (Unity of Rockford). Facebook also brings you the opportunity to join the Unity organization site (Unity). Why, you can even get "The Daily Word" on your Facebook page ever day. As always, you can learn more about Unity via It's a great resource. See you online! 4831 Manchester Drive, Rockford IL (815) info@unityofrockford.com

16th Annual Rummage Sale! April 2010

CHRIST CHURCH UNITY OF ROCKFORD: Minutes of Board of Trustees Meeting, April 18, Call to Order & Roll Call at 11:40 a.m. by President Jerry Glawe. All board members present. Guests: Jackie DeVries, Sharon Glawe, Sally Hoskinson, Alana Ziegenmeyer, Lydia Mathes, Carol Buhl Opening Prayer Glennie Smith Secretary's Report Craig Pearson Minutes of March meeting read by Craig Pearson. Move to accept by Glennie, 2nd by Steve, Unanimous. Treasurer's Report Kathy Kelley Treasurer s report for March read by Kathy. Move to accept by Craig, 2nd by Steve, Unanimous. Jerry noted that the Utilities amount was larger than last year and asked if Kathy knew which of the utilities was the major cause. Kathy said she d look into it and report back. The February 2010 bank statement has been OK d by Jerry. Spiritual Leader's Report Glennie Smith Glennie gave a short report on her stay at Unity Village. She learned that there are different types of churches based on attendance. We re classified a Family Church that is board driven. Based on Glennie s report, it appears individual board members should take responsibility for specific duties and leave the minister free to be the Spiritual Leader. The board agreed to look into more shared responsibilities. Glennie would like to add in whom I live and have my being to our reading of the 1 st Unity Principle. Jerry suggested that didn t need board approval as it was considered the minister s discretion. Glennie said it would be nice to have an updated membership list. Steve and Craig volunteered to compile the list. Carol Wick has volunteered to be a Prayer Chaplin. Glennie will look into the requirements to be a Prayer Chaplin. She will also make an announcement that anyone interested in being a Prayer Chaplin contact her. Committee Reports: Sunday School-Kathy Kelly Kathy began a discussion on the Sunday School schedule for the summer. Kathy made a motion to not have organized Sunday School for the months of June, July and August restarting in September, if children are present and want to go downstairs a volunteer could go down with them. 2 nd Craig Unanimous Building and Grounds Jerry Glawe Jerry reported he has found some volunteers for yard clean up and we won t have to hire anyone at this time. Jackie said she has some Gladiolas bulbs for planting on the grounds. Jerry will ask Paul to plant the bulbs when he plants some bulbs he has donated. Rummage Sale Bill asked if he could put obsolete equipment from the sound room for sale in the rummage sale. He will price the equipment. Motion by Glennie, 2 nd by Steve, Unanimous Unfinished Business Jerry has looked into amortization of our mortgage and we have approx. 23 years left to pay. A discussion was held on allowing business card size ads in the newsletter. Glennie made a motion we charge $10/per month for an ad, 2 nd Craig, Unanimous New Business Addi and Agnes will be taking over our website. Bill will have the transition in place by May 1. A discussion was held on the possibility of holding an art fair and ice cream social fund raiser. Glennie made a motion we proceed with plans to hold the event at Glawe s farm, 2 nd Steve, Unanimous. We will look at reassigning responsibilities for church operation as they come up, to help relieve the minister of day to day details. Motion to adjourn by Glennie, 2nd by Bill. Adjourned at 12:51 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Craig Pearson--Secretary
