1 APRIL 2016 THE UNITED CHURCH OF BROOMFIELD an Open & Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ The Center of Our Lives Pastor: Greg Garland 825 Kohl Street, Broomfield, CO My Last Pastor Greg s Gandering So I am in a year of lasts. Although I m not going anywhere and will still be around, there have been, and there will be, some lasts. As I wrote my Easter sermon there was a moment of sadness, maybe with a tear or two, as I realized that this may very likely be the last Easter sermon I will prepare and preach. As we concluded our Lenten study one of the group asked, So what do you think we ll do for Advent? I responded, Well, that will depend on who is doing it. I very possibly have planned my last Christmas service I may be involved, but that responsibility and opportunity will pass to the new pastor. Of course there will be a lot of things that I will continue to do and be involved in, but things will change. That s the whole idea. So there will also be a lot of firsts. There will be the first worship service planned and led by the new pastor. There will be a first sermon. There will be a first communion. There will be their first ministry meeting. There will be the first time you will get to meet and talk to them. There will be the first time they do something wonderful and new. There will be the first time they will disappoint you or do something you don t like. There will be the first disagreement. There will be the first time they will visit you in the hospital, or comfort you in grief. There will be the first time you hear the Spirit speaking to you through their preaching, teaching or actions. So in the comings months I will have some more lasts, some of which will be kind of sad, some of which will be a relief, but all of which will mean a first for the new pastor and I am hoping that one of my firsts will be to help the new pastor with his or her firsts. A small flag will be set beside it to honor his service to this country during WW2. Also, a short row of one-year-old peonies will be planted along the driveway to the inside gate in the garden to honor the Riehl family.

Prayers for Carissa Fralin requests prayers for the family of Mary Jo Flory-Steury in her death. She was 59. Prayers for Judy White and family in the passing of her husband Ken White. Prayer for Chad Steinbeck who was hospitalized. Prayers for Gary Pratt. He was admitted to Saint Anthony's with pneumonia. Prayers for Steve Brecheisen and family in the passing of his brother. We thank everyone for their prayers because we know they help. He did leave two wonderful kids Macy and Jacob and he was a wonderful father to them. I guess there is still needed prayers for the family since it's not over yet. Prayers requested by the Snyders for the family of Lou Mortellaro who entered new life. Jane and Bryan Shelton want to thank everyone for their prayers, good thoughts and vibes concerning Celina Krumpholz. She came through her surgery and the greatest news of all was that the cancer had not spread to any other part of her body. Jennie Belval requests prayers for Tom & Emalee Whaly and family. Prayers for my Uncle's recovery from surgery and my Aunt who suffers from Alzheimers and for their Children. The Dees request prayers for strength and wisdom as our family goes through a very difficult and challenging time. Keri Jacobs requests prayers her Dad, who is scheduled for surgery on his MCL. Prayers that he is able to have surgery, that it goes quickly and smoothly and that he has a better than anticipated recovery. Prayers for Becky Sweeney and her family. Becky and her husband have 3 young daughters. Becky has been fighting breast cancer for the last couple years but her body is no longer responding to treatments and she has started Hospice Care. Prayers for peace and support as her family makes this transition. Continued prayers for my Keri Jacobs Dad. He did make it to surgery and, so far, is having a successful recovery. His spirits seem to be pretty good, too! Keep the prayers coming! From Keri Jacobs Prayers for the Regoulinksy and Tabone family. My friend Todd's mother-in-law, Janice, passed away yesterday. Prayers for Janice (Carissa Fralin s mom). She was admitted to Good Samaritan for dangerously low blood pressure, severe fatigue and nausea, all related to her ongoing disease of amyloidosis. We do not know if much can be done, but are hopeful that the doctors will at least be able to help her feel better. Prayers for Edgar Riehl and family. Edgar was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital following a stroke. Grayson George Garland was born to Garret and Ashley Garland at 2:07 am on March 30th weighing in at 4 lbs 12 oz and 17 inches. All are well.
