6 ANGELTOWN NEWS By Kay Hironaka This writer would like to apologize at the ver,y start for the lack of news this month. Haven't received any items from the members aside from the bits and pieces heard at the meetings on Wednesday nights at the Association Hall. Of course, the upcoming reunion and especially the souvenir booklet are the subjects uppermost in our minds at the present time. One of the mo~ encouraging de~elopments is the decision to have the 1970 Reunion Welcoming Banquet at the Century Plaza Hotel, after long deliberation by the committee. Suffice it to say, that most of our members were elated and also relieved. As for the booklet, Sat Nakamura, Kenji Yoshino, Aki Miyagi and Joe Hironaka are meeting once a week along with members like Tad Hashi moto, Lloyd Seki, Douglas Tanaka, etc. It might be noted that Art Yoshimura and Joe Morizono of "A" Battery were present at a couple of the meetings and thanks to them, we were able to hear some fresh ideas and suggestions towards making this a monthly project. It was encoura ging indeed in that the mood of this whole endeavor was uplifted, at least to this writer. It cannot be stressed enough that every possible assistance regarding the booklet will be appreciated, particularly in the area of selling advertising space. This is no easy task but it can be done with a little nerve and a lot of "esprit de corps." It was decided at the last meeting that the same officers are going another round in one of the strangest elections these eyes have ever seen. Does this automatically eliminate an installation dinner this year? Just asking. Our deepest sympathy to Vice-President Henry Sakato and his f~ in the passing of his mother after a long illness. It is with our deepest regret we report that Warrant officer Leonard James Sugimoto, 22-year old son of Ray and Fumi Sugimoto (Baker, looth) of Gardena, was killed in action in Vietnam on December 17. He was a helicopter pilot as reported in the August issue of the Puka Puka Parade. continued -1-

Golfers, if you see the greens is much greener at Ala IVai Golf Course lately and if your ball don't go into the holes you can blame partially to Yutaka Inouye who is one of the greenkeepers there. It will be an outstanding year for Able Chapter vlhen, at the first monthly meeting held on January 21, our President Kamemoto has organized a steering Committee - which include the officers and some of the outstanding Able Chapter members to map out a interesting program with lot of activities for the young and more for the members and wives since lot of their children has step into the vlorld by themselves. Kuul ei Taira, "Fuzzy" and Eddie Yoshimasu had a good bingo game going with pri zes gal ore. Bob Taira distributed the candie and gifts vlithout his Santa uniform. I guess his outfit \vas strikebound. It seemed as though the grovm-ups "lere enjoying their grab bags more than the ldddies, especially Bob. Bob had a little gadget where he had to reach t he mountain. If you haven't reached t he top, better do mor e push-ups at the gym, Bob. Hope you're making use of your gr ab bags, Stella and Eddie. Wonder if Kuul ei put her gift in the safe deposit box for safe keeping. That's a rare gem, Kuulei. Hy grab bag \'las a very practical one which I can put to good use when my "fork load is heav'j at the office - t akes a little pr a ctice though. We "lere happy to have the follo"ting guests: Hr. & Mr s. Herbert Furuya & daughter, Gracie, Hr. & Mrs. Andrew! 1atsunaga and children. There was talk a while back that we should cut it out entir el y now that our kids have outgrown the fantasy of being good for Santa's sake. We find ourselves getting a bit lonesome in our mello';l years and vie hanker for the warm camaraderie that kept us together as a team a long time ago. Xmas party is the answer. The clubhouse was filled vlith charcoal smoke generated by Tsugio Kaisen and Poker Joe Ka';/auchi, trying to inject a Primo Beer flavor to the barbecue chunks. We vfondered why the Board of Health sani tation man, ~~sao Koga wasn't lifting a finger against the perpetrators of air pollution.
