Gillett Area Historical Society replaced the annual Christmas Tea this year with an Open House at the museum during Gillett s annual Christmas in the Park Celebration. The Christmas tree still appeared in the front foyer, and a few Christmas decorations were displayed around the museum. Card tables were scattered about the rooms, gaily decorated for Christmas. A place for visitors to take their cookies and coffee and rest while they discussed their findings at the Museum With a Past! Booklets were purchased, and stories were told. Our new Funeral Corner brought reminders of former citizens of the Gillett Area. Our local resident ghost would not allow a good picture to be taken, no matter how many times we tried! Please come to see the new addition in person! If you have any memorial cards of local folks funerals, we d appreciate them. Thanks Lois Riemer, for the tree! The Christmas lights around the museum windows were lit in time for the annual Christmas in the Park lighting ceremony, and will remain in the window through the holidays, lighting up from 4pm 2am! Our donation box yielded $28.33 per hour ~ more than the minimum wage! Thank you all! At the end of the day, the museum open house was a pleasant time for all.

FROM TH BOOKLT: STUDNT WRITINGS A VIW OF GILLTT 1938 Gillett State Bank transcribed from the writings of Betty Jane Rasmusson Our bank is located in the center of Main Street in a large red brick building. On the second floor there are two docter s offices. Proceeding downstairs, there is a door that leads to a medium sized room. Here they have the Board of Dorector s Meeting. The tellers have kept an account of the things in the past month.. If the Board of Directors disapprove of one the tellers promise not to do it again. The bank is very nicely decorated. In the center there is a table and an inkhorn for people who need to do writing. We have four people employed here. They are Mr. Roly, Miss Wetzel, Mr. John, and Mr.. Hansteadt.. The bank takes care of the money for the people. The money may be deposited in a saving account or a checking account. Savings draw interest, but checking accounts do not. The people who have checking accounts write out checks when they want some money. Later these checks go to Milwaukee to the Clearing House where the No. that is on the check is written on a piece of paper, with the amount of the check written beside it. Then they sent the check back to the bank where it was made out. Here it is kept for a while. They are looked over and compared with the paper from the Clearing House to see that there is not mistake made. The No. of our bank is 79. The money in savings account is paid interest on every six (Continued on page 3)

If a person wants his money payed interest on every six months, he must come to the bank the first day of the sixth month to have this renewed so it will start paying interest again. Or if he wants his money payed interest on yearly, he must come to the bank one year after he deposited the money to have it renewed, so it will start paying interest again. They have an examination twice a year. One is a state examination and the other one is a Federal examination. Thomas Savage was in partnership with his son-in-law, George Groteleuschen, in the merchandise store at the corner of Lake and Main Street.
