Glenn Wolf, Jr. N5RN SECRETARY/TREASURER ADXA MEETING MINUTES T he st quarter meeting of the ADXA was held at the home of Earl and Sharon Smith on 20 March 2004 near Samples, Arkansas. Those that signed the sign-in sheet included the following members: Glenn Wolf, N5RN, Dave Jacques, K5DV, Earl Smith, N5ZM, Ollie Gade, W5GO, Rick Harris, AI5P, Martin Hankins, W5HTY, Lenny Mendel, K5OVC, Ken Blevins, K5ALQ, Jimmy Ballew, N5ZIV, David Norris, K5UZ, Paul Wynne, AF5M, Myrtle Wynne, N5OOI, and Bill Harper, K9IW, Guests included Wayne Beck, K5MB, and Pat Blevins. The meeting was called to order by President Dave Jacques at After going around the room and doing introductions, Dave thanked Earl and Sharon for hosting this month s meeting. Dave also reminded everyone that dues are due. AF5M motioned that we dispense with the reading of the minutes. K5UZ seconded and the motion carried. N5RN gave the Treasurer s report. AF5M motion for approval of the Treasurer s report, AI5P seconded and the motion carried. Health and Welfare: W5HTY reported that he was on the mend from a hernia repair. Member Bio: Bill Harper K9IW Bill was born in South Wisconsin. Eventually became a Chemical Engineer. He has 2 children. He retired from Abbot Labs in His interest in amateur radio began in high school. He was a member of the DX club in Illinois. He s top of Honor roll for both CW and Phone. Currently he lives in Hot Springs Village. He has worked as the 9C card handler for the W9 bureau. New Business: There was some discussion about publishing ADXA finances in the newsletter. W5GO made a motion that we NOT publish our finances in the newsletter (including the amounts we have given to

2 Page 2 various DXpeditions). N5ZM seconded and the motion passed. A second and more significant discussion about our funding of DXpeditions came up again. The motion as it finally evolved was as follows: Support of DXpeditons: Supported DXpeditions must be in the Top 50 needed list. If the request for the support comes in between meeting support will be limited to $100. Membership vote is required for DXpeditions between on the needed list and for amounts over $100 excluding those needed by club members. Support of DXpeditons: 3B9C #65 on needed list AI5P made a motion to support this effort. W5HTY seconded and the motion carried T33 #32 on needed list AI5P made a motion to support this effort. K5OVC seconded and the motion carried. AI5P thanked everyone for the flowers to his Mom s funeral. He asked about a battery powered CW key. Rick Gave a report on his Costa Rica visit. CW went to W5GO; SSB went to K5OVC. K5UR racked up a total of 16 points. The ADXA Quarterly N5ZM indicated that DXtravaganza has requested support. N5ZM made a motion and K5OVC seconded that we will provide some support. It was mentioned that the Signman will have ADXA blanks at the LR hamfest. The hat was passed. K5OVC motioned that we adjourn. K9IW seconded and we adjourned at MARK YOUR CALENDARS These are the dates for future ADXA meetings. Please note the years as well as the date! The DX Hog was given to W5GO. AI5P has agreed to be the feature presentation at the December meeting.

3 The ADXA Quarterly Page 3 WORDS OF WISDOM DAVE JACQUES, K5DV, PRESIDENT As usual, Earl and Sharon made a great presentation of their home for the 2 nd quarter meeting. The food was great and the company was even greater. A special thanks, from all the chocoholics, goes to Susan, Glenn s xyl for her Death by Chocolate. It was great seeing all of you that made it. We got quite a lot accomplished (see later in newsletter minutes) and found out a lot more about one of our members, Bill Harper, K9IW. He was, I hope, the first of many volunteers to share their history with the rest of the club. As for DX news this quarter, I am at a total loss as my station is still off the air. Hopefully, I ll have more for you next quarter. I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the Hot Springs meeting at Blakely Dam on June 12 th. 73, Dave
