He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor. And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, Is not this Joseph s son? He said to them, Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, Doctor, cure yourself! And you will say, Do here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum. And he said, Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in the prophet s hometown. But the truth is, there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a severe famine over all the land; yet Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow at Zarephath in Sidon. There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian. When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with rage. They got up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they might hurl him off the cliff. Affirmation of Faith I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRESCHOOL CHILDREN S MUSIC: Next Sunday, the Preschool children will be sharing their musical talents with the congregation during the Worship Service.

7 NURSERY SCHOOL AND PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION: Children whose parents are members of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church and children now in Nursery School are offered an opportunity to register before the rest of the community. Registration forms can be picked up at the church office or call to request that a form be mailed to you. Preschool tuition for the year is $810 a year or $90 a month for nine months. Nursery School tuition is $603 a year or $67 a month for eight months. Registrations are accepted in the order in which the completed form and $30 registration fee (note the increase) is received at the church office. The deadline is Tuesday, February 5, After that date, any remaining openings will be available to others. BLACK HISTORY MONTH: Throughout the month of February, the choir is singing anthems based on gospel and spiritual songs from the African-American traditions to honor the Christian history of our African American brothers and sisters. ORDINATION SERVICE: Sunday, February 3:00 West Kish Presbyterian, 3820 Main Street, Belleville. Huntingdon Presbytery PCUSA and Upper Susquehanna Synod ELCA invite you to share their joy as Ela J. Robertson is ordained to the Ministry of Word & Sacrament and installed to serve the congregations of West Kish and St. John s Lutheran Church. A reception will follow. SMALL GROUP MINISTRY Adult Sunday Morning Study led by Pat Brown meets in the church parlor on Sundays at 9 AM. They are continuing the study, Ten Women of the Bible, by Max Lucado. All are welcome. Tuesday Evening Study meets in the youth room on the third floor at 6:30 PM. Their new study is Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado. It is a study in the book of Philippians. You are welcome to join them. Youth Meetings: Our youth group for youth in grades 6-12 meets from 6 7:30 PM Sunday evenings. OPPORTUNITIES TO SPONSOR FLOWERS: There are open dates to place flowers in the church sanctuary. February 17, March 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 are available. 8 2019 SESSION COMMITTEE STRUCTURE The session, along with the pastor, provides primary leadership of church. Session responsibilities are coordinated by the following committees. Please feel free to committee members with any questions, commendations, or concerns: Christian Education: Facilitates spiritual growth through classes, small groups, and special events. Coordinates Nursery, Children s Chat and Children s Church volunteers; oversees Youth Group, Small Groups, Sunday School, VBS, Traveling Day Camp and other programs, working closely with the Christian Education Coordinator. Elders are Leah Riden and Susan Ferguson. Worship and Music: Works with the pastor to provide and facilitate meaningful worship services. Oversees choirs and choir directors, supervises ushers, coordinates acolytes and liturgists, arranges special music. Elders are Sue Garner, Doug Garner and Cole Cullen. Property: Maintains and improves church buildings and properties in order to facilitate effective ministry; supervises custodial and security staff and serves as official liaison with outside groups who use our building. Elders are Dave Noss and Carl Haldeman. Stewardship: Oversees and directs financial and personnel resources, supervises the church treasurer, provides stewardship education, recommends and oversees budget, oversees endowment funds and special offerings. Manages all paid personnel. Elders are Ruth Fisher, Lonnie Griffith and Ed Curry. Fellowship: Facilitates spiritually edifying relationships within the church body, provides funeral lunches, organizes receptions, and meals for other events, oversees the church kitchen, provides opportunities for church members to get to know each other and deepen relationships. Elders are Bill Sisson and Carole Auker. Preschool: Facilitates and directs the work of the Lewistown Presbyterian Preschool and Nursery School; establishes curriculum in conjunction with teachers; reviews teacher performance; oversees school finances, including scholarships; encourages congregational support and relationships with students and families. Elder is Leah Noerr. Mission and Evangelism: Inspires and facilitates the church s outreach to the community and to the world by determining mission budget, maintaining relationships with mission coworkers, representing the church in the community, and organizing member participation in hands-on mission. Elders are Karen McCurdy and Lisa Snyder.

Monday nights, the Joy Seekers Women s Bible Study meet at 6:00 pm in the church parlor and the Boy Scouts meet at 7:00 pm on the third floor.
