We will continue with the study of Luke Ch. 19 versus Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem, where His disciples hoped He would set up an earthly kingdom. To correct their false ideas, Jesus told the parable of the minas, showing that His kingdom would appear visibly and in glory only when He returned on the Last Day. So, what is our duty here while we wait for His return? There are free copies of the Lutheran Study Bible and Luther s Small Catechism for those who lost theirs in the Campfire! Wednesday morning Bible Study we will continue our study through Paul s second letter to the Corinthians this coming Wednesday, January 23 rd. Year End Tithing Statements Due to the Campfire, our church records were destroyed and we only have a partial backup of the giving statements. If you need a statement, we should be able to use bank statements to recreate a year end total. Due to the time involved, we will only be making statements for those who will need them for tax purposes. What we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well. 24 And he said, Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. 25 But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens were shut up three years and six months, and a great famine came over all the land, 26 and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian. 28 When they heard these things, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. 29 And they rose up and drove him out of the town and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff. 30 But passing through their midst, he went away. 5 The captive to release, To God the lost to bring, To teach the way of life and peace, It is a Christ-like thing. 6 And we believe Thy Word, Though dim our faith may be: Whate er for Thine we do, O Lord, We do it unto Thee. 8 Stand Prayer of the Church Service of the Sacrament Prayer of Thanksgiving LSB 161 P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Preface LSB 160 P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Lift up your hearts. C We lift them to the Lord. P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C It is right to give Him thanks and praise. P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; for what had been hidden from before the foundation of the world You have made known to the nations in Your Son. In Him, being found in the substance of our mortal nature, You have manifested the fullness of Your glory. P O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment.
