One would begin to wonder if this were a Good morning what in the world would a Bad morning look like? There are some days that I would like to subscribe to another paper that advertises, We print nothing but good news. There are bad things that happen to good people, to all of us. We should never take lightly the tragedies that hit the lives of our neighbors. Of course, I am thinking about the devastation that happened to the people along the path of the storm, as well as our church family who have experienced their own struggles. It is almost overwhelming isn t it? When I am feeling a little depressed or smothered by the world, I have to remind myself, -- Where is your faith and Who are the most important people in my life, and begin there to find breathing room. I am reminded of the song, On Christ the solid rock, I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. How true that is! There is a lot of call for change, but I don t want that solid rock to ever change! There is so little I can do for the people along the coast. I can offer my prayers. I can help out with some donations. This helps. I can also make a phone call to my daughter and son and see how their day is going. When I get involved close by, I don t feel so swamped by the larger world. Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 42:11

3 Elementary Choir Our Elementary Choir (for children in grades 1-5) began rehearsals on September 10th. The choir will meet each Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The choir sings for 10:50 morning worship one Sunday each month. In the spring, the elementary choir will present the musical JONAH S TALE OF A WHALE. During the year, choir members grow in ability to sing on pitch. They learn to play choir chimes, resonator bells, and the autoharp. They are taught that being a choir member is not a performance, but is a way of worshiping God and of helping others worship. We rehearse in the Fellowship Classroom. Since it is not safe for children to go into the parking area alone, parents or guardians must come to our rehearsal room to pick up their children. Give the children you know a musical gift, by bringing them to Elementary Choir. United Methodist Men The UMM will plan to meet Sat. Sept. 27th at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast and warm fellowship. Troy Chapman from Metro Board will be the guest speaker. Volunteer Opportunity Western Hills Elementary School will have an after school program teaching young people to sew. You can volunteer for one session (six weeks) beginning with September to October and next session will be November to December. The hours are 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. or 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Please contact Becky Grimland, school counselor, if you can or Rebecca.Grimland@fwisd.org There is a teacher and sewing machines are available just extra hands and assistance with the students would be wonderful.
