1 JUNE 2017 Little Cedar & Marshall Churchmouse Psalm 74: Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the earth. 13 You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the dragons in the waters. 14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness. 15 You cut openings for springs and torrents; you dried up ever-flowing streams. 16 Yours is the day, yours also the night; you established the luminaries and the sun. 17 You have fixed all the bounds of the earth; you made summer and winter. Grace and peace to you Little Cedar and Marshall Churches, You have made summer and winter. I d say there isn t a single person that isn t thrilled to see summer set in. At this point, we d probably be good with never seeing winter again. Then again, there is a gift about living in the Midwest and seeing the beautiful changing of the seasons. Down south the seasons seem to be hot, and really hot. For us in the Midwest, we get to see the unique beauty of each season. The seasons are reflective of life. As we journey through life, we have moments in which we nestle in the warmth of our homes in the cold winter. We have moments that we breathe deeply of the crisp autumn air that seems to invigorate one s soul. We have moments that we bask in the warmth of the summer sun that brings joy. We have moments that we stare out the window watching the spring rains as we contemplate our place in this world. As we make our way through the seasons of the year, it always gives us comfort knowing that the season will pass. It is the same of the seasons of life; those shall pass as well. I d encourage you to savor each season. Each season of life gives us an opportunity to grow in faith and in our relationship to God. Each season of life enables us to deepen our foundation; giving strength and courage. I guess above all, savor the changes, knowing that each season that passes will come again. 3 June 2017 Youth Cookbook Our youth are putting together a cookbook to raise money for the ELCA National Youth Gathering in Houston next summer. Schwan s Cares. Whether you are a current Schwan s customer or want to place one order, use this link: little-cedar-and-marshall-youth You can go to Shop Now and will be directed to pick a youth member to sponsor. We receive 20% until July 3rd and then 5% until October 1st. May was a month of review for our kids. We learned about the colors of rainbows, number 15, X, Y, Z and the star shape. This was the last month of curriculum for the Summer and all of our kids have learned to write their names!! This is also the month where we lose 6 friends. They will start kindergarten in the Fall so they are headed to Kids Zone or SAC. We are going to miss them so much, but we wish them luck on this new journey! CARE MEALS As a church we gather around in care and support for one another. One way that we can do that is by giving a meal to someone in a time of need; those in a health crisis, families with a newborn, and those in bereavement. So here is how it will work. Grab a foil pan from the narthex, fill it with something yummy that can be frozen and reheated in the oven, include baking instructions, and then bring it into the church office. The meals will then go into the freezer and when the time comes, we have volunteers who will deliver those meals to a family in need. Fund Raiser Coming Little Cedar will sponsor a collection of POP CANS and POP TABS There will be a container in the parking lot beginning Sat. June 24th through Sun. June 25th. All money collected for the cans and tabs will go to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester. start saving cans and tabs now..

5 June 2017 Page 5 Youth & Education News Mark Your Calendars!! The 2018 ELCA National Youth Gathering will be here before you know it! The convention is from June 27th to July 1st. Keep your eyes open for more information coming out all the time. This is for students who will be in 8th grade through 12th grade this fall. We have the Cookbook fundraiser and the Schwan s fundraiser going on now! We will have a meeting soon to go over the registration process, continued fundraising, payment plans and to discuss any questions you may have. Feel free to contact Tara at any time in regards to anything you have questions or concerns about. 6 Page 6 Churchmouse Our 2017 Graduating Seniors Little Cedar Jacob (Jake) David Anderson is attending the University of Minnesota Mankato this fall for Social Work. His favorite high school memory is going on the New York trip. It was fun to experience life outside of a small town. His favorite church memory is going to the National Youth Gathering in Detroit. He loved the concerts. It was great to feel a part of such a huge community worshiping God. Ramsey Marie Gilson is attending Rochester Community and Technical College this fall and majoring in Dental Hygiene. Her favorite high school memories are playing sports and getting to hang out with her friends. Her favorite church memory is going on the Youth Trip to Detroit. Colton Michael Mandt is going to the University of Minnesota Mankato this fall. He plans to major in Exercise Science w/a Pre-Physical Therapy Emphasis. His favorite high school memories are playing sports with his friends and hanging out with friends. His favorite church memories are from the Youth Gathering in Detroit and helping out in the kitchen at a homeless shelter. Gabrielle (Gabby) Kristine Smith is attending Riverland Community College this fall. She is playing Volleyball and majoring in Massage Therapy. She then plans to go back for Occupational Therapy. Her favorite high school memory is playing sports and hanging out with friends. Her favorite church memory is going to Detroit. Christopher (Chris) Lynn Webber plans to attend Upper Iowa University to play baseball and get his Masters in Psychology. His favorite high school memories are being with friends every day. His favorite church memories are from Confirmation class and the fun stuff they got to do. Marshall Tyler Scott Hanson plans to attend Minnesota State University, Mankato to get a degree in Automotive Engineering Technology. His favorite high school memories are from the Florida Band/Choir trip and going on the rides. His favorite church memories are from the National Youth Gathering in Detroit and going to the assemblies at Ford Field.
