This summer our elementary classes will be taking a break from our usual curriculum and spend some time learning the order of the books of the Bible with Minute to Win It games! We will be using fun games, rhymes, and music to help even our kindergarteners and first graders learn some of the names of the books of the Bible. We will look at the overarching themes in each book and apply that to each lesson. of my favorite Bible heroes, Moses! They will start at the beginning when baby Moses was floated down the Nile River to escape the jealous Egyptian Pharaoh. Using a pretend fire, preschoolers will experience the burning bush and learn about the 10 Commandments. With dramatic play, they will also learn how Moses was able to free the Israelites from Egypt and escape by parting the Red Sea. And God said to Moses, I Am who I Am. (Exodus 3:14) ************** Elementary Bible Verse: Every part of scripture is Godbreathed and useful in one way or another - showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God s way. Much Love, Isn t it awesome Lindsay Pulido to see our little ones discover the true power of God?

We have some excellent cooks in our church. Thank you to everyone who brought a dish! Thank you to Misty Hankinson for coming to rescue Mike and I when we were locked out of the church while trying to set up (yes, I am to blame for that one). We are always guaranteed at least one good story when our FUMC family is together. We hope to see you at our next event! Mrs. Laura Mays is such a blessing to our church. She spent extra time every Sunday to prepare our sweet kiddos to sing on Mother s Day. They did a fantastic job!

Most of us do not realize the financial potential of insurance policies. If you have a policy that was bought for a purpose that no longer exists - perhaps to protect a business investment that has matured or benefit someone who has since passed away - it can be a very effective gift to the church endowment. It's also possible to buy a policy on your own life, give it to the church, take a tax deduction for the premiums, and in five or six years have it paid off. Thus, for an investment of a few thousand dollars, you might leave the church $50,000. For more information, contact Heartspring Methodist Foundation , or office@heartspringmethodist.org. 9 V o l u m e 4 8, I s s u e 6 Society of St. Stephen Even though there are more opportunities for employment in the Brazosport area, there continue to be emergency situations in which our help is needed. Rent continues to be very high, and many are not able to save for unexpected situations. Last week Society received a call from a client requesting immediate assistance. The lady had been abused in a domestic situation and her job did not pay enough to support her rent. She was evicted and moved, with her two sons, to a motel until she could find other living arrangements. Once she found another place to live, we were able to help with her first month s rent. We also networked P a g e 9 with The Food Basket to provide her with some food. We will continue to work with this client to help try to create a stable situation for her and her sons. The Society of St. Stephen is a group of people from the First United Methodist Church, Chapelwood United Methodist Church, and Christ Lutheran Church who are committed to providing emergency or temporary assistance to local people in need Scholarship Presentation May 6 th was such a blessed day for our congregation and our graduates. Our church presented the first ever Vergel and Anita Perry scholarships. Even better was that Vergel and Anita s daughter, Patricia Hatinger, was there to present the scholarships. Recipients were (pictured below left to right) Becca Moore (plans to attend Brazosport College with intent to transfer to Sam Houston State University), Lauren Aycock (plans to attend Texas A&M University), Bryson Wintjen (plans to attend Brazosport College with intent to transfer to Sam Houston State University) and Seung Jang (plans to attend Baylor University). These four students were selected because of their active roles in our youth group and church, and they will each receive $500 from the Perry Endowment fund to be used for tuition or fees. We are so grateful to the Perry family for leaving such an important and lasting legacy for our youth and our church. The flower committee is in need of small vases for their ministry! Following most Sunday worship services, the flower committee takes the altar flowers and divides them into smaller arrangements, which are then delivered to people who are in the hospital, are homebound, in a nursing home, or others who may need just a little extra TLC to brighten their day. If you have any vases to donate, please bring them by the church office. For more information on the flower committee here at FUMC, or if you would like to volunteer for this ministry, please contact Ethel Tracy or the church office.
